Today we had north of Corpus Christi and follow the coast until we come to be gorgeous little town of Palacios Texas. This fabulous seaside community has a lot to offer.

Good morning Dennis 🤗 The tree with the beautiful blossoms is a Crepe Myrtle. 🙂 unusual to see one with lilac blossoms as they are usually pink, white or red in color.

The large yellow/tan large building on the left at 8:33 use to be owned by my great grandparents and they used it as a consignment/antique store and before that was a pharmacy to my knowledge. My great grandmother actually lost her life crossing the street right there and was hit by a ace hardware delivery truck right there after leaving their owed bed and breakfast that was next door to the bank in town across the street basically. fun fact their bed and breakfast had a bedroom with a window that looked right into the banks break-room. They owned a beautiful house right on the strip of land where you can see the bay and have a beautiful grassy park before the bay. Grew up visiting there, a lot and have many found memories of fishing there, going to the local skatepark, and meeting locals of the town my grandparents knew.
Great memories! I wonder if there's any photos or information in the Aransas county history center. Old black-and-white photos or something along those lines. It wouldn't surprise me. Thanks for checking out the video.

The "bandstand" you referred to is part of the Texas Baptist Encampment. The tree is a crepe myrtle.

My Dad whom passed in the 80's, had the Montgomey catalog store in that building. He absolutely loved every moment with his friends and acquaintances!. About that 1911? built building. My great grandfather and his brother built a few buildings and homes around to museum was in the building after the catalog store closed. Bet will be interesting to discover. Thanks! The Luther is a comfortable place to stay. Shirley Temple stayed there before. Also the point has great food. Especially the shrimp wraps and egg rolls. Great video

The band stand with all the seating is inside a area called The Baptist Encampment and not really a public area.

Rita Hayworth stayed in the penthouse while she was attending a party at the Original Pavilion on the bay, then you could drive out and turn around. here Spectacular the first pavilion during the 1920"s . Happy Hunting!
When Stephen king wrote the story that became Shawshank redemption, Rita Hayworth's name was in the title. Very cool.

I do want to go back into that building Ralph. I'll schedule my next trip for when that museum is open so we can get inside. It's about an hour and 20 minutes away from Rockport so not too bad. Hope you're having yourself a very good day my friend

Do they still have the shrimp farm in Palacios? In the 1990's there was a shrimp shortage , can't remember why, but that was a solution, grow em like corn.

@@dennis78382 I took some freight to the first one. It was off hwy 35 East of town about 1 mile. A new building with no windows. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago. I used to see the DEA blimp in Matagorda every day and sometimes delivered to the
South Texas Nuclear plant. Plenty of work down 35. There was a place in Lane City that made pom poms for sports events. A lot of interesting people and businesses along the coast.

Really enjoyed this one. Looks like a wholesome escape from big city life. I'm planning a trip down the Texas coast this summer. I just cant decide how far northeast to start. There is a lot to see and explore along this stretch of Texas. As a woodworker and lover of all things classic...I'll have to check out or stay at that hotel. Yes it was Jamie. That was the reason for the hotel as the railroad came in new business man came in at the hotel active as temporary housing. I was given a brochure from the Luther hotel and it had an interesting history

It's a neat little town with a cool history.
Enjoyed the excursion to Palacious, TX and love the different styles of buildings. Awesome beach front area. From what I see Palacious looks to be a very clean town and that says a lot about a place. Nice Hotel for a much needed get a way. Just to let you know had a wonderful lightening show last night and some thunder to go with it. Enjoyed and thanks.

I was on your heels. I went through palacios this morning. Is a beautiful little town. I took my dog for a walk behind the community center and talked to a lady that once lived in a town west of my home town.
I talked to quite a few very nice people in that town. I checked with five different people who live there to make sure I was pronouncing the town right. Next time email me ahead of time and I'll just meet you somewhere. I always feel bad when people say they were looking for me but I'm rarely in one spot.

I don't feel bad buddy I just don't like the idea of people wasting their time running around looking for me. I've had people drive 300 miles and I guess they are disappointed that I wasn't at the one spot where I look for dolphins. 😂

I absolutely enjoyed it. If you get a chance watch the videos about Indianola and Matagorda Bay. It shows you free places to camp for two weeks

The Croix de Guerre is the Military Cross and pronounced something like "craw de gare" It is a very high honor from France.
That little town must have really had it going on to have all that, and to be so tidy still.

I went here in 2018' went to the museum - closed. Went to eat in local restaurant - closed. Local park - closed. Nightclub - closed. Stopped at a local convenience store - temporary closed. Should have called this town "closed" and not the pandemic one plus year before.
