  • What can we do to make agriculture more resilient to climate change? In the D5 long-term trial at the @ACCIMMYT main station we can see how conservation agriculture helps production in periods of drought. The key is in the crop residues, if they are all removed, the soil degrades, loses organic matter and with it its structure, infiltration and the ability to store water. If we incorporate waste we have greater infiltration and storage. If we leave the residue as a cover or mulch, we have even better results, because the layer of residue will also prevent evaporation and keep the soil cooler, giving even better results. This video shows the effects of corn treatments in trial D5, which has been in operation for more than 30 years.
