As thorough and meticulous the previous owner was, I'd check thru as much documentation as I could locate in the property. Because I'd bet there is plans, layout, schematics to that house, etc in there somewhere.
Use an induction tone generator and wand pick-up to locate your power lines. Check with your local power company. Even though this is a private power system, they usually will help you. There is also a local cable contractor that has the same equipment that may do it for a fee.
I started watching this when you bought the place stumbled onto it whoever owned it put an insane amount of work into it absolutely wonderful and I see now why things are being cleared out my dad who was born and raised in the UB tells me all the time never to let trees grow by the camp because they come down in a Storm
Why do people not see all the trees that are still there? It is always better to keep huge trees away from your house. I have seen houses ruined by trees that fall on houses during bad storms. Had them fall on a house we were renting before. Thankfully we were not hurt. I think it is looking better all the time. When it is clear and grass is growing it will be beautiful. 😊👍
What an amazing job you done with the cottage, it is going to be wonderful when you are done, sorry about the power cable, I wish you and your family a great week 😊👍🌹
The snow sure melted away fast...or at least in TH-cam time...lol. Can't wait to see fishing on the lake videos! You will get to teach your son how to fish ~ big fun. 😎🥰
Have not watch the channel for probably a year just life has gotten in the way but the cottage is looking good. I have loved that place since you found it and it so cool to see it being taken care of. I bet your Fords never had a flat! Just sayin I will always be a ford Truck guy sometimes Chevy has 1/2 ton. So I had to get in my shot. Love the cottage
It's all coming together and really looking great but I understand your pain finding the wires where they shouldn't be...deal with kinda the same thing here with water lines..they crisscross the property and when searching for leaks I find all sorts of lines going all directions but like you I eventually get sorted out.. appreciate you sharing your day with us and as always enjoy your content.😊🚜🛻🛠️🔧👍😎😇
I would LOVE to see a Lighthouse 🙂I am amazed at the amount of work you have been doing there, much more open than last video I saw. The cable was very unfortunate but suppose that is a difficulty with places where you are not sure about previous works. Fixed now and another step forward. It will look fantastic once everything has settled down. I would be doing the same as you, given the equipment you have. Clearing most stuff away that could fall on any of the buildings. Opening it up to help dry it out and then grassing or smaller plantings. Benefitting from the more open views as well.
Just a thought on the odd direction on the wire going to the the genny building. Is it possible that the genny shed may have been moved or relocated from another position more in the direction where the wire was headed. Nice progress on the yard clearing. Great to hear that you will keep the property and take up residence. Have a nice day. Tom at the NB-NS border.
Hello! Watching from Russia. You still have no grass as we do. Good luck with power lines in the future! definitely not a pleasant thing to repare all that.
I have always believed that things in life happen for a reason which one has to figure out the answer, good or bad. Thankfully u found those wires to prevent future problems!
WoW what a cluster fluk! been absent lately....can't believe how much you had to remove from around the cabin...:( was amazing in the beginning for sure! but I understand what you had to do :(
I'm trying not to laugh 😂 I feel your pain. We run into the same crap. You never know where sh*t is buried. Ask the homeowner they think it's over here. When you need to find the utilities the whole yard torn up. When you don't need to find it, is that a root..... **** it's not a root 🤬
Have you thought about solar and wind combo for power? There's certainly some cool new wind turbine options. Perhaps they will be available when you do decide what you're going to go with.
When there are stumps that are too close to trees you don't want to damage if you rip them out, do you ever just use a stump grinder and grind them a little bit below ground level ?
Is it as fun as it looks to dig up stumps with that excavator ? I like the way you shake those massive stumps like they were a ragdoll to shake the dirt off.
Ah! So sorry. Maybe you can ask the people who had the cottage before what are the white wires for.. Have a great day. Do not work so hard. Marie from Denver Colorado USA.
7:37 The first 8 minutes has me laughing because damn isn't that life haha 2 steps forward and a shove back and then I find out you play hockey!!!!That's Awesome! What Position?
Hopefully the electrician can trace all the cables for you then you can see what goes where and if need be relocate into a better more logical format. Make sure you have it drawn up in some form so that if repairs or digging up you know where is clear.
Here's a dumb question. When your cabin was built, did the original owners have to have the electrical connections inspected ? If they did would there still be a plan somewhere with the city or county or whoever it is that inspected ? It might be worth checking into just so nothing else gets dug up accidentally.
Hum. When you bought this place a long time ago it was going to be a rental. Now you're going to live here? I check in from time to time to see if you have that house sitting on a bald knob?😆
Do you have Miss dig that's what they call it in the United States they come out for free and it will locate all your power lines underground for free.
Don't worry about digging through the power lines. It could have been worse. What if it was a customer's house instead of your own ? 😯 See, now it's not so bad after all. 😉
Because I don’t know what else is down there at this point and I don’t want to ripping more up. There will be a planter there so there will not be anymore digging around there. Also it is marked with red warning tape 10 inches above the line.
@@workplaytv I also would have dig 2.5 feet deep, lay some gravel, then conduit, then gavel & sand then warning mesh and tape, and dirt over it. It just makes it so much easier to pull through new power cables in some years, when you will connect your future roof solar panels to the future batteries in the gen shed.... 😎
@@k-ptenflam5508 that would include an entire new trench over to the sheds. At that time it will be done that way. For a “band aid” fix to get us back fired up this did the trick
I saw one of your videos and subscribed. Then unsubscribed. It's your place but I can't stand seeing all the trees that supply shade cut down. Why would you want sun beating down on your house? I don't understand..... All for the worry of "oh, it may fall on the house". What about the "this place is so sturdily built" statements you made? Can't watch.
The amount of clear felling in this is now ridiculous. Way way way beyond necessary. Every episode is now more tree removal. I used to be a fire fighter and this place is going up if there is a fire. But it hasnt done. There is no need for stump removal. This has all just developed into boys with toys using them because they can.
Lol oh my. Everyone with common sense knows that’s clearing away from Your house helps in the case of a fire. No need to continue to watch and wait till the outcome. Thanks for watching while you did
Replying to the reply to mine. As a past Canadian and Australian firefighter the answer is no. The amount of heat that travels ahead of a fire would take your place out even if you hadnt dried all the area around it. What goes up in a bushfire is often not caused by flames. Your other property is open enough it seems from film to have a go a defending it but what was selective pruning has now gotten to clear felling. The more you expose a log cabin to sun and heat the less heat in the air is needed in a bushfire for the whole thing to explode. Visions evolve, yes but if you go back to your first dozen episodes you will see that things have changed radically. Its no longer a remote log cabin in the bush. I hope you are planning on hauling in many tons of topsoil for all that grass
@@pipwood2172 absolutely we will be hauling in a lot of top soil. The idea is at the cabin you will have a treed/open grass area with a nice breeze and If you want deep forest you walk out the driveway 2 minutes and enjoy the other 30 acres
The generator shed wasn't always where it was now it was on that little road years ago and then they moved it wish I would have saw this video before you started digging
Cut those big trees by the house. It’s not worth taking the chance on trees crashing down in a storm. You have many thousands of trees left on that property even after you clear for power to come in. I want to live there it’s so beautiful and peaceful.
Papa G would have loved to see this much progress on the cottage, not so long ago you said happy birthday to him for me and i never got to show him the comment :(

Why don't contractors make a map of the underground work and have it on file for future homeowners?
When I do work for people I do. Us things like certain trees, house corners for measurements
When there are stumps that are too close to trees you don't want to damage if you rip them out, do you ever just use a stump grinder and grind them a little bit below ground level ?
Yup
He probably ran those wires all together each one a single wire to supply the power of running one wire with the three wires in it

Why would you dig without knowing where power lines are?
Does your septic system have a lift station ? ... That could explain the power lines
Nope
I understand thinking trees.
I wonder which lake, it is now?
Any chance you could contact former owner and ask about the buried cables ?
Maybe you should leave that post as high as it is and put a sign on the top that says:
BEWARE
of underground lines

You do nice work.
Your property is looking great... In My Very Humble Opinion.... clearing out some of those trees is a great idea
Good Job

Off grid it would have nothing to do with nsp so no inspection
It’s good to know you can operate a track hoe. Cause there are operators and there are drivers. Nice property man. God Bless!
Doesn't electric have to be at least 24 inches below ground ???
If it’s getting inspected.
So how old is this place? that looks like at least a 60 year old tree.
Upper peninsula! Correction
Hey Tyson don't think you've shown us your new Ram yet .
Oh yeah there’s a video on it
Oh - you have been busy!
Direct buried cables with no diagram on what goes where. Nasty.
Hi there, get yourselves an Ecoflow generator 😊❤
What about a metal detector for locating your underground power lines etc.? Maybe save you some time and money.

At my offgrid cabin? Should I call the ghostbusters?
A stump grinder would minimize the carnage on your property.
Most if the stumps need to come out anyway because of what we have planned. I need to take off the top moss later
Would a stump grinder work better vs digging out the stumps? Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
For some of them for sure

The forest is the other 34 acres . This is water front so I want to see it. Also it’s for safety.
