It's nice to find a natural hair vlog hosted by someone with short/medium length hair. There are so many blogs run by long haired women telling us short haired girls how to gain length, so it's refreshing to see someone what we can do with out hair at our current length.
After my akward stage my mom told me she didn't like being seen with me😔. She also told me that i wasn't a spring chicken and it won't grow back..lol. She also said NO MAN WANTS A WOMAN WITH A TINY LITTLE AFRO. Now 6 years later she likes to take credit for my long beautiful natural hair. Thanks mom..it was an awkward stage indeed.😆
I'm glad you did your OWN thing. I know how that feels... MY mother has not stopped harrassing yet....and I've been natural since 2009!!!! She tells me I need a perm or a flat iron..
The pantyhose idea goes way back to 2008 youtube when I went natural the first time. They made the BEST puffs I swear. To prevent sliding in the back I just stuck a bobby pin in it. A relaxer and many years later I had forgotten all about the pantyhose until I cut my hair off and went natural again in 2017. So I went to my local Rite Aid and picked up a few knee highs in these SUPER DUSTY plastic ball containers at the bottom shelf...lol. Literally NO ONE has use for those little knee highs anymore BUT us naturals! Meanwhile, I'm waiting for my bangs to get longer so they can hang down like yours! Anywhoo great tips lovely lady!
that's a good question! lol i used to use hidden bobby pins inserted from front to back to keep my bangs down when i was at the awkward stage! thank God my hair has grown (it grows slower at the front)
Thanks for this video! Medium length hair is a hair length not just a growth stage for me (and probably some other folks too). I really appreciate the tips since most videos are for longer or shorter natural hair.
Wow, never thought of the trick of using an elastic band before adding my decorative bands. I adjusted and tugged at those doggone things all day! Glad I tuned in today!
First!!! I love these quick and easy styles👍🏾. I'm in awkward stage and it can be a struggle at times. If my doesn't come out the way I wanted it to be, or just a complete mess, a frohawk is my go to style. I agree with you on having headbands, colorful clips and satin crunches, they can make a hairstyle look even better. When I pik out my hair(gently) into an afro I love to decorate it with accessories. And when all else fails I just wear a satin turban tied in a cute way💁🏾.
good tips. I loved the puff with the larger elastic. The small band made your hair look very short. I have a big head, so I cut the large band and just tie it. There's also the option to try a puff cuff. I've never tried the stocking. I may have to.
Great tips! There are longer and shorter length Goody headbands great for all stages of your puff to (hopefully) prevent too many headache days lol. Another thing I used to create my puffs during the awkward phase is the old school banana clips. I'd leave the bang out in front, and the rest of my hair I'd put in a banana clip up top. It makes your puff look less stingy if you have around 6 inches of length. Also, another thing I use for my frohawks / side frohawks are hair combs. Also very helpful if you have thick hair (the comb wont even show). All my life I had been putting them in wrong, and a TH-camr (Maybe Natural Me4c, can't remember) showed to insert them with the teeth going towards the edges, not toward the big hair part (I hope that made sense lol). I still love my side frohawks as my twistouts age through the week :)
Thank you!! I'm so glad someone knows the truth about awkward stage. If you can stretch your hair over your chin and stretch your hair over your shoulders then your hair is not in an awkward stage. Awkward stage is at least 4 to 5 inches from your scalp without a shape up from the hair stylist . Anything past that point is good.
Some of the best videos I've watched! So many just show how they do things, but I love that you explain why you're doing what you're doing! My hair is definitely in this awkward stage, these styles will really help! Thanks for being awesome.😎👍🏾👍🏾
I am in that awkward stage now. I've been wearing headbands but they always moved up or forward due to the thickness of my hair. Adding the elastic headband first is such a great idea to hold the hair in place. Tfs!
i'm in the awkward growth stages so most times i'm wearing scarves alot headbands are wigs and sometimes i like to style my hair on the side when its in a curly fro loved the videos and i can't wait for more :D
Thanks for thinking of us ladies whose hair is now in the awkward stage. I am glad now getting length but my TWA style is passed that. I will try these styles and see what happens. Please keep sharing the knowledge. Especially if you are trying not to cut the hair cause it's finally growing now my hair. Yay!!
Thank you so much! This video was a life saver! My hair looking a hot ass mess and I didn't know what to do with it. I am receiving more compliments with my hair in it's natural state then I ever did with weave! I can't believe it.
Denine Jones oh you're so very welcome. I too was like how are women wearing these headbands? My hair is literally pushing it off. Haha the band trick is the perfect way to do it.
Cute! In in-tween hair also. I usually try not to put those bobby pins in my mouth cause they come from China and cheap so I'm suspicious of chemicals they spray to coat... like lead maybe, I don't know, but not taking chances
Hell Mrs. jennell, I almost forgot about those styles, and I laughed when you did the stocking thing, cause I began doing it when I was in my 4th yrs natural. I did the 2nd big chop a year ago this month, so I am back at that funny stage, but managing it. Thanks for lol you bring to us naturals, stay encouraged and be blessed...oh and little Ms. Elle is doing he thang. She growing up beautifully. Prayers for Gods continued protection over you and your family
BlakIzBeautyful I just seen that first word, of my sentences, i am apoligizing i do not curse, and that what goes to show you to spell check prior to sending words... again i am sorry
♡♡♡Best video eva!!!!!!!!♡♡♡ I'm 1 1/2 year natural with 4-bcz hair (in the front, middle and back respectively), lol. My natural hair is 6+ inches long. I'm still transitioning and doing mini chops on the top; the back and sides are all natural. The video is a life saver because all I knew to do is a ponytail and box braida this whole time. You made it look so easy because it is, but I just didn't know it.
Hello, you're hair is beautiful. Very healthy looking. My question is, when you get your hair shaped up, what state is it in i.e. Blown out, twisted out or wet? ~thanks
Thanks so much for this video!! I transitioned for a year and just BC on 7/11 so these styles can work for me! As simple as the puff may seem I didn't think I could could do it because of length as well as technique ..but Thanks to this vid I will be trying it! 😊
great video! so I’ve been natural for 3 years now...and I’m ready to go see a natural hair stylist....but girl.....can we please do a video on these natural hair salons and their prices!!! what are your thoughts and opinion? is it worth it? (ps. i know you have your stylist)
When I am getting ready for work I always do a quick style like you done in the video. I will be 3 years natural Jan 15, 2017. I am so excited. I can say I am just a little shorter than you. When I stretch my front it stops at my chin.
quenquen I love fluffy twist outs too!!! I used SheaMoisture sacha inchi smoothie. I get my Headbands are from forever21, Charlotte Russe, h&M, target.
YES, TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!!! I'm 10 months into my journey, very green. As to how to take care of it. Instead of going to the store buying stuff to put into my hair looking for Growth. I'm a Beginner Please Help Me!!!!

Joy Jenkins It takes a while for our hair to grow down and not out. Be patient.
Wow that's horrible
I'm glad you did your OWN thing. I know how that feels... MY mother has not stopped harrassing yet....and I've been natural since 2009!!!! She tells me I need a perm or a flat iron..
Old school mothers. My mother didn't like natural hair either. They just believed your beauty is in long flowing straight hair. It's an old mindset.
My mom cut her hair with me and supported me I'm so sorry to hear that

How do u make your bang hang down? mine always sticking up?
michelle smith twist it down to the front of your face.
Thanks for responding

Silvia Dwomoh that's what I did today it works amazing thanks love bug
The stocking/knee high has been my go to for years since I have a lot of hair & head. TFS.
Rene B it's a great option!

😍 Pass it on to someone else in need.
thanks for the teaching

my hair is that length but I don't consider it the awkward stage. I'm finally close to a year and a half

Thanks. I'm in this stage right now and trying hard not to cut again!
I needed this. I am in a love/hate relationship with my 'fro because it is in the awkward stage. Love the panty hose idea.

I'm almost 2yrs going natural and all your videos are very helpful. Thanks and God Bless.
so glad you did this video. I'm at the weirdest stage of growth right now. I usually big chop at this point, but this video was extremely helpful 👌
What about us 5 head ladies? LOL.
SweetLady095 women with big forebeads are just as beautiful showing their foreheads. Embrace it, and flaunt it!

What? I'm just saying be careful that's it. It's not about germs, it's about products that come out of China
lol! That seems just a bit extra but, you gotta do what works for you :-)
Thanks love I wore the fro-hawk today and love the style on my twa thanks for sharing again 💖💖
Youre so very welcome!
super cute and versatile styles!
Your hair is super gorge!😍
Loved the stocking the best - the most controlled puff and cutest outcome. Will try because bands do give me a headache.

Great styles. I'm still trying to get the hang of the faux hawk and I've been natural for awhile.
Thank You I've been trying to find something for this head of mine
Your hair looks healthy and beautiful!
Julia Akinmade Thank you
Oh, that looks fabulous! When my hair grows out, I'm going to try it. Thanks for the tutorial.
I love this video!! 😀 Tomorrow is my first day of class and now I have some styles to choose from.
LOVING THE MAKEUP!!! What did you use?
I'm gonna get a stylist and get some shape. I've been scared but I will get a consult before they cut. TFS
♡♡♡Best video eva!!!!!!!!♡♡♡
I'm 1 1/2 year natural with 4-bcz hair (in the front, middle and back respectively), lol.

I love all your videos. However, can you bring back, "Your B. L. A. C. K. is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l"? I friggin miss that song.
Victoria B Haha! That's an old jam huh. Ummmm I'll see if I still have that song on my computer and I'll use it in a few videos.
So practical thank you for sharing these tips. Sometimes you just need a quick fix so you can go about your day and be cute.
Hello, you're hair is beautiful. Very healthy looking. My question is, when you get your hair shaped up, what state is it in i.e. Blown out, twisted out or wet? ~thanks
Yeassss!! I needed this!! My hair is in that awkward stage too & I'm so tempted to cut it back to a TWA but I won't yet. I need to shape mine
Getting your hair cut into a shape you love is worth it!
Thanks so much for this video!! I transitioned for a year and just BC on 7/11 so these styles can work for me! As simple as the puff may seem I didn't think I could could do it because of length as well as technique ..but Thanks to this vid I will be trying it! 😊
reblackbeauty I'm so happy to help you out.
Super cute Jenell! I have longer hair, but you definitely are an inspiration as far as your lifestyle, hair journey and more😄
1perle awwww Thank you so much love 😊🤓

Oh really, thats great!
When I am getting ready for work I always do a quick style like you done in the video. I will be 3 years natural Jan 15, 2017. I am so excited. I can say I am just a little shorter than you. When I stretch my front it stops at my chin.
Pretty Clarinet me too three years. .twinning
Pretty Clarinet happy almost nappiversary. I will be 7 yrs next year.
Congrats!
Gorgeous hair ❤️❤️❤️
My twist outs never last because I’m always sweating. Any suggestions? Redoing it daily is to much work.
Where can I buy the elastic band?
Lynn E All beauty supply store has it
Nice. I'd say your hair is medium length
Okie. I'll go with that. From where my hair is now, where would it need to be to be "long"?
I don't even know. I've seen people with longer hair than you say it's medium. I'm like, so I must be bald then. Lol
Toshi J Armpit length and longer is long hair . Shoulder to collarbone is medium length hair .
Queen LeLe ah. Thanks
Super video! This is very helpful. Thank you!
my hair still too short for puff but will try pinning sides
Your hair is soooo pretty
your hair looks fierce hunty
Ok loved the video. I am not in the awkward stage but i just love watching your hair videos.
4A Natural Biker Chic From Georgia 💋

quenquen I love fluffy twist outs too!!! I used SheaMoisture sacha inchi smoothie. I get my Headbands are from forever21, Charlotte Russe, h&M, target.
Hi. Your hair looks like it has a lot of moisture and shine. What do you use to get it like that?
I twisted my hair with the SheaMoisture Sacha Inchi Smoothie and i used jamaican black castor oil
Nice tutorial
Nice! Thanks so much. 👍🏾
where can I purchase that black hair band?
im in that awkward stage. and didnt even know it..
☺️
hi would you mind telling me your hair type? im just looking for a youtuber with similar hair type to get tips from i just big chopped 3 mnths ago
Thanks Jenell. Can you do one for akward stage wear to work while protecting your ends?
Kendra Charles i find it awkward for buns and styles to protect my ends except for 2 flat twists...
I do two flat twists as well side part or middle part all the time and so I'm getting a bit tired of that style.
Kendra Charles YES!
Thanks :D
Thank you 😊
Thanks so much for this video I was pulling my hair so much when I do my bun n I think dat cuts my front lines
Lets leave the pulling alone for a while, we want our edges to grow in strong.
Great video, thanks!
What product did you use to twist your hair?
YES, TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!!!

I cut my band and bobby pin instead of double wrapping it because it will hurt!! Your band was really tight
IT WAS BRAIN SQUEEZING TIGHT!
very cute
Jenell, you forgot your roll tuck and pin!
Ive not forgotten! But thats not an awkward stage style, your hair needs to be a bit longer for them.

I hate these looks!! They look good on other girls, but on me I look "un-kept" like I woke up and didn't bother combing my hair!! Dammmmit
your hair looks fierce hunty
