How anyone could put a thumbs down on this is unimaginable? Haha! Keaggy used to live across from where my wife was a nanny in Costa Mesa. His kids would come over and play. I would sometimes slip a cassette tape into their hands and say, "hey, let your dad hear this" [I was young and dumb]. Haha. Eventually, I did get to open for Phil Keaggy at Vanguard University [SCC at the time] when his manager forgot to tell him the start time of his concert. So there I was with a date [and I had paid admission] and the activities director came and asked if I would lead worship since Keaggy was late! I did - for a fee - since I was on a date, after all. Anyway, amazing musician and brother in the Lord.

Phil Keaggy was one of the Christian Artist who brought the guitar into the forefront of worship. Controversy arose within Christian circles regarding music, worship, and how it was to be presented in the church. However, the Church at the time was going through revival among it's youth (myself included) where by Hippies from the 1960's were being saved in what is now know as the Charismatic Revival 1968-78. Phil Keaggy was one of those Artists who listened to the Holy Spirit and helped plow the hardened ground, and planting the seeds for others to harvest and follow. I thank God for his Gifting's, and how this album impacted my life when I was a new Christian. Thanks for posting this album.

I listened to a bad tape of this and one of Keith Green's albums every night from January 1978 to 1983. It was what the Holy Spirit was using to purge all of the negative self talk and doubt that resulted from years of living in an abusive situation. It was one of those "flower children" who's joy of salvation radiated from under his Hippie human shell that reached out with love to a guy that had been labeled "untouchable" and believed it himself. Maranatha... Come Lord Jesus. There is really nothing left according to prophesy but the coming itself. Come Lord... "If there is time for one more good revival, use me too." Ken

Phil was the first artist that approached me back on the main stage at the very first Cornerstone music Festival, after talking to him I felt much more comfortable. It was Ironic that the first christian album i had ever bought was Town to Town by Phil, in late 1982 as I made my decision to follow Christ in March of that year. While serving in the US Army station on the DMZ in 1988, this album and Love broke thru, and Town to Town as well as many other albums sustained me in that live tense cease fire treaty, combat zone!
My last day on the DMZ received a very nice blessing from Christ as I was walking out of the mess hall at Worrier Base to see a tour bus pull in with my friend Darrel Mansfield and his band, Darrel also has two of his boys with him. What a blessing for this man of Christ to have of all musician's and a friend, to show up right as I was about to medi-vaced back to the States. Later that summer ran into Darrel and the band back at Cornerstone. So keep the faith and trust in Christ our Lord, as you never know when He sends you unexpected blessing, even in dark places! Christ's love for us is never ending, and He is faithful to restor your soul, for Juses is the Christ, the Son of the living God!!!!

As I stated to Mr. Cook, I had never heard this album by him. I have to say this is taking me to Heaven in an earth sort of way. I'm hearing so much of the early music. This month has been a revival with the recent Asbury University phenomenon, and with the 3rd season of The Chosen and the movie, "Jesus Revolution". There is a documentary of "Love Song" called, "First Love". Oh those harmonies! And the musical virtuoso is incredible! How did I not know of these guys? I guess, being saved in '87 may have precluded me from all this, and there was no TH-cam to find it. I was always looking for spiritual Christian music. I never found this in bookstores. Glad I am hearing it now.
Perfect timing for all this to culminate into a world revival, as I was feeling the beginnings of it for a year before Asbury, and now I know God was telling me it is coming. I knew it had to happen b4 the trib, bc how could we go through all that without being recharged, or in some cases charged for the first time, first. WE would need that strength to endure. Thank God for His mercy and His grace to follow His commandments, and firstly, to love each other.

I remember attending a "Paul Clark and Friends" concert with my two older brothers around 1974 in Kalamazoo, Phil Keaggy was one of the "friends". Such fond memories. I've had the opportunity to see about 3 more of his shows. I love his music, and really love the God glorifying lyrics...and even "spirit", or perhaps I should say "Spirit" in his beautiful instrumental works. FYI, this album cover looks about as worn as mine does (which i still own). Thanks for sharing this.

I began to appreciate Phil Keaggy with this album in 1973. Prior to this, I enjoyed Elvis Presley's Gospel Music, Andrae Crouch and the Disciples, Love Song (These in Louisville, Kentucky seemed to be more prominent than even Larry Norman), the Archers were also becoming known, Dallas Holm. Keaggy helped me to fall in love with great guitar music, including this spectacular accoustic style.

in the mid 1970's my parents bought our family this album and larry norman, and randy stonehill and a few more on 8 track for our VW bug!...anyway their intent was that my brother and I would know Jesus...I walked away for 20 years and came back to Jesus in 2002 and it is 2024 and I am still walking with Lord...I bought all the old albums on CD and this is still one of my favorites...it is more pure than some of the other early Christian albums which were tinged with a little rebellion that went along with the times, but not this one...kind of pure good lyrics...and it is okay to air guitar at few points!

My Dad played this for me when I was a baby, but I didn't find out until a few years ago, because I heard this and said, "Woah! I recognize that!" I have literally had these songs ingrained in me my whole life without knowing it! Jesus is amazing, and God really does have a plan for everything. I have been humming King of the Jews for YEARS without knowing how I learned it or what the words were! It was stuck in my heart and mind and I am so happy I now know what that song in my soul has been. This is probably the most beautiful music I have ever heard because the words of worship are so powerful and lovely!

    • @truthlikevelcro5689
      @truthlikevelcro5689 ปีที่แล้ว

What a wonderful testimony! And the fact that you "knew" these songs does prove that it is essential to play positive music to your fetus and baby after it is born.
I was saved in '87, and I had heard some of Phil's later music when he had made the turn to more jazz-influenced music. I was not as crazy about it as this, but you can't blame such a virtuoso for turning that corner, as it would seem logical given his skill as a guitarist. He would have pushed that skill to the limit. But I still love this more. First time I am hearing it. This had to be a time when he was still honeymooning.
I hope this recent Asbury revival will continue further West and throughout the world. I have been sensing revival starting to happen before that, and now with "The Chosen's" 3rd season and the movie "Jesus Revolution,"; it's just right in lockstep with everything else. God is such a masterful Master, haha.

If it helps, the young Keaggy couple had a difficult experience with the Christian community that they were living in at the very time of this recording. It was stifling, pietistic, authoritarian, stinking "Discipleship" paradigm was all the rage at the time, as if the New Testament of the period of the Advent was the correct model for all times. Yet this beautiful album of songs survived - nay, was cultivated in - that very circumstance. Our response to circumstance is what the Holy Spirit will use for our advancement and understanding. That’s my short list also! Except I’d add Phil Driscoll. I WOULD add John Michael Talbot, however I believe his music, though beautiful, has a deceptive Roman Catholic foundation. Satan can appear as an angel of light. That’s the category I place JMT in. I therefore refuse to listen to his music anymore.

This album brought me through some rough times over the years. The purity and freshness are incredibly presented by Phil. The best of all the Jesus music from that era. The guitar work stands that test of time.

Although I like this album far more than his later ones, given his talent, you couldn't blame a virtuoso for making the logical turn to jazz. I was saved in '87, and I had never heard this. I had heard _Malcolm and Alwyn; Barry McGuire, Randy Stonehill, 2nd Chapter of Acts,_ all the 'regulars,' but the vocals and musical talent in _"Love Song"_ is "the" best I've ever heard, now hearing it all in 2023, as far as vocals *_AND_* music talent and spirituality.

@@truthlikevelcro5689 I'm a bit confused. When did Keaggy turn to Jazz? Maybe a here and there touch but even he doesn't consider himself a good jazz musician. Take a listen to "Illumination" and "All At Once" Hardly jazz. Being an avid Keaggy fan, I think that his phenomenal talent has far outlasted most from the Jesus Music forerunners and even recognition in the secular world ( which doesn't move him) as one of the finest guitar players ever. My first time seeing him in concert was the evening that he joined the Love Song band. Keaggy has over 50 albums! Amazing! The Two studio Love Song Albums from the 70's are fantastic. Their third from the 90's was a valiant effort... but the re-works did not have the same voltage. One original on that album was excellent. Don't think there is a Christian Musician who holds a candle to him on any instrument. He is in a different stratosphere... yet still one of the most humble of guys.

@@truthlikevelcro5689 Keaggy is hardly a Jazz Musician. There's no doubt in my mind that he is the most prolific of the Jesus Music musicians. Over 50 albums later. Try "Illumination" or "All At Once". Hardly Jazz. But... What A Day is born from his Jesus Revolution Experience on the East Coast where he was part of Love In. Yes, Love Song was great... but they dissolved in the mid 70's. Keaggy keeps on keeping on.

      3bay,
t0rrent Phil Keaggy Discography 1974-2012 (69 Releases) and pick the first box for this album (mp3s). If I were a Christian musician that had made this album and someone bought it already, I wouldn't mind if they got a copy of it after wearing their copy out. My copy would also be worn and I don't have a record player working, let alone a cassette player any more.
This album alone, beats most of most of what is labelled as Christian the last 20 years.
