  • One of the best moments of this concert. Really great lyrical theme, with some nice pauses, grooves, and tempo changes that really makes for a roller-coaster ride of an experience. Some of the transitions here were really strong and well done as well. Amazing stuff. Also, Brian May is king!

Fantastic reaction! Thank you! Love this - one of Freddie's many masterpieces. Love that all of the guys are highlighted. Love John's solo and seeing him join Freddie on the mike! Can't wait for next song from this concert!

Yes I agree, one of their best performances
Deaky on the bass is incredible

This is such a substantial song and excellent performance. The drums and bass on this song are incredible and of course Brian is outstanding in his ability to hold back and then kick it in high gear and shreds it. Freddie's voice is perfection. This is so tight for a live performance, it knocks me back every time. This song/performance is the total package and your reaction is fantastic. Thank you.

One of my favorite live performances by Queen!! I think John Deacon really shines here!! And, it was Freddie who encouraged John to sing the bridge with him. I’ve often wondered what it was like to share the mic with Freddie!! 🎤 ❤️
IMO the lyrics reference Freddie’s experiences at Boarding School … 🤔

Debra, definitely about the boarding school...I saw a letter that Freddie wrote to his parents from school...It would break your heart...what kind of people were his parents...sending a little boy...not much more that a baby off like that to a strange place...I believe that he spent 8 years there😢

Just found your channel and will watch while you are reacting to Queen. There is no doubt the four of them are multi talented and have loved everything about this band from their beginning. There will never be another Freddie. Can't believe it's 30 years since his passing. All of them so brilliant with their chosen instrument but all can play other instruments too. I was lucky enough to see them in concert and are known as a band that was always better live. Their timing is so on que. I am still proud to wear my Queen T-shirt. I always felt John was underrated as his bass riffs were fantastic.

John is just cute naturally… and his hair is especially gorgeous in this one. Fantastic bassist, often cited as an inspiration for later bassists. An absolute musical genius just like his bandmates!

I believe Freddie started to write this even before Queen. I think this refers to things that happened in boarding school. What do others think?

It seems to be about confession, but the people we confess to are liars & sinners too.
    All 4 are amazing here.

Great reaction! I had a feeling you would enjoy this one! This is really a song about rejection. It is one of Queen's most depressing songs, but you will not realize it from the music. The song begins with someone confessing their sins to a priest. The song is about someone looking for a place to belong within society, the first place he tries, is the church. He is rejected by the church. Then he really tries to belong or find a type of belonging within with his family, "Mama, I am gonna be your slave". But he is rejected by his family as well. At the end he realizes, "they bring you down before you begin" and "you have to be dead before they let you in'. In my personal opinion this is perhaps the one song Freddie wrote about his sexuality. A lot of people think Bohemian Rhapsody is about his sexuality, I disagree, I think Bohemian Rhapsody is just about being an entertainer and the music industry. Of course the song could also just be about his struggles as a poor musician. He was slightly older then the rest of the guys in Queen, he only started singing at the age of 23 (he played piano since the age of 7). His family did not support the idea that he wanted to become a musician, they have paid a lot of money for him to go to boarding school, and expensive types of schools. There was a lot of people who thought he was becoming a bit too old, and that he was wasting his time, he is 28 at the time of this concert. They wanted something else from him.
A lot of Freddie's songs are sometimes written like direct dialogue which makes it very difficult for people to figure out the meanings of the songs. This song is from Queen's first album, Freddie wrote it before he even joined Queen, he was part of a blues band at the time called Wreckage. He very likely wrote this song on the guitar. Freddie mostly wrote on the piano, but there are a few songs that he wrote on the guitar. He learned to play the guitar because he loved Jimi Hendrix, he went to see Jimi Hendrix more then 40 times.
The song of course also has a very progressive rock type of feeling.
What is also great about the song, and it is something that you touched on, is that everyone has a time to shine. Roger does some great drumming, Brian plays a great solo and even John Deacon had a bass solo.
