Youngs running ability must've been incredibly annoying to opponents. Obviously he was a very good passer but him being able to avoid a free rusher and still scramble for a first downs killed defenses.
Couple of things to note: 1) This 49ers secondary was STACKED with Eric Davis, Deion Sanders, Merton Hanks, and Tim McDonald! Tootsie Rolls and the Chicken Dance were abundant! 2) Living through the 49ers dynasty in the Bay Area feels similar to the GS Warriors championship runs with a ton of general, casual fans around the country. 3) Why is George Sefiert wearing a heavy-ass Starter jacket in 76 degree Miami weather? 4) You can see the heavy influence of slants and boot-action plays in the Shanahan family with Mike Shanahan as the 49ers OC in 94 all the way to his son's, Kyle, offense here in SF in 2018. Roger Craig and Ricky Watters were the precursors to Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Dion Lewis, Todd Gurley, and Melvin Gordon just to name a few.

Great game! Good friend coached the "O" line that year. Mike Solari now with the Seahawks. One bad note in that game was Dan Dierdorf always interrupting
He's in the HOF and considered an All-Time great. So I don't think his career is underrated. Was he as good as Montana, probably not, but just by a hair. If he's underrated at all it's because he was only a starter on this one Super Bowl team. Had the 1990 Niners held on against the Giants, Young would have started that game.
Did you notice how every QB the 49ers plugged in did well? Bono, Grbac. How did Young look in TB? He was great but he was also playing on one of the greatest teams ever and it was a team that was already rolling when he took over as starter. He didn’t have to take a 4-12 or 2-14 team and win. I’m not trying to trash Young, he was great but he’s in the damn HOF lol. He’s not “underrated” at all.
Ricky Watters was a great RB. He doesn't get the credit he deserves. Seven seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing in only 9 + seasons. 78 rushing TD's and 10,643 career rushing yards in only 144 games. He also has 4,248 yards receiving and 13 receiving TD's. There are guys in the HOF that don't have numbers even close to that. 5 time pro bowl selection and Super Bowl Champion. Ricky deserves way more credit than he gets!
I’ll never forget this Super Bowl victory by the 49ers. They scored 49 points matching their team name. I hope they win today against the Kansas City Chiefs
My poor Chargers.. 😂 Their one and only Super Bowl appearance had to be against THIS 49ers team! I was only 7 years old and I cried, but then I became a big Steve Young fan after this.
I'm a hardcore niner fan since 88, but wow that throw from Humphries @ 4:54 rolling to his non throwing side & slinging the ball from his hip was an absolute gem, his receiver couldn't hold on however.
The crazy thing is,for 7 straight years the Bills or the 49er's played in the Super Bowl but never faced each other in the Super Bowl. It probably would've been a great game going by that in 1992,the Bills beat the 49er's in the first ever no punt game and Jim Kelly's Houston Gamblers beat Steve Youngs (have to check to see what the name of the team was) USFL team in a good game too.
LOL Davis with the INT in the end zone, while never controlling the ball... Fast forward about 15 years and Megatron catches a touchdown and leaves the ball as he stands up... No catch.
They got blown out midseason at home, against the 49ers. Why would they have any more of a chance in a neutral setting when the Niners had peaked? My friends and I knew...by the 2nd quarter, we were playing an NBA Live 95 tournament on the Sega Genesis lol
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot The Chargers wanted to do to the 49er's what the Giants did to the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. They were a powerful running team with Natron Means and wanted to eat up clock. Their defense couldn't stop the 49er's offense early. They were playing from behind the whole game.
@@highmeadows2030 Naw... '72 Dolphins were definitely the best in terms how good they were in their time but if these 2 teams played each other the 49'ers would dominate. Can you imagine what S.Young had to feel coming in after a QB like Joe Montana? A legend? Man that had to wear on your nerves. Following other great players say on defense, or a reciever is tough but a QB? ALL eyes on you. EVERY throw and move scrutinized. Young did it and was awesome in his own right. Another 49ers Legendary QB. Not many teams have had back to back legends. Montana-Young, Favre-Rodgers. You gotta give the nod to the Niners though. How many Super Bowls? Yeesh. And yes I AM a Packers fan.
Great moment for Young. Now here's a bit of counterfactual history to think about: If the Chargers had faced the Cowboys I think it might've been a slightly different game though as we saw here I think the bright lights got in the Chargers' collective eyes. The thing is, the Chargers were better fitted to take on the Cowboys as their defense was better suited to key in on Emmitt Smith and their offense could move the ball against Dallas. At least it might've been more competitive.
SPTO The Steelers should have won the AFC championship so a Steelers 49ers Superbowl would have been better. The 49ers still would have blown them out though
The Chargers wanted to do to the 49er's what the Giants did to the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. They were a punishing rushing team and wanted to eat up clock. It's just their defense couldn't stop the 49er's early and that caused the Chargers to have to not be able to play to their strength offensively.
I was an 11 year old Chargers fan at the time and was so excited to finally watch my team play in the SB. I turned the game off a few minutes after the 3rd quarter...Still tough being a Chargers fan all these years later!

The editing cuts the clip before he says the score multiple times! Very frustrating, the score is an essential context to have when watching a football game
49ers/Chargers was the end of the era of Super blowouts. The NFC win streak still went on a few more years, but DAL/PIT and NE/GB never felt like total destructions.
People really need to recognize young as a top 10 Qb all time. In terms of pure talent I’d put him 6 or 7. Within a year of studying under Montana, he had It. He easily could have won 2 of the 3 chips they won while he was on the roster. They were just that good. He laid the blueprint for Aaron Rodgers. A guy who can get to the edge and make all the throws, while risking being a running threat. Young was just more fearless at getting extra yards, while Rodgers has the stronger arm. But Steve young was the first qb we saw that was truly elite as a runner and passer.
Many think the Charger have a real shot at reaching the Super Bowl this year. So at least the city of San Diego can look forward to that..................................oh wait.
@Nigga Sex What u say about the Rams? 3-3 and the 49ers are sitting pretty at 5-0 (10/19/29). Plus our defense chewed up the rams O-Line and spit them out like Pork in a Muslim's mouth

@@lcrossmk8563 not to the matter of fact that the afc conference from 1984 to 1996 was utterly shit! xD
I'm pretty confident that this 1994 49ers team could beat any team in the history of the NFL.
jon Q I agree
Ahah the 85 bears don't like this comment!!!😜

Especially if they would have kept Montana.
Steve Young could sling it around a corner. What a beautiful throw he had.
10 Pro Bowlers Holy Shit.
Harbaugh's team had 9.
No Superbowl win for him.
Video game create a team football type of s*#t!
Just glad steelers lost. HARBAUGH should have in 95
Young looks super-charged when he drops back to pass, reads the play and then steps into his throw. He does it super fast and doesnt allow the charges to close in on him and get a sack. Excellent skills on the part of Steve Young.
NFL Vault with another quality video that really makes me love them! You guys/gals are the best!
except whoever cut it is a dumbshit. Never giving the score and cutting away in key moments. I bet some college intern did it who probably doesn't even like football.
I love that Shanahan and Young wanted and planned to to throw for 8 TD's in this game....
The better Shanahan won in Miami... little Shanny choked there.
@@jjmst55 cringe
Is no one gonna talk about how perfect it is that the final score for the 49ers was 49!! I mean come on!! That's incredible!
and the same numbers........the 94' season
Youngs running ability must've been incredibly annoying to opponents.
Obviously he was a very good passer but him being able to avoid a free rusher and still scramble for a first downs killed defenses.
The way he gets separation from linebackers.....not even fair. And he was the best passer in the league as well. Not fair at all.
Couple of things to note:
1) This 49ers secondary was STACKED with Eric Davis, Deion Sanders, Merton Hanks, and Tim McDonald!
Don't forget the best DT tandem ever, Dana Stubblefield and Bryant Young!
@@73challenger5031 Yes! Drafted in back to back years

This Super Bowl is my favorite from my childhood. I was 10yrs old. Watched it around older cousins. Grilled out. A blast. The best looking 49er uniforms to me in this Super Bowl.
Steve Young was so good. Tight spiral rocket passes w/precision, lightning quick first step and rapid acceleration. Dude was an all-time great.
Top 5 QB SuperBowl TD Passes:
1. Steve Young - 6
2. Joe Montana - 5
3. Not Even Close
4. Who Cares
5. ???
Young may have more TD's and Brady may have more rings (in the protected QB era), but neither was as good as Joe when the game was on the line. Montana always rose to the challenge and that's why he is the Ultimate GOAT!

@@CaptnCrunch247 me too..lol niners whooping ass all over the in that super bowl.
This Chargers team was cursed. Look at all the players who've tragically lost their lives since then.
I remember watching this as a senior in high school. I was a HUGE Steve Young fan. And when he hit Rice with that 50-ish yarder in the first half, I knew it was over. Best team I've ever seen... And I'm a Pat's fan.
I had just started playing football as a 13/14 year old and this was the first superbowl I ever watched. Seeing the domination of the 49ers made me life long fan. To this day, this team in the 94/95 season is my favorite team of all time. Still a die hard 49ers fan and I live in Georgia
I was eight years old that year, and this was my first full season watching the niners. THAT team made me a hardcore fan to this day. This is also my favorite niner team of all the niner teams I watched. I had no idea how spoiled we were!
You caught the last of greatness.
Young flinged the ball seemingly effortlessly with precision and speed. Incredible.
This has become my favorite channel on TH-cam. Keep these videos coming!
One of the greatest passers of all time passing to possibly the greatest receiver of all time
Still my all-time favorite QB, so underrated. Bonus being a solid human being as well
This 95 49ers team was so stacked. I grew up a 49ers fan and this was one of the best teams.
THIS 49ERS TEAM WAS AND STILL IS THE DEADLIEST TEAM EVER TO PLAY IN A SUPERBOWL. THEY BASICALLY HAD AN ALLSTAR TEAM. GO NINERS!
I think the 1989 team who spanked John Elway was even better
my favorite roster of all time GO NINERS!!!
"10 49ers will be in the pro bowl next week"
Was there live in the robbie stadium at miami back 1995 ,priceless moments and memories🇪🇸👍👍😉🏈
They made that iconic stadium a joke it looks silly now
Watching Jerry almost brings me to tears. Taylor was no slouch, either.
Taylor caught the winning touchdown in Superbowl against Bengals also.
Great game! Good friend coached the "O" line that year. Mike Solari now with the Seahawks. One bad note in that game was Dan Dierdorf always interrupting
"NINERS 4 LIFE",QUEST FOR SIX.

A boy by the name of Tom Brady was definitely watching this game. What a performance proud to be a niner fan, its coach Kyle turn to shine !!!
Brady could not play in this era of the NFL it was far more physical than it is right now.QBs took hits and kept it moving!!!!!
The days of being 5-0 in the Super Bowl. Now we’re 0-3 since 2013.
If not for Young, the 49ers would have won at least 1 more SB.
It pains my soul how underrated Steve Young is
No doubt. When he wasn't injured he was incredible. 92-94 & 98 were his best years
Amen
He's in the Hall of fame, for fucks sake. Who is underrating him?
Ricky Watters was a great RB. He doesn't get the credit he deserves. Seven seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing in only 9 + seasons. 78 rushing TD's and 10,643 career rushing yards in only 144 games. He also has 4,248 yards receiving and 13 receiving TD's. There are guys in the HOF that don't have numbers even close to that. 5 time pro bowl selection and Super Bowl Champion. Ricky deserves way more credit than he gets!
Imagine having Dan Fouts, Drew Brees and Philip Rivers as your quarterbacks, but Stan Humphries is the guy that took you to your only Super Bowl.
Fr smh #bolts⚡️
Until Elway's Helicopter, the NFC had an aura of invincibility in the Super Bowl. This was arguably the apex of that NFC mystique.
2:35
Steve Young blocking for Rice.
he deserved that Superbowl MVP.
I’ll never forget this Super Bowl victory by the 49ers. They scored 49 points matching their team name. I hope they win today against the Kansas City Chiefs
Rip
They didn’t 🤣🤣
My poor Chargers.. 😂 Their one and only Super Bowl appearance had to be against THIS 49ers team! I was only 7 years old and I cried, but then I became a big Steve Young fan after this.
That 49'er offense was a thing of beauty.
I'm a hardcore niner fan since 88, but wow that throw from Humphries @ 4:54 rolling to his non throwing side & slinging the ball from his hip was an absolute gem, his receiver couldn't hold on however.
At least it wasn't the Bills in the Super Bowl again...
Daniel Crane not even the conference championship
Apparently the Bills weren't even in the playoffs that year.
3:16 Steve's QB cadence was so powerful, I've never heard another QB with such a deep, powerful cadence like him.
I was so proud of my Niners that year. I was in high school talking shit after that win. Niner Empire 4 life.
From Joe Montana right handed to Steve young the transition was remarkable on the receivers part
LOL Davis with the INT in the end zone, while never controlling the ball...
Fast forward about 15 years and Megatron catches a touchdown and leaves the ball as he stands up... No catch.
They need to scrap that stupid ass rule. A catch is a catch it doesn't need to be scientifically broken down.
Everything is scrutinized now. Drawback of technology.
There are no Left Handed QBs in NFL atm!!!!
Here after tonight's heartbreak. This will always be their last Super Bowl win. They ain't never winning another one unfortunately.
young had such a beautiful throwing motion. it was art.
Chargers clearly had no chance to win against the 49ers.
I watched the game back then. Then had a chance, but poor tackling and drop passes did them in.
They got blown out midseason at home, against the 49ers. Why would they have any more of a chance in a neutral setting when the Niners had peaked? My friends and I knew...by the 2nd quarter, we were playing an NBA Live 95 tournament on the Sega Genesis lol
True but they could have made it closer, that int in the end zone by Davis was an under throw, should have been a touchdown
Godzilla vs bambi basically
Steve Young played this Super Bowl almost perfect
They would've beaten the '72 Dolphins on this day. There's no way Steve Young was losing this game.
Sorry but the 72 dolphins would of remain undefeated regardless of what you think
@@highmeadows2030 Naw... '72 Dolphins were definitely the best in terms how good they were in their time but if these 2 teams played each other the 49'ers would dominate. NFL defenses in 1972 were all about stopping the run and the 49'ers could pass every play also the o-line changed much bigger dudes took over so they'd have a very hard time stopping the run or getting pressure overall it would be a physical mismatch

Super Bowl 54 Will Be Play @ Hard Rock Stadium In Miami Gardens, FL
Can you imagine what S.Young had to feel coming in after a QB like Joe Montana? A legend? Man that had to wear on your nerves. Following other great players say on defense, or a reciever is tough but a QB? ALL eyes on you. EVERY throw and move scrutinized. Young did it and was awesome in his own right. Another 49ers Legendary QB. Not many teams have had back to back legends. Montana-Young, Favre-Rodgers. You gotta give the nod to the Niners though. How many Super Bowls? Yeesh. And yes I AM a Packers fan.
The 49ers were absolute pleasure to watch the well-oiled machine with so many weapons. Not the least of these the great one Jerry Rice
It would've been SLIGHTLY more competitive, but still a convincing Cowboys win.
SPTO The Steelers should have won the AFC championship so a Steelers 49ers Superbowl would have been better. The 49ers still would have blown them out though
@@911Gameover absolutely right, that was a big upset when SD beat Pittsburgh
The Chargers wanted to do to the 49er's what the Giants did to the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. They were a punishing rushing team and wanted to eat up clock. It's just their defense couldn't stop the 49er's early and that caused the Chargers to have to not be able to play to their strength offensively.

Steve young one of the greatest quarterback who ever played in the NFL. Being a rams fan I hate the damm 49's with a passion but watching steve young play the game is pure art. I have much respect for that man, not in a million years I thought that would happen.
The best football team put together of all times the San Francisco 49ers
I don't know about that... remember the team with Fred Dean?

From 1992 through 1994, the 'real' Super Bowl was actually the NFC Championship Game.
Gopher Baroque Super Bowl XXVIII,the Bills were leading the Cowboys 13-6 and were only down by 7 going into the 4th qtr before a 4th down td run by Emmett put the game away. Thurman Thomas doesn't fumble on the 3rd play of the 2nd half(he had over 80 total yards up to point, you know he would've continued to get the ball),the Bills continue to wear down the Dallas defense and score more points and they win that Super Bowl.
