Thanks for posting that very first one, " NBC News Night Report" - I was a child when I saw that but could still remember that opening animation! Great catch!
Dang... Just about all the legends we watched over the years are now retired. Ron Magers: May 25th, 2016, Linda Yu: November 23rd, 2016, Warner Saunders: May 22nd, 2009, Mark Suppelsa: December 8th 2017.... Jerry Taft is almost at that step too!! :(
RIP to Floyd Kalber, John Coleman, Warner Saunders, Darrian Chapman, and Max Robinson. Ron Magers, Linda Yu, Mark Suppelsa, Jerry Taft, Jim Tillman are retired. Carol Marin, Marion Brooks, Brant Miller, Art Norman, Allison Rosati, and Rob Stafford is still at the station.
I personally remember when NBC 4 (aka WRC-TV) had a similar opening in the late 1960s to "News 4 Washington". This, of course, was when Neil Boggs and the late Glenn Rinker were reading the news. When the Roman numerals stopped at VI, that meant it was time for the six o'clock report; when the Roman numerals stopped at XI, it was the eleven o'clock report. The animated clock opening was interesting.
I know this was posted 5 years ago, and the creator may never look at this, but, my GOD, people, half of the clips are at volume 1 and half at volume 100. It is impossible to manage the volume control to hear them all. Put a little effort into equalizing your volume levels, people!
Carol Marin is probably the most famous local newscaster due to her walking out when Jerry Springer got the commentary portion at the end of a newscast.
There are also some opens from the late '70s that aren't included in this compilation using Michael Randall's "NewsCenter Theme." I'm not entirely sure if the 1949 open is a legitimate one since I read somewhere that the clip it was from was used as a demo reel for the network execs in New York.
I'm back to ID a few more V/Os: Del Clark: 0:05-0:24 Jim Hill (not the longtime L.A. sportscaster): 0:54-1:05 Ed Grennan: 12:33-12:36 It seems as if NBC was trying to institute a standard look across its O&Os during the mid-'90s. The news opens from one station could have elements of opens on another. In particular, WMAQ's 1994-95 open (from 6:29-6:41) has the ending animation from WNBC's open and logo animation from KCNC's, not to mention the similar logos (and that open wasn't transcribed in the captioning).
The NBC Tower is located at 455 Cityfront Plaza and Studio 5 is located at 401 North Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago.

Oh my!! It's been 17 years since Darrien Chapman passed away?? Then Darryl Hawks in 2011?? A lot happen at 5 in that era. I miss both those gentlemen.
RIP to Floyd Kalber, John Coleman, Warner Saunders, Darrian Chapman, and Max Robinson.
Ron Magers, Linda Yu, Mark Suppelsa, Jerry Taft, Jim Tillman are retired.

12:21-12:30 I'm still remembering this 10:00 newscast opening since 2013 before they changed the studio in 2017

Prior to Working at WMAQ, Max Robinson Worked on ABC's WORLD NEWS TONIGHT
Yes, he was.
At 1:00 the late Max Robinson as an anchor. He anchored a long time in DC.
Hmm, the yellow 5 at the bottom appears to be in a different font than the white 5 in the logo at 10:08
Jerry Taft as an anchorman, wow! I'm so used of him being a meteorologist.
I notice this O&O, unlike other O&O stations, didn’t receive a personalized version of a certain 2008/9-2012 graphics package.
02:46, 03:26, two of my faves.
From WMAQ Chicago this is NBC 5 news at 5
WMAQ-TV, Chicago! This is the Channel 5 News at 5:00!

Ron Magers also walked out due to the Jerry Springer controversy, to end up at WLS-TV (ABC-7) until his retirement.
mark now works on rival WGN-TV in chicago and rob mayers at the rival WLS ABC 7
Mark is now retired as of Friday December 8th, 2017.
WMAQ, the NBC affiliate in Chicago IL, is owned and operated by NBCUniversal. WMAQ is the sister station to Telemundo affiliate WSNS in Chicago.
Formerly of WNBC-TV in NYC, now WMAQ-TV in Chicago.
+Robert FunderburkeJr At one time it was WNBQ before it was changed to WMAQ. They changed call letters in 1968 I believe.
ebf1957 1964
Did they use the NBC grey-tan set during the N-logo years of the 70s?
That _NBC News Night Report_ open was most likely used during the mid- to late '60s; that particular recording was from the Blizzard of 1967.
+iamnomad101 If I recall that opening was used for the 5 and 6 reports.
10:31, the colors on the peacock logo, on the right, are mixed up. LOL. 💛🧡❤️💙💚💜😄😄😄

I liked the NBC Tower theme but not what they use today.
Does any one have an opening from the short amount of time that WMAQ used the Battery news music package. It should have been from 1999-2000.
