I got a Boston Terrier 3 years ago. I put in more training with him than any other dog I have had, and I'm pleased with the results. Here is a couple tips that you may know or may not know, or just a refresher. these are a couple small things I'm glad I did. If you don't wanna read this or don't relate it's all good. I'm just throwing stuff out there I learned as I just went through what you are about to the last few years. This is going to be a long read if you feel it's useful at all, if not I will take no offense.
    1. I used a separate command "Here" when playing fetch, because "Come" is very specific and "Come" can save your dogs life. "Here" means bring the ball or Frisbee or whatever we are playing with to me it's like "come" but, it's not "Come". I never use "Come" when we are playing. Also from a very early age I rewarded "Bruce" only when he handed the toy to me in my hand if he dropped it on the ground I made him pick it up and then rewarded him. This is invaluable if you plan on throwing toys and having him bring them to you, and he just doesn't drop toys either unless they are in my hand. Now I don't have to bend over as far and pick up toys off the ground. It also helps him not just drop the toy even if he gets distracted he will stand there distracted but not drop the toy until he's putting it in my hand.
    2. Recall "Come". "Come" is a very specific thing, and from a puppy I made sure not to just say it here and there, and once he was old enough about 5 to 6 months old I would say it once, and then I would go get him if he blew me off and walk him to where I told him to come to. For us "Come" again, is very specific. I say "COME" and I raise my voice higher pitch as I say it, which gets his attention and I snap my finger and make a fist at my waist. He has to come touch my fist with his nose, and sit, and I grab his collar, that is "Come" any part of that not done is not complete. I made sure any time I said "Come" the whole ritual took place after he was old enough to follow through and only say it once. This is invaluable with recall as if you just accept the dog being in your general area the dog doesn't know exactly where he needs to be for recall. That is why people say "Come" and sometimes the dog thinks he is close enough for it to count. I can give a come command when Bruce is less then a foot from me, and he will come touch my fist and sit and I grab his collar. You don't want to follow through until they are old enough to understand that you are walking them back to where you said come the first time if they blow you off, so about 6 to 8 months you can get more stern with it, and they can understand the follow through. You really only say "Come" once, then you go get him, and when you get him if he's blowing me off I use a stiff arm when I grab his collar so he can feel I'm not happy about it, but I always follow through. Eventually once he knows I'm going to follow through they will just "Come" every time becaue I'm going to get him no matter what. I also rarely treat for come after 8 Months. He doesn't do it for a treat he's gotta do it because he's got to do it. Before 6-8 months I will not be so stern. Also you can use a 50ft leash to test "Come" at parks and whatnot they will think he's off the leash, and it's a good intermediary step.
    3. I do a hand command with every voice command, Bruce responds better to hand signals then voice, but for every command there is a hand signal, and voice. Again I'm glad I did this, as when Bruce is far away I can have him do commands just with hand signals. From across the yard I can have him Sit, Down, Roll over, and army crawl to me, without saying a word, it's kinda cool.
    4. This one is huge Bell Training. We have a bell on the door, and he learned this at about 3 months old in 10 minutes and it took a couple days to get him to understand 100 percent, he is the easiest dog I've had to train. But we have a bell on the door when he "Touchs" it it means he wants to go outside. this is invaluable and allows him to be able to communicate with us he needs to go potty, or go look at squirrels or whatever. You can hang up the bell now and overtime you let him out ding it for him so he hears it, teach him the touch command later, and then make him touch the bell then put him out, bring him in, tell him to touch the bell put him out, bring him back in repeat. They can learn this fast.
If you read all this congrats hopefully you got something maybe relatable or useful or just something to think about. I know I got a ton of ideas when I got Bruce even though I had had 5 other dogs before him 2 pits 1 rott, two Buggs, a Doxen. Anyway good luck with your dog, Malinois are awesome.
Training stuff Bruce knows. some of it is for fun, some of it is useful/practical
Catch (when I throw a toy or treat or Frisbee means catch it out the air)
    Sit
    Down
    Stay
    Bed/Place
    Break
    Up Spin
    dance
    Pray
    Army Crawl
    Cross (Walking between my legs)
Find it (I did some scent work with him just for fun, finding treats, or people)
"Check your butt" we have to wipe his butt when he dumps so he knows to stand between our legs so we can wipe it lol
    Heel
    Bow
Roll over (Both Direction depending on which way I move my hand)
    Play dead "Bang Bang"
    Off
Paws up put your front pawns on something, this is useful for bath time as I can "Paws Up" on the toilet seat and dry him off
UP UP UP jump up on something
Out (Stop whatever you are doing and remove yourself )
    Outside (Go Outside)
    Inside
    Drop
    Leave it
Get it (Fetch go get whatever I throw)
Here (Bring Back whatever you went and got or have in your mouth and place it in my hand)
up (Bruce will stand on his hind legs to give my whatever toy we are playing with so I don't have to bend over I do a "Here" when he gets there I say "Up" he stands up to hand it to me, again this was very easy because from a puppy I trained him to hand me stuff not drop it on the ground, and he already know Paws up, and "Up UP Up")

@@wandersinwilderness Ya I would have taught him more tricks but I ran out of stuff. He learned them really easily he would just pick up tricks like within 10 minutes so I just kept teaching him.

Sometimes they chew on those beds because they are trying to bed down in them, and they paw at it almost to dig a whole before they spin around and plop down. You gotta be careful with dog beds with foam in them though. My rottweiler ate a couch and the foam lodged in his intestine, and he was puking up water and food, andything he ate or drank would come right back up, and we had to get him emergency surgery, had we waited a day longer he would have died. So when your dog chews up foam or really anything rope whatever, if he starts puking, water and food and can't keep anything down bring him in. I put a sheet over dog beds and a blnket that way when they paw at it to burrow they will be able to fluff up the blanket and sheet and not be as likely to chew the bed. Just a tip.
