    Sam the man you helped me so much sine I got this macular issue like 6 months ago. You helped me feel normal again. I foun you on the Iris vision site doing the demo video. I got the new Iris Vision 2.0. Waitng for the casting function to be ready. Its amazing. Now I just got this Magnilink Zp 13 inch, with your advice from another video on ebay, practically brand new for 4700. I saved a ton like you said. This thing is so so amazing. Thank you Sam for helping me live my best low vision life, lol

    Hi. I am trying to decide between Magnalink Zip and the Cloverbook Plus. Can you compare and rate their cameras’ distance and Mirror modes for me? I am most concerned with putting on makeup and watching TV. Thanks! Love your reviews-

    Hey Sam, is this a new version? I think I remember seeing this a few years ago just want to know if there is a difference from n and now. ☺️ Great video by the way!

      I believe the zip is the newest version of the magna link. There is also the magnalink one which is a lower quality version. I believe it has a much better camera as well as the ability to connect it to a computer and use their software for OCR.

    this looks pretty good but I need it bigger and not as portable, I need it larger than 22" and I need it to be a lot cheaper than 3100 since no one gives me anything for free including the Commission for the Blind. When I initially lost my vision & was trying to get a CCTV and they refused, I asked what I would do if I had children & needed to help them with homework or review it or read report cards etc. They said it "sucked to be me". They also told me my husband should read me newspapers & magazines - mine didn't even pay for my food so they really weren't much help (neither the agency or the husband)

    I notice you very often leave off the price, I'm wondering why? I know there is a thing of sticker shock on these things, but really that could be useful to someone considering options. I do like the light weight and portability. The one I have is hella heavy and I find that frustrating. I wonder if they have a larger monitor option and you didn't mention if you could connect it to something bigger?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, the number one comment I get on most of these videos is that the device is too expensive. So I started omitting the price. I always say, if somebody wants more information they should check out the website. That includes pricing as well. As you said, sticker shock. I would rather people learn about the device and what it can do instead of hearing the price and immediately shutting down thinking they could never afford it. That’s also the reason I made the video telling people about other options for getting these kinds of devices. And to answer your other question, the one in the video is a 13 inch model but they also have a 17 inch. Also you can connect it via HDMI to an external monitor. I mention that when I was going through the menu talking about one of the options letting you switch from one screen to another.

      @@theblindlife Thanks, yeah that's what I figured. Apparently I am too poor to pay attention! ;) I got my CCTV (an optilec) from my state commission for the blind. Tho I already had Telesensory I found at Goodwill, but that has a CRT. I'm 55 and remember CLEARLY when VisualTeks starting coming into classrooms in Jr. High. Inverse is AWESOME for people with albinism. I loved being the techie girl who could put them together too. Nerd girls unite!

    Definitely liking the devices you're showing lately. Lot of things I have not seen before.
    I am hopefully getting an upgrade to my 1994 Aladdin. Got to say though the thing has been great. Might be old but it works each and every time I turn it on.
    Great video once again Sam from the blind life.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL, I had an Aladdin back in the early 90s! We have a couple in the office now and those things are workhorses. They will never die!

      @@theblindlife I agree it is an awesome CCTV however the screen is only in black and white which is okay for me as I always do black with white lettering. But the screen is just so small it's hard for me to blow things up to the size I need them to be. And the screen resolution doesn't make it any easier either.
      But I have a friend I'm going to give this one to when I upgrade mine. It will work for another 10 years until he gives it to somebody else when he upgrades. Like you said they will never die. LOL

    Oh wow, mere seconds between deciding a person wants to read a letter or what have you, to having it magnified on screen! Great demo, would love to hear your thoughts on these items in terms of whether there is glare bleeding out from the camera light that would make this device a no go for someone with macular degeneration. Once my low vision specialist at C N I B saw my diagnoses, she ruled out several assistive devices for me based on the amount of glare they had from the light hitting the reading platform. Not at all a criticsm of your review, as you are always excellent and thorough, well spoken, well filmed, well edited et cetera.
    I cdo wish L V I had an M S R P for this device listed. That would help the consumer out knowing how many firstborn they should be prepared to offer up, yet still give their reps the leeway to offer quotations based on whatever they base them on.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have macular did generation and anytime I’ve experienced player with a device like this, I simply readjust the reading material to illuminate the glare. Or perhaps I will adjust the lighting to illuminate the glare. Turn off the lighting from the device and use an external light source. Other than perhaps using a very old device which has a poor resolution camera, I’ve never not been able to read something.

    Put ur thumb under it and see if it will focus - do it on the one u use at home as well. I just blew 2500 on a rehan ireat product that's a piece of SHIT. When u tilt it forward it covers the camera & it's lit from BEHIND not above. If u've ever used an old CCTV that was an actual tv it was MUCH better. I have an old spectrum 20/20 - if anyone is in Houston & can repair it - contact me. Tv is ok but it won't focus anymore, belt is broken and refracting lenses are out of alignment
