Recievers catching balls wide open everytime. Getting shredded like cheese by the outside stretch! First game after watching this video (taking notes with my #2) 4 First half interceptions! 2 user picks. Swatting down passes left and right. He's just saying time outs, but keep practicing, I usually can get the spy and then man up slot wrs then either shade left or right then that's about all I I have time for
Looking at what formation they are using are very important, if he has 3 WRs out and he is constantly no huddling it and man isn’t working, I’ll zone it, if he keeps running I’ll blitz . also user control is very important I’ll usually cover the best WR out there cause the computer keeps getting beat or using a safety helps a lot to.
Isn't that what it's meant to do? The defense is aligned in a "base" way to disguise the actual zones they're covering. So yeah I guess it depend son what you're running, some defensive shells are going to be more distorted than others. I'm gonna experiment a bit
Bo J. To a certain degree yes but the DB playing the cloud on the left side of the field shouldn’t be on the right. When you manually base align they base align correctly. When you experiment you’ll more than likely notice what I’m talking about.
Rocky Moore I’ve never in my life played with auto flip on. I’m not new or a beginner to Madden I jus support all Eric’s videos lol. Still aligns incorrectly. Guess I’lol just manually base align until they fix.
Yea especially if the ball is tipped in the air and my defensive backs have a chance of getting the pick and still drop it. Shit happens multiple times per game....
The difference between Quarters and Palms is who is responsible for #2 to the Flats QUARTERS = OLB/SS has #2 to the Flats PALMS = CB has #2 to the flats Not sure if the designers of the game know this but check it out. Also in Quarters if #2 is not Vertical (deep route) he should rob the post/curl/dig of #1 Some coaches have the FS or High Safety if you will rob #1 in both Coverages when #2 is not Vertical. The weakness in both Coverages is the deep out, comeback by #1 Also!! Palms and Quarters are not something you want to run against Trips Sets I would bet money that in Madden if you call Palms or Quarters it will be a full field coverage. In the same way that I naturally understand various formations and systems in real football (soccer), I don't in American Football. Because I didn't grow up watching it. What I'm looking for is a 'start to...now', explanation of defensive strategies. Starting from the fundamentals, and building up to how the 49ers use the 9 wide. (I know the terms, but I don't understand the deepness). If I can get the same for Offence as well that would be great.. :)
Chris I understand how hard it is to understand and start out with American football. But you should definitely start by getting a basic understanding of the covers. Curl clouds are meant to cover short passes stuff like that, just the basics. Trust me, from personal experience it’s easier to learn the basics of the game of football before you learn the controls

I'm from the UK and know nothing about American football I just love watching massive tackles and long throws that why I bought the game I'm trash but I love the gamwb
Good tutorial for beginners. I haven't played 20 yet, and I'm aware some things have changed but you can get away w/ 4-3, 3-4, 46 etc even with 3+ wideouts on the field of your in a zone and disguse it with base align. That may have changed though considering the linebackers aren't superhuman jumpers anymore. The main thing I tell ppl when I'm trying to teach them is to figure out what they are trying to do, find the hard counter(s), and try to notice which sets they come out in to accomplish what they are trying to do and let them make the mistakes. Most ppl aren't going to be able to make the adjustments necessary because they are so used to things working that when they don't, they don't have backup plans.

Hey, something I started toying around with: I took a page out of Dennis Allen's playbook and started dropping my DT into the LB's coverage and blitzing the LB. As long as you user the DT, it works pretty well. Especially online because the other player typically gets confused and has no clue what's going on. (And neither does his OL. 😂) Just something I thought I'd throw out there for you to try.
Shut out and blew out a Baltimore team who, of course, ONLY runs with Lamar Jackson all game. Used your tips and they really worked! Especially the QB contain, I kept sacking him for big losses. User controlling the safeties was a lot easier too, I kept swatting or picking anything he tried throwing. All with my Detroit Lions 🦁 Good looks, you got a new subscriber!
Also, get your left hand comfortable with using the left stick “should kinda glide” I found it extremely frustrating when I was hitting that thing hard “pause” lol. You almost want it to be loose fluid. It works on defense as well with controlling your guy.

u can play hard flats in cover 2. u just have to play your corners 10 yards off....especially on the wide side of the field if you press them, 20 yard gain easy
They’ve got to patch the block shed for corners. I mean it’s ridiculous in the run game that they can’t get off blocks. The run game in general needs to be toned down a tad.
Reading a offense or defense is tough unless madden is your life and your putting countless hours in... Practice! Learn the D pad and adjustments at line of scrimmage. I just started playing again after a very long layoff lol “kids” but long story short, thank you for these tips!
Eric, why cant I move my players before the snap? I can't walk them down the the LOS. They have to be in a full sprint to move. Have you experienced this?
The game is so animation dependent that the possession catch is op. If they do a possession catch depending on the animation it is an automatic catch no matter how covered it is
Can you do a video on how to get more sacks with the defensive lineman because when I play people, they sack me so quickly and when I play defense I can’t get any sacks so can you do a video on like adjustments to do with the defensive lineman to get more sacks

I play some one who’s very conservative. Meaning he dumps for 3-4 yards down the field. I caught on your explanation of shaving down the defense. How exactly do I bring down the Defense to play aggressive on those dumps. Then once this guy is up by two he starts throwing the ball down the field.
Whenever I’m playing exhibition or franchise I feel as if the CPU fumbles too easily I don’t want to win a game like that, it doesn’t feel challenging enough to me when I’m already up by 2 or 3 touchdowns in the first half of the game.
Your defensive strategies are beast..but this question is for anybody...how the hell do you pick up fumbles? Ive ran over plenty of em some of em I could have run back smh
And remember folks These are just adjustments. Whether you have to adjust or not is all up to you reading the offense and determining what kind of offense they may be running. The defensive play starts it all. Just thought I might add thatz
I might as well keep going. I stink at Madden but I know how these coverages SHOULD operate in real life Cover 3 Match Cover 3 Mable Cover 3 Skate These are all Nick Saban coverages from a 1 high structure Match is ONLY played vs 2x2 formations. NOT TRIPS AND NOT formations with 2 RBs. In laymans terms what you are playing is Cover 1 and Cover 3 at the same time depending on the route combinations the offense is throwing at you. This coverages is often called Rip/Liz in Saban terminology Cover 3 Mable and Cover 3 Skate are Sabans Trips coverages. I wonder if Skinny and Stump will be in the game lol These are Zone Match Coverages not spot drop Against 2 RB Formations (21,22 personnel theres no need to run Mable, Skate, or Match... Just run regular cover 3. Its best against the run. If Cover 4 Drop is better against the run than Cover 3 against the run that means the game designers do not know football. Its all about math in the run game
Eric - thanks for another great vid! I need help with my Madden 20. On PS4 I use the Pats and like to use a MLB to man cover the TE on drags. I've highlighted the player to do the coverage, pushed R up for man coverage, then selected X for the TE. Once the play starts, the MLB stands there! He doesn't move at all! Is there a glitch in the game? No matter who I select to cover, my defender doesn't move. Any suggestions? Anyone else seen this?

I learn man zone with 2 deep usually works the best if you control one of the deep safety

DEs can drop well sometimes but most DTs struggle to move quickly from hash to hash let alone hash to sideline

Swear every time I use anything like dime or quarter I get beat for the first 😩. Not enough pressure
greezythumps go nickel ; fine and quarter spread the defense out and sub package your nickel to swap the LB for a safety

Cover 4 Palms and Quarters work really well in the Red Zone. Offenses tighten up in the red zone and the zone concepts with run fits work really well.

I feel u. There isnt a button to do it as far as i know :/ ur supposed to just pick it up when u run over it but they seem to miss it all the time.

Make sure you're not holding speed burst. It causes you to run by them. Take your time and stop where the ball is.

Cover 3 Match
Cover 3 Mable
Cover 3 Skate
These are all Nick Saban coverages from a 1 high structure
Match is ONLY played vs 2x2 formations. NOT TRIPS AND NOT formations with 2 RBs. In laymans terms what you are playing is Cover 1 and Cover 3 at the same time depending on the route combinations the offense is throwing at you. This coverages is often called Rip/Liz in Saban terminology
Cover 3 Mable and Cover 3 Skate are Sabans Trips coverages. I wonder if Skinny and Stump will be in the game lol
These are Zone Match Coverages not spot drop
Against 2 RB Formations (21,22 personnel theres no need to run Mable, Skate, or Match... Just run regular cover 3. Its best against the run. If Cover 4 Drop is better against the run than Cover 3 against the run that means the game designers do not know football. Its all about math in the run game

Eric - thanks for another great vid! I need help with my Madden 20. On PS4 I use the Pats and like to use a MLB to man cover the TE on drags. I've highlighted the player to do the coverage, pushed R up for man coverage, then selected X for the TE. Once the play starts, the MLB stands there! He doesn't move at all! Is there a glitch in the game? No matter who I select to cover, my defender doesn't move. Any suggestions? Anyone else seen this?
