Hey Arch, I have a Murray 5hp tecumseh alot like yours with the plastic kill key. One day it ran fine the next day wouldn't start. It had a very weak spark. You could feel it but not see it. I changed the coil but still no difference. Switched champion plug to NGK. Still No spark.
Any suggestions
Did you Gap the Coil .010 - 012? Remove the grounding wire from the coil. Where the key goes, remove the airbox too so you can see.Try That,,,good luck
@@TheNovaJohn i cleaned the bottom of
the coil and where the bolts go to the engine. I gapped it with a business card. I now have spark and it still wouldn't start.
I put antouch of gas behind the plug and tried with a shot of ether too.
@@johnnytugs1021 Sounds like a compression issue. I had one years ago with a stuck valve too. Do a compression test. At the very least, especially if you have electric start, pull the plug, put ya finger or thumb over the spark plug hole, when the engine is pulled over it will blow ya finger off.
