Pro tip about VFR cruise altitudes. Bellow 3000' AGL you are exempt from §91.159 VFR Cruising Altitude or Flight Level. So if your under 3000' AGL you can cruise at any altitude including flat thousands. Of course you have to act with best judgement since you're not leaving yourself a lot of options and you have a higher potential to conflict with other traffic at such a low altitude, but it's something to keep in mind should the need arise. Also, shout out to the Blue Line instructors and RDU controllers. Some of the coolest dudes and dudettes I've ever trained with! Also, highly recommend doing your check with Jay Nabors or Bernie Consol.
I know, right? That freakin' guy. Call me crazy but my favorite part of being a pilot is being up in the air. If I wanted solo time on the ground I'd stick to a Vespa.
Awesome video, congrats on your second XC solo. I also remember that feeling when you get to the point where you are comfortable enough in the cockpit where you can take a couple breaths and look around and soak it all in for just a bit. Also, make sure you sump after the fuel truck puts in fuel. I've learned that the hard way. Fuel trucks can have contaminants or water in them... It takes just a min or two and can save your life...
Nothing like building flight hours on the ground! Why is that guy even flying? If you have 40 mins to burn, that's a lot of pattern work and fun flying!
Good stuff, Patrick! Keep making flying vids. It’s so fun go along for the ride when someone is working through their ratings. I’m finally back in the after a looong hiatus and sharing the experience on my channel That Hippie Pilot. - Chris
Remember when pilots used to try to get “flight” time? The pilot who tries to pad his flight hours with unnecessary time taxiing around to meet a requirement, will likely eventually start fudging his log book. You’re only robbing yourself dude. The only time excessive taxi will provide any skill building benefit to a pilot is if you put a pilot out on the ramp in a 20-30 knot wind in a J3.
Outstanding video Patrick. I love the fact we can hear the engine. Most flight videos we hear only the voice. Did you mix camera audio? Also the color was really nice. Almost looks like you added a LUT in your edit. And most importantly, it was interesting content to this new student (at 63 yrs old).
Very nice work. Liked and subscribed. I was a NC National Guardsmen for 13 years before moving and PCSing to Maryland. Saw a lot of private flights fro RDU/KRDU. Looking to go through pilot training here and hopefully purchase my own plane in the next year. Do you find low wing to be a better plane than high? What do you use in your iPad for nav?
I did my second solo XC from KCRQ to KTOA and what sucks is my total cross country time is 4.8 hours and 5 hours is required so I'm 0.2 short so I have to do a whole other cross country just to make the 0.2 up.
Actually paid for the Bose and my entire flight training myself. No trust fund, just hard working. Try not to assume people’s financial situation from a YT video (:
@@PatrickMeehanco don't even give the haters the satisfaction of getting a response from you. Just a ridiculous comment. I enjoyed the video. Congrats.
@@PatrickMeehanco oh fasho! I need to get into aviation vids/photography too! Been wanting to, my flight asked me to handle their social media for them so I guess that’s a start.

Very impressed by your radio work, nice job!
Agreed. I am training out of an untowered airport and talking to a controller messes me up.
Well done Patrick! You Just Keep Elevating your game! Coach Hooper.
That pilot getting solo time by taxiing around isn't helping himself learn anything other than how to cut corners
I know, right? That freakin' guy. Call me crazy but my favorite part of being a pilot is being up in the air. If I wanted solo time on the ground I'd stick to a Vespa.
He wanted 5min of extra taxi time...
To say he should take off for that is the unreasonable position, and not inline with a safety conscious mindset.
What a fine plane, that 7PK.
Great flying Patrick

Cameron Goodwin Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a scary experience but good learning moment
Also to clarify, I did sump the tanks. The fuel truck was filling up the plane next to me :)
@@PatrickMeehanco Ahh, that explains it! Your radio work is excellent for a student pilot, keep it up! and keep up the videos, I enjoy them.
Brought back memories! I got my pilot's license in May of 1991 and had to divert into KISO due to thunderstorms in the vicinity. Good luck!

That’s what I was thinking. No way I’m spending $150/hr to taxi.

It’s so fun to make while flying to! I’ll check out your channel
Thank you for sharing this flight, very helpful to improve my aeronautical english (french vfr pilot here).
Cool, I did by instrument rating in a week at KJNX. You did absolutely awesome for a second solo !! Nice radio work !!
That’s awesome! Just did my first solo at KEHO
Nice! Congrats!
Great job and you explained things well. The video was well done.
Awesome job, I can't wait to get to that point.
What a beautiful day it was damn the sky looks fake!!
Wow your atc seem so much friendly than mine lol. Nice job
God job Bro, you're clearly on top of things!
Good job man! You seem like a natural! Peace!
Nicely done! Thanks for sharing.
Your second solo x-country, very cool, great job. 😎

I just visited your TH-cam Channel. LOL... you're also a wedding filmmaker. Also as in me too.
Freaking dope! New nickname is 7PK!
Manny Betancourt Haha now how did you get ahold of this video?
Patrick Meehan hahaha. I have spies everywhere...
Good luck for your check ride
Nice video. You did a great job.
Good job!!!! At 6:56.
Good job! I think you must have a good instructor.
I’m flying the same route tomorrow for my solo XC eval
I’m an ATP student
Great job I have been working on my IFR rating at KHNZ just north of RDU. Where are you at now in your training?

thank god it over heated good view in the back nice vid sir dont forget lag on that weather app
Both views were solid, imo
brilliant sir
LOL, I've flown 264D, it's an ATP plane, I thought it sounded familiar. LMAO
Just got my solo Taxi endorsement. Request departure via interstate 40.
Tell the flight school to install shoulder harnesses ASAP.
Good decision making.
Hey Patrick, what filters are you using to shoot this video? Looks really good
No GPS for me on my solo. Paper planner

On the other side of the coast! That’s great practice going through all that different airspace. I’m sure you’re great on the radio
Patrick Meehan haha yeah it’s busy there for sure but I get flight following and I can go into that class C airspace without worrying
How are you coming along??...I’m just getting started and nervous as hell!!
I’m almost instrument rated! All the things that seem hard eventually become easy. You got this
No seatbelts or harness?
Whenever did you get a clearance for a VFR flight or was this flight following?
Craig Lewis I got it at the beginning when I contacted Raleigh Clearance. When departing Class C, you automatically get flight following.
Patrick Meehan thanks for the lesson, will remember this when I depart Class C airspace.
What camera did you use to record if you don't mind me asking?
Most likely a GoPro.
When he can fly a plane 🥵
Read back all ATC instructions dude. don't always just Roger.
You’re shaking the controls bad lmao relax dude
free me and my crow promo
Derren Lee the real reason i made the video
sloppy readback. Some controllers wouldn't tolerate it.
Whatever, this student is better than some veteran pilots I’ve heard, nice ‘constructive’ criticism. SMH…
Student pilot with a Bose + heuh heuh heuh "that's rediculous" STFU trust fund
