Yes I am love you guys !! Happy St Patrick's day from Nova Scotia Canada!! Saw you guys just over a year ago before everything went to heck in a handbag.
About a week ago I left Germany and embarked on a tour through England, starting in Birmingham, later Nottingham, then Southampton. The official reason for my stay was to attend a conference (for youtubers) in Nottingham, then meet a number of video makers and tinkerers throughout the UK. An unofficial reason for my stay was to visit some of the oldest pubs in England (The OId Crown, Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem etc). Everything went well for the first six days and I ended up in various pubs on every evening. But the day after that a number of people who attended the conference reported that they were feeling ill. And I soon found out I had caught Covid. Unfortunately I will now have to stay in my hotel room for the rest of my stay in England and can't meet anyone else. And here I am all alone, thinking back to my teenage days (some 20 years ago) when we used to listen to Irish folk music all the time. One of my all-time favorites is Finnegan's Wake in this version (by you guys)! Back then I was often thinking about visiting Ireland, but never made it. Now that I'm sitting here by myself, I think that my next trip should be to Ireland as I planned so many years ago...
I am grateful to TH-cam for providing a platform for these incredible musicians. 3 years ago I didn't know this kind of music existed. I am honoured to have found it. Thanks to all of you who keep history alive thru music. Too much history is being intentionally destroyed today.
I love this song well most of the irish songs some great memories from my childhood iam dutch but when it was autum my father would always put an old record or cassete with irish music get out some cards he would have a beer me and my sister some hot chocolat and would have the best evenings . And iam verry happy to say i passed on the tradition as we still play cards and always have irish music and songs in the background.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. I was given The Unicorn Record Album by the Handsome, Charming, Entertaining, Funny, Legendary and Extremely Talented Singers and Musicians, The Irish Rovers when I was four. I still have it! I later bought The Unicorn Record Album on CD! This is the first time I have ever heard this Awesome or Seen this Awesome Video! I love it! The Irish Rovers should be Knighted back in the 1980's and should be Now!
Someone I worked with from UK told me this is fighting music back home, not the kind of fights we have in the western world but the kind you shake hands and have a Guinness after😊
So cool to see this video and learn that your father passed such enormous talent along!! Lucky for Vancouver Island that such great Rovers live here... still value my signed cds from the Campbell River concert!!
When I studied the English language in 1976-1978, there were a lot of boring parts. James Joyce... I suffered. I didn't think he had any thing to do with the language and the history of the language. I understand now, so many years later, that to understand a language, and its history, there are painful parts and paths that have to be followed. Finnegan's wake. I have dipped into it, later. I still hate it. I read a short precis at the time. No one noticed, I got top marks for English literature (sorry, Irish people, it was included in English literature, as was all kinds of waste of time). Anyway, I had no idea, no knowledge of the song. I honestly don't think the Swedish lecturers had either. The ones who were actually English... If only they had played the song to us! I still can't appreciate James Joyce.
As much as I love the Rovers, I much prefer Ronnie's version. It just sounds like they're rushing through it like they're in some sort of hurry to finish
Music I was brought up on till I bought to England as a 15 year old. Lived in London for 42 years quite happy my kids born & brought up there.unfortunatly moved to Kent 11 year's ago have had so many racist comments about me being filthy Irish shit & worse. Kent is classed as heart of England wat a joke. I've lived all over this country due to employment but racism is rife here against Irish born.
As a child the whole family would sit down to watch the Irish Rovers after church on Sunday Evenings ... and we are Finnish😆💚☘️
That's what we like to hear.
Are ye ready to go!
Yep always
