I love that they are transparent about the financial aspect. We also renovated our house. We love our backyard - hard to come by here in our part of California. Very relatable.
I would love to know the appraised value of your home now. I think it would be valuable information for people to know if they’re contemplating adding on, etc. 🤓 Heidi should do the kids’ bathroom! ❤ It’d be such a cool spin to seeing her narrate the videos and run the project start to finish 😍
You know what would be really neat? If you guys painted the whole bottom of the coffee bar in chalk paint so that the kids could draw on it and it wouldn't look so plain, and let's face it, get scratched or drawn on by the kids and ruin the clean look it has now. I know I'd love that if I was still a kid. I'd probably like that now too. You guys did a great job and I wish you well in your new-ish home!
Awesome wrap! Love the fireplace. Heidi should definitely do the kids' bathroom, start to finish. It would be a bit of a twist. It's been great watching her get more independent screen time. So happy for you guys to have arrived at this point where you can put your feet up for a minute. You deserve it.
As a real estate agent i can definitely tell you that you made the right decision. It's tough out there right now. I also have a crazy low mortgage from buying 10 years ago. My house is small, has no real primary suite (older home) and a small backyard. To get the things I want id have to triple my mortgage payment and it's not happening. I also really like my neighbors, and that is huge.
Love your house! You guys totally made the right decision to build on and stay in the neighborhood. You have some very awesome established friendships with your neighbors that money can’t buy! 👍😊
You have a beautiful home that you've obviously added value to, which means you'll have more equity. Good decision. As far as being "mostly done" is concerned, just call CMD Construction, they'll finish it up.😆
Best part of this video: seeing you guys relaxing on the couch enjoying the space, with it all done and behind you. And of cotrse, us being sble to see and enjoy the finished product vicariously.
Good luck with ducks! We got ducks 12+ years ago and they are so messy and destructive to a yard! My husband said no more ducks (but chickens are fine)! I'm excited to see what amazing things you come up with for the ducks!
The last point, for me, is *the* point - affordable mortgage beats moving, so long as you like the neighbourhood and neighbours. I'm in the same boat - I bought in 2021 at a 2% and my mortgage is only $1850 for a 2k ft^2 house in Central California. My mortgage would be about 3-4x higher if I did a 1031 exchange and, well, it's cheaper to just do upgrades than lose out on an affordable mortgage. Y'all did fantastic. And have given me ideas on what I would like to do. Keep it up!
It looks amazing! & you all look so beautiful & healthy! Seriously glowing.. 🥰 I love watching you guys. Been with you since 2013. I remember seeing “Making a homemade hot tub” from that I was hooked! 😂 Thank you for always keeping it real! ❤️ keep up the good work 👍
You guys are so cool! I just watched your vlog where you saw the house for the 1st time in person.... to celebrate 5 years in the house, you both need to film a reaction video to that ❤❤❤
We're still in our "starter" house 30 years later. The way prices have gone up in this area (SF Bay) we couldn't afford to buy it today. I'm hoping to have it paid off this year.
Our whole family has really enjoyed watching your remodel videos (this batch as well as the older ones)!! We’re going through the same thing right now - adding about 600 sq ft but ALSO removing all the existing 1970’s “charm” at the same time. So you guys are so relatable! Great to see the process is survivable 😂
We bought a house around the same time as you guys, renovated our kitchen about the same time, and then completed an addition this last year. Almost twinzees except everything we did was smaller and less luxurious :) You guys have done an amazing job!
Thank you for sharing some details with us! It’s really lovely to see you both sitting down together ♥️ Happy New Year beautiful people and to your adorable family! The electric fireplace burns so much cleaner! It looks awesome! This was an incredible project, what you two have accomplished is going to make your home so comfortable while your children grow!
Great episode! But wait ducks? They are so messy! My 2 cents - get a bunch of chickens and just a couple of ducks - their eggs are so yummy and you can minimize their mess a little.
My husband and I have been renovating our home for the past 4 years. It's the same story - we have a really low interest rate and we bought a fixer upper. We're planning on moving and building a new house, and I'm nervous about the 'marital difficulties' as you so kindly put it, but seeing your videos is helping me not be so nervous! Thanks for taking us on this journey!
We were going to move too, but we have too good of an interest rate. What we paid four years ago would buy half what we have now, and the interest rates are insane! Crazy what a difference a few years makes.
MY HUSBAND IS LIKE HEIDI! I used to work as an Exhibit Designer at a museum, so I created design plans. Recently got to redo master bath due to water damage and found husband had harder time understanding plans and ideas until they were built.
Yeah - it's important to be mindful of, patient with, and respect each other's differences in couples. And not look at it as right or wrong but just how it is and work the best with that. Just like the other person has to work with our differences from them that aren't their first or second nature. Usually enough of the differences in a couple (that prefers life and a future together than apart), have good points, strengths and benefits.
I believe that if a couple says they never argue they are lying. I was married 46 years before he passed snd we argued. But i considered our marriage great!!!❤❤
Beautiful addition! Great job! Ducks are so very stinky, you might want to reconsider. They go potty everywhere and it’s like water and the smell is very bad. Our Daughter had them on their little farm, ended up giving them back to original owner. The eggs are yum but not worth the smell.
I moved into a new place end of Nov. Currently just finding all the crazy stuff previous owners did. They looooved making BIG holes in walls eg behind TVs! The bit about the fireplace was helpful btw - currently making the same decision as you guys on gas/electric/working/for aesthetics only.
This is how it starts. Yeah.......And trying to explain certain things to someone who just wants it done.......exhausting. Been there, done that. Some times I wish I never picked up a tool. Lol. Glad you didn't kill one another. Looks awesome! And your sweat equity will pay off later.
I’ve learned a lot from Homesteaders on You Tube, ducks are really messy, rather gross. I would rather have chickens, you buy a certain number for how many people in your family to have enough eggs. Mobile hen house that you can move around so one space doesn’t get destroyed. One perspective. 😊
I appreciate how you guys don't sugar coat the challenges of a marriage. But also show that you can take healthy and constructive steps to resolve conflicts. More people need to see that and see it's all part of a good marriage.
We just finished a kitcken and family room remodel. During the design....i showed my wife kitchen plans, picked out lighting, faucets, etc. She would not look...."She can't visualize it. She has to see it done." The most nervous thing for me to do was to pick everything and hope.
It's okay Heidi, it's actually been scientifically shown that women on average have a harder time visualizing 3D spaces from a description or 2D visualization than men, so Ideally Taylor should have plugged the blueprint design into a 3D home modeling software for you. 😁
Try moving your house across the street to build a new house. Rental house until our old house is setup. Well, moved out in Sept and just poured the old house basement this week and stripped top soil for the new house. In Michigan. So best time of year to build.
When my husband builds things, he’s got it all mapped out in his head. So, frustration happens when I ask him questions, he explains it (without even pencil and paper!) and then I say “but I don’t get it!” Thankfully, his plans work out and our house is improved and we’re still married! 😂❤
12:40 I am close to having aphantasia, but I can map in my head. So I'm the exact opposite of Heidi. I cannot see things but I have a good sense of 3d perception.

Could you share a link for the flooring please? Love it ❤
Could you share the exact model fireplace you guys have? You are right, first time I've been impressed by an electric fireplace!
I used to work with sub contractors in Fort Collins between 2003-2008 glad to recognize some of these names.
I also would love to know what brand and model that fire place is. I have never seen an electric fire place I liked but that one looks great.
The project also gave you months of content.. aka $$ which is an added bonus! It’s been fun to watch all your projects over the years
I love that they are transparent about the financial aspect. We also renovated our house. We love our backyard - hard to come by here in our part of California. Very relatable.
Nothing beats good neighbors, you`ve got a good thing, so glad you didn`t move. You could end up with neighbors like mine (stay off my lawn) haha
I vote Heidi starts her own mini series bathroom reno!
I would love to know the appraised value of your home now. I think it would be valuable information for people to know if they’re contemplating adding on, etc. 🤓

Having great neighbors you've built relationships and trust with is worth it's weight in shiplap

Thanks for sharing all these nitty gritty details. This is gold for couples considering a big remodel!
We hope it helps someone!
Love your house! You guys totally made the right decision to build on and stay in the neighborhood. You have some very awesome established friendships with your neighbors that money can’t buy! 👍😊
You have a beautiful home. Be proud of what you accomplished.

You did a great job and you're both very patient with one another
What doesn't kill your marriage will make it strong lol... congrats on the new addition and looking forward to your next project.

I loved the "martial difficulties" screen! So real!

I’m with Heidi on blueprints!!!
LOL!! "Are we going to fight right now?!" I was dyeing. I'm glad we are not the only ones.
You guys are so cool! I just watched your vlog where you saw the house for the 1st time in person.... to celebrate 5 years in the house, you both need to film a reaction video to that ❤❤❤

You guys are awesome. You have a real marriage and you don't try to put on this perfect "fakeness" for the cameras. Keep up the good work.
just keepin' it 100 over here
Definitely wouldn't want to lose that wonderful backyard.
This was fun. It was really really fun. Just to see what you’ve achieved and how awesome it is. Good luck in your new home.
Thank you! We're loving it!

Love your home ,family and videos.
Great episode! But wait ducks? They are so messy! My 2 cents - get a bunch of chickens and just a couple of ducks - their eggs are so yummy and you can minimize their mess a little.
Agree 💯! Duck eggs are yummy but so not worth the mess and smell. Chickens are much better.
I love what you did with the house! Beautiful work guys!

It's absolutely beautiful!! Great job, Taylor and company!
We were going to move too, but we have too good of an interest rate. What we paid four years ago would buy half what we have now, and the interest rates are insane! Crazy what a difference a few years makes.
Looks so good! Love the honesty about the process I remember when you bought it. Y’all have come along way.
Well done! Enjoy the space!

Another plus for an electric fireplace, cheaper to enjoy. My gas fireplace bumps up my gas bill considerably. I use it mindfully.
The idea that you are not treating the house as a "throw away" and doing what you needed to do to make it work!
I moved into a new place end of Nov. Currently just finding all the crazy stuff previous owners did. They looooved making BIG holes in walls eg behind TVs! The bit about the fireplace was helpful btw - currently making the same decision as you guys on gas/electric/working/for aesthetics only.
Your home is amazing
I’m so glad y’all stayed! It’s such a great place.
Such a good job! Love everything you guys did with the Reno!
This is how it starts. Yeah.......And trying to explain certain things to someone who just wants it done.......exhausting. Been there, done that. Some times I wish I never picked up a tool. Lol. Glad you didn't kill one another. Looks awesome! And your sweat equity will pay off later.

this is cool!! God bless you guys!
I love what you guys did! It looks great! Great posts too! Thanks for sharing! ❤
You are literally sitting in a house made of memories. That's priceless.
I appreciate how you guys don't sugar coat the challenges of a marriage. But also show that you can take healthy and constructive steps to resolve conflicts. More people need to see that and see it's all part of a good marriage.
Beautiful! Enjoy and congrats!
Looks absolutely fantastic! Well done!
Thank you! We're super happy with how it turned out.
Good neighbors are everything! Your house looks great!!!
Just saw your hat "slogan".. perfect fit for you 😄
Thank you so much for this series-it was such a joy to watch. Beautiful home for your beautiful family.
Thanks for sharing the journey dude family 😁👍 was a great series
You did a fantastic job! Look forward to your escapades
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Feels amazing to enjoy the fruits of your labor!!!
God bless you all in your new home!! ❤
Mini splits are a total game changer. So proud of all your hard work, as always. I love all your projects!
Your house is gorgeous-fantastic job!
I'm with you on that. I've got a very low interest rate. And I couldn't move into a "better" house with what I would make selling my current house.
Loved watching all of the changes that you did. Now, about the upstairs bathroom. 😂😂😂
Y’all are the cutest couple!! Your kiddos are adorable!! House looks great !! 😀😀😀😀😀😀
You guys are such a nice couple you guy are perfect. And your house is the best guys.
Taylor Heidi and your family happy new year
Congratulations
Thank you!!
I love your family. I think you all mesh together so well.
Love that new window behind you!! Looks great!!
We just finished a kitcken and family room remodel. During the design....i showed my wife kitchen plans, picked out lighting, faucets, etc. She would not look...."She can't visualize it. She has to see it done." The most nervous thing for me to do was to pick everything and hope.
Yeah I had to photoshop a TON to help with the visuals
I love that closet and the coffee bar
Are the stairs done?
Well done!!! 👏
Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing.
11:24 this is how it starts
❤❤❤😂❤❤❤
Great video! Enjoyed from Texas!
Love yall

Good job, guys! ❤
So jealous of the bench storage! I love that for all of the appliances!
Its been great for our stuff!
Can't wait to see Heidi's kids bath reno 😉
I have no doubt she'd crush it.
@DudeDad
Totally agree!

Why did you do shiplap on the ceiling? Answer: because Joanna Gaines said so.
Exactly what I was thinking
It was fun to watch the process. ❤
thanks for following!
Looks great!
Great job!
So many changes . Congrats
His home is worth a million now
When my husband builds things, he’s got it all mapped out in his head. So, frustration happens when I ask him questions, he explains it (without even pencil and paper!) and then I say “but I don’t get it!” Thankfully, his plans work out and our house is improved and we’re still married! 😂❤
Hey dude dad how about tackle a beautiful FireWise, waterwise, crevice garden?
12:40 I am close to having aphantasia, but I can map in my head. So I'm the exact opposite of Heidi. I cannot see things but I have a good sense of 3d perception.
One of the next projects should be your Wife as the general contractor on the kids bathroom. Then comes the change orders….lol
I've always wanted to get ducks and call them "the quackers". Names Ritz, Club, Trisket, CheezIt!
You are a great couple
@heidi I’d love to know about your couch. It looks so comfortable
Heidi doing a video of her Reno’ing the kids bathroom would be awesome!
Great job! It’s beautiful! 😊
The addition is beautiful.
