A simple solution to this:- Women should first fill the ladies section and then only they should be allowed in general section, a lot of time when a women has a male companion (father, husband or son) they sit in general section, even when the ladies section is half empty, and of course they take up seat in general section by telling men to get up (don't come at me I've witnessed this a lot if time) So, if there are seats empty in ladies section then women should be told go there, even if they have a male companion with them.

Had WORST experience in Delhi Metro. I was standing in a coach with my wife and son. Being a tourist I had no idea there can be a ladies coach in Metro. In a station suddenly a staff appeared and took out of the coach with my son, my wife panicked and jumped out of the coach and fell on the platform. Nobody cared. We got out and took a cab. Heartless city with hesrtless people.

Given the prevalence of sexual assault, sexual harassment and general creepiness in India, the Delhi metro has designated the first carriage of every train for women's exclusive occupancy. Now, women can still freely travel in other carriages say it they're with family, or friends or their boyfriend. However, in the general carriages they've also designated certain seats for women (like 2 out of 28) and given that elderly people also have reserved seats, this puts a disproportionate burden on male passengers who are the majority of metro passengers save for college areas. Now, as someone with a lot of female friends, I really like the women's only carriage idea. I'll admit, during rush hour when the general carriages are bursting at the seams and the women's carriage is relatively empty (as seen in the video), I get a bit resentful, but i know it's for the better. Women's reserved seats, however, are the dumbest thing I've heard of. In the service of saving women from sexual harassment you relegate then to a seat in the corner ahaindt a glass pane where they can he crowded? The fuck? These are the growing pains of a developing nation and society and we have to suffer then but there's light on the other end of the tunnel.

There's a reason why there's a separate women compartment in the train. It's not an gender equality issue but it's actually for the protection of women given the harassment and eve teasing, women usually go through frequently in the country. And the reason why there are separate reserved seats for women and senior citizens in the general compartment, just so that they can travel more comfortably and with ease given their health. For women, it can be that she's on her periods or maybe she's pregnant and for senior citizens, it can be their age, overall health. So before commenting illogically that we need to have separate male compartments, please think through. We are not more vulnerable and exploited as compared to women and elderly citizens. As a common citizen and a man, we all need have a responsibility to make the society more safe and respectful towards our women and elderly citizens.
Call it anything, it's just an excuse to harass men. Either make the whole train unreserved or give reserved coaches to men. And stop being arrogant and trying to hide your anti male attitude and thinking by teaching me the meanings of words.

In a station suddenly a staff appeared and took out of the coach with my son, my wife panicked and jumped out of the coach and fell on the platform. Nobody cared. We got out and took a cab. Heartless city with hesrtless people.

This video was taken in the Delhi metro (urban mass transit rail system with overgriund and underground segments spanning over 300km. Given the prevalence of sexual assault, sexual harassment and general creepiness in India, the Delhi metro has designated the first carriage of every train for women's exclusive occupancy. Now, women can still freely travel in other carriages say it they're with family, or friends or their boyfriend. However, in the general carriages they've also designated certain seats for women (like 2 out of 28) and given that elderly people also have reserved seats, this puts a disproportionate burden on male passengers who are the majority of metro passengers save for college areas. Now, as someone with a lot of female friends, I really like the women's only carriage idea. I'll admit, during rush hour when the general carriages are bursting at the seams and the women's carriage is relatively empty (as seen in the video), I get a bit resentful, but i know it's for the better. Women's reserved seats, however, are the dumbest thing I've heard of. In the service of saving women from sexual harassment you relegate then to a seat in the corner ahaindt a glass pane where they can he crowded? The fuck? These are the growing pains of a developing nation and society and we have to suffer then but there's light on the other end of the tunnel.

There's a reason why there's a separate women compartment in the train. It's not an gender equality issue but it's actually for the protection of women given the harassment and eve teasing, women usually go through frequently in the country.
And the reason why there are separate reserved seats for women and senior citizens in the general compartment, just so that they can travel more comfortably and with ease given their health. For women, it can be that she's on her periods or maybe she's pregnant and for senior citizens, it can be their age, overall health.
So before commenting illogically that we need to have separate male compartments, please think through. We are not more vulnerable and exploited as compared to women and elderly citizens.
As a common citizen and a man, we all need have a responsibility to make the society more safe and respectful towards our women and elderly citizens.

First off, you didn't understand what was the perspective I wrote in the main comment. Then you are saying make it reserved for males as well. Usually reservation is done for specific group of people because it's understandable that such group lack behind due to some reasons. I explained those reasons for both elderly citizens and women in the main comment. I mean why do you think there's a need of reservation of seats for men?? What's the point of reservation then if its provided to men as well? Its not even reservation then..its just bifurcation of coaches/seats.
Talking about harassment, I know one incident where my friend faced harassment by a random stranger in the metro late at night. Luckily her station arrived meantime.
If a man enters women reserved coach, getting them out is not harassment against them, its corrective measure.
Anyway, its futile explaining to you. You be happy with your opinion.
