I love Greenaway's films and it's about time that the mainstream to start to appreciate what a unique film maker and artist he is. Congratulations Mr. Greenaway!
An absolute inspiration for me an hopefully for other young people. Going to the cinema is becoming tedious, feeling I'm being treated like a brainless human being. Contemporary cinema has amazing artist but sadly is the bi product of what an audience wants to hear, see, listen... incredibly predictable. Getting out from the comfort zone is as precious as watching Peter Greenaway's films.
His audience seems to be expanding. Younger cinephiles are discovering and falling in love with his work; it helps that his movies are easier to find than they were 10 years ago. It's great to see him get the recognition he deserves at long last.
@@TulseLuper Yes and no. He was quite neglected in the DVD era, which didn't really help, nor the fact that bigger home video companies like Criterion passed on his work. He hasn't really made a great film in decades either, or at least not one that was popular or widely acclaimed. I'm not sure how old you are, but I'd say that almost an entire generation of cinephiles have not really been exposed to his work, at least comparatively speaking. He was really a big deal in most of the western world in the 80s and 90s. America was probably the slowest place to catch on.
