Bucks vs. Celtics has been the best rivalry in the NBA for the last 5 years running. The moves this offseason only add to that case. This is what Yankees vs. Red Sox was in the 2000s. Both teams going after each other both on and off the court, in terms of wins, great players, plus bad blood.
Imo, this helps the Celtics offense significantly. In a way, the offense kinda mirrors the Bucks with Jrue. KP and Brook as stretch 5’s who protect the rim well, dwhite and Grayson Allen being off-ball shooters (albeit, GA is a better shooter) who can defend and handle the ball. Brown and Middleton being the second options who do well at creating shots (middleton is significantly better in pnr, but brown is more athletic and elite in transition), and Tatum & Giannis as the stars who have probably the most difference between them; no one is matching Giannis going downhill, but Tatum significantly increased his free throws and finishes around the rim. Im not saying those two rosters are the same, or that the results are gonna be similar, but I say it because I think its gonna help Jrue Holiday fit in seamlessly with the C’s. Tatum & Jrue pnr is gonna feed families. Honestly the coolest part of the trade is that the Celtics have a Jrue and Dwhite backcourt, so opposing teams offenses’ will be in Alcatraz💀😭
HOT TAKE I THINK CELTICS ACTIVELY GOT WORSE Celtics overreacted with the Jrue trade because they got afraid of Dame, and their matchup against the Bucks. But in that trade they depleted their paint defense and overall inside presence as well as got rid of virtually any scoring from the bench. They looked at the 2018 playoffs and Jrue "locking up Dame". The thing is Jrue didn't "lock him up". He was fantastic and guarded him like his life was on the line, but it was more of a team effort. AD, Rondo, and Jrue locked him up. NOT JRUE ON HIS OWN. In 2022 they guarded Giannis amazingly because they had Grant, Al, and Timelord and they still needed to double or triple-team him in the playoffs while Giannis still averaged 34/15/7 On top of that, the only reason they were able to double and triple-team Giannis in the paint was because they could sag off on the perimeter. Jrue was struggling as a 2nd option (granted he was assigned the toughest matchup defensively making him depleted) Grayson was straight ass, could not create a shot for himself if his like was on the line, and Bucks' only ISO scorer and best shooter from beyond the arc was out. THEY TOOK THEM TO 7 DESPITE THAT Boston lost their best Giannis defender in Grant Williams this off-season. They lost their only true center in Timelord. They lost 6MOTY Malcolm Brogdon and DPOY Marcus Smart but got in return Jrue. After the trade, they arguably have just as good of a perimeter defense as before (definitely better with the one-on-one matchups as Jrue is better in that regard than Smart but that's beside the point), but gotten significantly worse inside this off-season. C's defense will be very stretched against a team like the Bucks when Khris, Dame, Pat/Beasley, Brook, and Giannis are on the floor. You need at least one person to guard each one of these guys as each one can shoot (aside from Giannis). Best case scenario you sag off on Pat or Beasley and you just hope that they don't have a good shooting night. This same thing applies to a team like The Nuggets or 76ers (if they trade Harden for something significant) When Giannis / Jokic / Embiid drive into the lane you need to either double-team them or triple-team them (depending on your defensive personnel). That strategy works just fine IF THE TEAM HAS NO SHOOTERS OR THOSE SHOOTERS STRUGGLE MAJORLY. You cannot do that with a team like The Nuggets that have Murray, MPJ, and KCP, or The Bucks with Dame, Khris, and Brook on the floor. I would even argue you can't do that with teams like the Cavs, Lakers, Kings, or Heat. The amount of teams with good offensive centers or power forwards in the EAST ALONE is crazy. (Bucks, 76ers, Cavs, Knicks, Heat, Magic) Why would Boston bank on Al Horford and Tingus Pingus to be a dominant defensive backcourt is beyond my understanding of the game. On top of that THEY HAVE NO FUCKING BENCH. Boston has virtually no scoring from the bench. The only guy on that roster who will not be starting and can average 10 points is Derrick White. So in case he turns into 6MOTY and starts going for 20 to make up for the loss of Brogdon, I have no idea who will be their bench scorer. Al Horford can't reliably guard dominant bigs like Giannis / Jokic / Embiid (he's 37 for fucks sake). He needs a second guy to help him and keep him reasonably fresh for the playoffs. KP could have been that guy if he never blew up his ACL. He is big, can play center, and is a decent shot blocker (he's 7'3 it would be a miracle if he wasn't) but he is a glass cannon and overall not that good of a defender either. The only reason he is regarded as one is because he is 7'3 and shocker, it's hard to get around a guy like that in the paint. Both of these guys can get injured and miss the playoffs. Horford will be 38 by the time ECF rolls. There was only a handful of players in HISTORY to play meaningful minutes at age 38. There is no indication that KP will suddenly not be injury-prone and have a stellar season. If they bank their chances of stopping those bigs with a glass knee tingus pingus and a center that was born when the USSR was still around and Ronald Regan was in office. Then I like the chances of everyone else. Boston's perimeter defense will be fantastic. But they have no inside presence to reliably guard dominant bigs. Their defensive personnel diminished like crazy and their bench unit is virtually non-existent at this point without a scoring punch from there. They are relying on 37-year-old player and a notorious health avoider Tingus Pingus to be a dominant backcourt and anchor their defense in the paint. The only thing they have going for themselves right now is the amazing scoring duo in the starting lineup and great perimeter/wing defense as well as great spacing on offense IF KP IS HEALTY I DON'T BUY THAT
Yea…. Everything you said made total sense. I agree Celtics have taken a step back in defense. Losing brogdon Williams and smart was not … smart… at all. Oh well. We will see what happens.
In all those clips you showed I never saw Jrue strip Dame, the difference here is Dames handles are 10x that of Jrues, and whenever Dame got past Jrue he had Brook right there and yet still Dame shot 11-16 when guarded by Jrue in his Bucks tenure
The only person we will miss in regards to Giannis is Grant. Horford is our Giannis defender and we still have him. For as good a defender as Rob is when healthy, he didn’t defend the real bigs, Al did.
Yeah but Giannis is only getting better while horford is getting older. Last time they faced Giannis had the first 200,100,50 series in history without middleton. Now with with Dame he’s going to be single coverage almost all the time.
@@georgepoly4842 you can’t stop him, Rob COULDN’T at all, but you make it difficult. We won’t have to double Dame because we literally have two of the best (best) wing defenders in the league! Both have been shown to handle Dame just fine, especially Jrue. Limit Dame and everyone else. Destroy them on offense! It’s gonna be a tough series but with Jrue, we stack up much better after they got Dame. I really don’t think people are accounting how horrible their playoff defense will be. Who is Dame guarding? We already sent Lopez to the bench with just Al, now imagine him trying to stop Al and KP, he can never play (hope Al comes off the bench)! Middleton will have to stop a Jay, White, or Jrue haha!! They will try to put Dame on WHITE at their best luck on defense!! Destroyed! Literally who do they have to defend 3 out of 5 starters???? The ones they “match up” with have already put it on their better defenders in the past! 😂😂
Holiday Tatum and Brown had 50 point games last season. Porzingis had a 43 point career high game last season. I can't remember the last time or if ever we had four players that were able to do that on the Celtics.
Celtics are stacked are you kidding me? Holiday and White are two of the best defensive guards in the league. Tatum and Brown two of the best scoring and defensive forwards in the league. Then you have KP who can score from anywhere and protect the rim. Then their bench is really solid too.
As a knicks fan the dame saga went a well as I could have asked. Bucks and Celtics were already above us and the heat and 76ers didn’t get better with dame or jrue. And we kept our assets for a better fitting star trade.
Other than Embiid... no other Superstar is going to be available any time soon... for example... Luka Doncic could be available... maybe in 2027 🤷♂️... but right now... only Embiid seems like the guy who would ask for a trade soon...
@@jasonb97 you never really know who’s going to be available. Maybe Jimmy butler is next offseason maybe Donovan Mitchell is if the cavs disappoint. Embiid could too but time will tell.
@@dontworryidontknowwhereyou7972 I was mainly commenting on the "better fitting star trade"... I mean for the Knicks either Donovan or Damian Lillard would be extremely nice next to Brunson... but I think a big man like Embiid is nicer... Giannis would have been even nicer but he's out of the picture for another 4 years... and Butler doesn't fit the timeline... it's better to invest in someone younger... Butler might wanna settle in Miami after all... he did enough even if he never wins a chip... some future upgrades for the Knicks in the future would be KAT or SGA...
Why has not a single person that I’ve seen talk about the situation in Portland mentioned Jerami Grant?!?!? I know he’s on a pricy contract, but he would be a HUGE addition for a contending team. Lakers: Rui, D-Lo and a pick or two. 76ers: Harden & draft compensation. Heat: Lowry & draft compensation. All of those make Grant’s new team better & help the Blazers build for the future.
I definitely do love bringing in a guy with a ring and who understands what it takes to win. They NEEDED that. Again, I’m just really concerned about the front court depth with 52 year old Al Horford and KP with his brittle bone disease… Osteoporzingis 😂 (I came you with that one on my own and I’m very proud)
Bro what is this background music I’ve heard it multiple times and I remember hearing it on SoundCloud back in the day but it’s something I just don’t know where to find anymore
Al Horford been in the league for as long as KD, Jeff Green, Thaddeus Young, and Conley. If we start considering Al ancient, then the same should apply to those guys.
He was just hurt too much Obviously, his impact was undeniable but last season he played 35 games and never looked like he did 2 seasons ago Ultimately, you have to give something up to get something back We lose depth in the front court, but what NBA contender has 3 rotational centers? What we gain with Jrue is the best perimeter defense in the NBA by a mile, we also have solved and solidified our backcourt which is more important than center depth IMO I will miss Rob a lot! He was my favorite player on the team, but the possibilities unlocked with Jrue are worth it to me
My ONLY fear with this trade is that Luke Kornet is our third big man right now and he’s not a championship piece, he’s barely an 11th guy. Every time he plays looks like it’s his first time seeing a basketball. Idk how they can do it, and Blake Griffin isn’t the answer either, but they’ve got to find a way to add one more big man to back up Al and KP
The Celtics have lost their identity. Getting rid of Smart and Timelord is foolish. I love the holiday trade, but they’re gonna be far into luxury tax and have no bench if tatum re-signs. Unless brad Stevens is planning on trading Tatum for shooters and bigs like some sith lord
“You have to trade the pieces that hurt” Man, this is how I feel about this trade. Gonna miss tf out of Jrue. Can’t wait to watch Dame and Giannis cook him.
Time for everyone to spend all season hyping up a conference finals/semifinals match up only for one of the teams to choke/have some injury and get knocked early
Yeah Boston doesn't have an answer to Antetokounmpo, no one really has. But Milwaukee doesn't have an answer for Tatum and Brown as shown last season and now they don't have Jrue to guard one of them.
I actually been thinking Boston should sign Dwight if the warriors didn't. they are extremely thin on the front court. Horford is old and KP is injury prone. one of them goes down Boston is in trouble.
I feel like the Celtics made too many drastic changes to their championship team and it’s gonna work negatively for them . They gotten rid of Marcus Smart , Robert Williams , and MalcomBrogdan all in one offseason .
Dwight at this point is at best a 12- 15 minutes a night player. Porzingis and Horford aren't enough and Dwight won't be any where close to enough if either or both go down.

Jrue is inconsistent as hell in the playoffs offensively.
Kp is a great rim protector as well , its not like he does nothing like Christian wood or something
If he's healthy you're good if not you're f*cked.
There is some great bigs overseas people should be looking at. Derek Pardon in particular
As a Celtics fan, my reaction was the same as yours.
May TimeLord play the best ball he can in Portland*salutes*
HOT TAKE I THINK CELTICS ACTIVELY GOT WORSE
Celtics overreacted with the Jrue trade because they got afraid of Dame, and their matchup against the Bucks.
In 2022 they guarded Giannis amazingly because they had Grant, Al, and Timelord and they still needed to double or triple-team him in the playoffs while Giannis still averaged 34/15/7
On top of that, the only reason they were able to double and triple-team Giannis in the paint was because they could sag off on the perimeter. Jrue was struggling as a 2nd option (granted he was assigned the toughest matchup defensively making him depleted) Grayson was straight ass, could not create a shot for himself if his like was on the line, and Bucks' only ISO scorer and best shooter from beyond the arc was out.
THEY TOOK THEM TO 7 DESPITE THAT
Boston lost their best Giannis defender in Grant Williams this off-season.
This same thing applies to a team like The Nuggets or 76ers (if they trade Harden for something significant)
When Giannis / Jokic / Embiid drive into the lane you need to either double-team them or triple-team them (depending on your defensive personnel).
The only thing they have going for themselves right now is the amazing scoring duo in the starting lineup and great perimeter/wing defense as well as great spacing on offense IF KP IS HEALTY
I DON'T BUY THAT
Yea…. Everything you said made total sense. I agree Celtics have taken a step back in defense. Losing brogdon Williams and smart was not … smart… at all. Oh well. We will see what happens.
It's not a hot take, they did.
Good luck to them finding a replacement for Brogdan
It's not a hot take if you think about it. You bring up a lot of great points here.
Hoping Rob Williams doesn’t lose his juice in Portland and beyond
@@georgepoly4842he was also shooting horrendous. Which was a lot due to Horford
@@baileychamberlain1583also he was the only buck that series (no middleton and jrue is terrible on offense in playoffs)
my goat dom using unc as his intro power move.
Rrobert William will be missed a lil for Boston
Holiday Tatum and Brown had 50 point games last season. Porzingis had a 43 point career high game last season. I can't remember the last time or if ever we had four players that were able to do that on the Celtics.
Wish we had your IRL reaction to seeing this news. Lmaoooo
Holiday to Celtics is such a panic move, Celtics are shaking from Bucks
Celtics are stacked are you kidding me? Holiday and White are two of the best defensive guards in the league. Tatum and Brown two of the best scoring and defensive forwards in the league. Then you have KP who can score from anywhere and protect the rim. Then their bench is really solid too.
Everyone acting like the Bucks are now the 2017 warriors is crazy. They're very good but let's not forget about everyone else lmao
His weird tactic might be strange but it works but yeah getting more depth at the bigs even if its a old af dwight or anyone else is probably wanted
Nerlens Noel one timeeeee??? 👀👀👀
As a bucks fan I'm not mad about it jrue couldn't card jimmy he aint guarding dame can't wait for a bucks vs Celtics ecf 👿👿👿
That outro picture kinda looked like the crib in 2k7
I definitely do love bringing in a guy with a ring and who understands what it takes to win. They NEEDED that. Again, I’m just really concerned about the front court depth with 52 year old Al Horford and KP with his brittle bone disease… Osteoporzingis 😂
(I came you with that one on my own and I’m very proud)
Yall worried about Giannis when we got Derrick White on the court SMH 🤦🏽♂️
MANN real ones know the the song in the background!😭
Neemy Queta is going to make that jump and be a great role player on this Squad 💪
Neemy locking Giannis up in the ECF is coming🔥🔥🔥
As a long time Celtics fan and a Giannis fan I always find myself rooting for Giannis more when they play each other
Bro what is this background music I’ve heard it multiple times and I remember hearing it on SoundCloud back in the day but it’s something I just don’t know where to find anymore
XV - Awesome Ft Pusha T
A true 2k classic
Actually it was white widow by bsd.u it’s the first background song in the first few minutes of the vid
Going to miss timelord 💔💔 no more lob to rob 😩😩😩😩😩
Al Horford been in the league for as long as KD, Jeff Green, Thaddeus Young, and Conley. If we start considering Al ancient, then the same should apply to those guys.
They kinda are
@@stevefrench6191 True.
Don’t worry Dom, Wenyen Gabriel is on the way😈
PAT RILEY IS WASHED LOOOLLLL
Cronin took him to the cleaners 🤣🤣
Ok Dom ok Dom we see you!! But are we sure that this is going to work out come next spring?
I’m nervously excited
First Smart, now rob
Its been a tough offseason for celtics diehards
You have neemias queta, a big defensive player
williams the center that was supposed to team with porzingis?
As a Heat can great Pickup but Losing Rob is gonna hurt them
He was just hurt too much
Obviously, his impact was undeniable but last season he played 35 games and never looked like he did 2 seasons ago
Ultimately, you have to give something up to get something back
We lose depth in the front court, but what NBA contender has 3 rotational centers? What we gain with Jrue is the best perimeter defense in the NBA by a mile, we also have solved and solidified our backcourt which is more important than center depth IMO
I will miss Rob a lot! He was my favorite player on the team, but the possibilities unlocked with Jrue are worth it to me
Lateral move for the Celtics. Jrue replaces Smart but they have the same problems they did before these trades.
As A Cs fan... holiday is who smart THINKS he is. Its def an upgrade
You got that insurance check from the highlights?
I knew Jrue was getting traded but… THIS fast is insane to me 😮😅😂
I think Lamar Stevens will be our best bench defender against Giannis.
I was waiting on this lol
Bucks vs celtics feel like how okc and gs was in 2016
Streets saying Timelord will stay and play the 5 while Ayton plays his favored 4 position, with Brogdan getting traded
Demarcus cousins would b a great fit
The Celtics have lost their identity. Getting rid of Smart and Timelord is foolish. I love the holiday trade, but they’re gonna be far into luxury tax and have no bench if tatum re-signs. Unless brad Stevens is planning on trading Tatum for shooters and bigs like some sith lord
As a heat fan... I'm at peace
GSW should be trying to pick up Time Lord immediately
As a Heat fan, I am WEARY
it is a good trade for the C's but mannn thats alot to give up
Jrue Holiday is now a rival. . . I'm hoping this fails
giannis feasting against this team
Hot take, Celtics are bad next year. Paying Brown will have been a mistake
going to place a curse on the timberwolves so they become desperate enough to trade the celtics naz reid at the deadline
Embiid might be asking for a trade after this season, and butler and Bam might not be too far behind.
Bam is the franchise player. They won't trade him
“You have to trade the pieces that hurt”
Man, this is how I feel about this trade. Gonna miss tf out of Jrue. Can’t wait to watch Dame and Giannis cook him.
If I recall correctly but didn’t Jrue lock up Dame back in 2018 🤣🤣
@@dewaynerobvais4030 2018 lmao..... Good to see this idiot is still around.
@@dewaynerobvais4030definately did ngl and i like dame
The Celtics jus got the dame stopper when they couldn’t trade for dame
I see Dwight Howard packing his bags for Boston soon.
People always forget about brogdon
I think jrue holiday would of been good for the warriors, clippers, heat and 76ers but I figured the Celtics had the right pieces to get him.
Time for everyone to spend all season hyping up a conference finals/semifinals match up only for one of the teams to choke/have some injury and get knocked early
I feel like every celtics fan is overlooking the fact they got Queta as a center backup
Dom threw the 2012 Soundtrack🥺
Gottta play that often.
How ya feel ??!
Were Robert Willams' knees that bad? Asking because I don't know, not to be mean or troll.
Check his number of games played..
The answer's there
I thought he was a blazers fan 😭
As a Laker fan, I hate that the Celtics got jrue 😂😂
Enes Freedom Kanter has entered the chat (former Celtic)
Watching those Randle clicks reminds me why I don’t like him as a Knicks fan
It’s odd knowing the end of the warriors is coming very soon
Dom curse reversed
Boston has won enough titles in their franchise history
Man I think Holiday would have been good with the Heat as well.
I feel like the Celtics made too many drastic changes to their championship team and it’s gonna work negatively for them .
They gotten rid of Marcus Smart , Robert Williams , and MalcomBrogdan all in one offseason .
Don’t forget grant williams
Bro what are these lowlights 😂
The Celtics better pick up Dwight Howard cause that paint looking sweet
Dwight in 2023?
Yeah this team is cooked 🤣
Dwight at this point is at best a 12- 15 minutes a night player. Porzingis and Horford aren't enough and Dwight won't be any where close to enough if either or both go down.
They traded smart and got Jrue. Not that much of a difference
Way better defender, better jumpshooter and driver, better decision making, and better passer he can actually throw a lob too.
and they lost Grant and Rob who were also great on Giannis
