Absolutely great idea! I was concerned because I would be able to pull strands of yarn out once I was done with the pom pom and I figured over time it would just get worse and fall apart! So thank you for this solution!🥰
Thank you so much for this video! I like to add pom-poms on beanies but every time my knots loosen up while using pom-pom maker. Now I finally enjoy to make pom-poms with your constrictor knot :)
What a game changer! I really appreciate this information. It worked to tighten up the pom-pom that had me concerned, but it will also be wonderful for tassels. Thanks so much!🪢
That knot is absolutely genius! I normally use a double wrap (surgeon's knot) for my first tie on a pom-pom. It loosens just a bit, but way less than a single wrap (start of a square knot. Will try this on the next hat I make a pom-pom for!
Great - I've got the pompom maker and have been putting off making 2 for the hats I've finished. Great thing is, I don't need to employ my husband in the endeavor (willing thought he is). Thanks!
I have never made pom poms for the very reason that my first attempt as a child resulted in an unruly mess. I will now have another go, thank you! I have seen really good ones made with roving 😊
What a fantastic tutorial! I absolutely love pom poms but haven’t had the best luck with them. I made my grandson a hat and the pom pom fell apart when my daughter washed it. I didn’t use a pom pom maker but followed a tutorial on how to make one by hand. That was probably half the problem, lol. I then went out and bought all the different size pom pom makers that Clover sells but have put off making one. You have given me hope that the next one will come out right! Thanks Roxanne!! Awesome tutorial! Now onto Casual Friday! Have a lovely weekend!
When I got my pom pom maker, my little girls wanted pom poms and so we made several and tied them to their bags. But as time went on, they start falling apart because of the knots I guess! My solution- buy faux fur pom poms! This solution is much better, thank you
That’s brilliant...🙂I can’t wait to try it, I’ve always had issues with losing pompom strands, this looks like this will remedy this .Thanks for video 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I would like to see you do an in depth tutorial on duplicate stitch. Doing the stitch itself is easy, but how you travel to the next stitch right or left, up or down, or on the diagonal makes a big difference in how the stitches look. I find letters are especially difficult to do well so that both legs of all of the stitches are the same size and don't look skewed or pulled out of shape. Thank you.
@@patportran4683 Well, depending on the direction you go when moving to the next stitch, I've noticed that the bottom of some stitches appears to be open. I know you can adjust the tension, but that doesn't seem to help this issue. At least for me.
Thank you VERY much for this video. I needed to make 11 identical pom poms for a child's toy that I knit and was dreading it because of the knot issue. Problem completely solved - I'll never do it ny other way!
So helpful. Thanks. Do you have a few tips for attaching them to the top of the hat so they don't flop around and wibble-wobble. I too would find a video on duplicate stitch, especially the traveling bit helpful.
I have found it helpful to use a two-hole button as a stabilizer when attaching a pom pom to a hat. Just run the two ends of the yarn through the holes of a button placed inside the crown of the hat, then tie a knot with the ends. I have also just tied a bow with the ends, so that I can remove the pom pom before machine washing the hat.
Thank you so much for this video! What is the best yarn for jewelry Pom Poms? I am noticing the acrylic yarn I am currently using sheds or has lint. Any advice? Thank you in advance!
Any ideas fo detachable tassels? I don't think snaps will work for tassels. Thought of a button, or maybe latch closing device. Detachable mostly for washing purposes. Tassels don't wash & wear well. (Made me niece a triangle shaw, she chose the pattern because of the tassels)
I wouldn't personally use a cotton yarn, because the cotton yarns I have are too thick and dense. I prefer a thin, strong yarn, preferably one that can be washed in the same way that the rest of the project can be washed. For me, that means leftover sock yarn.
@@rebeccapfeifer2376 No solution yet. Nothing I have ever tried has knotted a pom pom tight enough to stop the yarn ends from being able to be pulled out.

Seriously - how did I ever knit without you ? SO many pom poms that failed. But no more !! THANK YOU for being the best instructor on the web.
This makes making pompoms even easier!!! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
This is so so good. I was always frustrated with my Pompoms. The one I did right now is so secure and nice! Thank you!!
This hat crown series was exactly what I needed! Thank you!!

So timely! First time using the Clover pompom maker. I am making baby hats that take two pompoms each. Thank you!

I've made pom pom for years always using the yarn of the pom pom. Great idea. Always enjoy your video, very informative. Thank you very much.👍🏼👏🏼🧶

Thank you so much for this clear and informative tutorial. I've made my first firm pom using the constrictor knot you discuss. 🥳

This is called a “constrictor knot”. I’ve been struggling to get it to work. The yarn needle solves it for me. Thanks!
Your channel is a blessing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. So helpful!
I can't wait to try this!! I've always disliked adding pompoms because of not being able to secure them properly!! Thank you for this awesome tip!!
Perfect timing! I just finished a hat that is calling a Pom Pom! Thank you Roxanne for all your great tips.
Thanks. That knot makes life pom poms much easier!
Yes it does!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I knew there had to be a successful way to make a tight Pom Pom!
You are so welcome!
Thank you ❤
Just when I thought I knew how to tie a good knot for a pom-pom, I learned a better way to do it! Thanks Roxanne!!
GENIUS

How do you attach the Pom Pom to the top of a hat ?
Great great great video !!!!! I’ve got one to take off the Pom Pom maker .
Thank you

I have no idea, sorry!
Very handy. I just had a pom pom that I put on my daughter's hat disintegrate because I hadn't tightened it enough.
Hi do you have any jig to attach pom pom through button attaching machine.
Have a loop from the tassel top that passes thru the fabric. Then pass the tassel through the loop. A bit like those straps you can add to a camera.
So, is this a clove hitch?🤔 I'm trying to remember and that's the closest for the description and what I could see.
Apparently, the clove hitch is similar to a constrictor knot, but there is a difference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constrictor_knot
A clove hitch!! Why didn’t I ever think of that?
I saw somewhere that it was *similar* to a clove hitch, but not exactly the same. The comparison went over my head, though, so I could be wrong!
It’s that clever bit where the needle goes under the X that makes it just a little more secure than a Clove Hitch.
Love this. Thank you, I will most definitely give this a try.😊
like video thank you a lot
Hi Roxanne would you use a cotton yarn which is strong? Do you have a video on making a cord for a baby bonnet?
I wouldn't personally use a cotton yarn, because the cotton yarns I have are too thick and dense. I prefer a thin, strong yarn, preferably one that can be washed in the same way that the rest of the project can be washed. For me, that means leftover sock yarn.
The link to Amazon is missing.
Thanks for letting me know -- I added it in. :-)
@@RoxanneRichardson you're welcome! ☺
I use this knot and even when tightened as much as possible yarn can still be pulled out of the pom pom.
Hi Clair, I’ve tried everything (except this knot). Have you found a solution? 💗
@@rebeccapfeifer2376 No solution yet. Nothing I have ever tried has knotted a pom pom tight enough to stop the yarn ends from being able to be pulled out.
Grade school we used cardboard to make....Thanks for the knot..
Actually that is called a Millers knot. Years ago I worked at a feed mill and we used it to tie the feed bags closed.
It has similarities to the miller's knot, but it is not the same.
I use zip ties no yarn coming out.
Sorry that did not work. Idk what I did i pulled the middle to see if stay in place and the yarn pulled out.. sad 😔
The next time I make a pom pom I am going to use this method. I’ve tried other techniques but they were - meh 🫤 Thanks for sharing.
