It's sad to watch the Fletcher's marriage fall apart from the sincere affection they had. I really appreciate that it wasn't a sudden thing, but built up to over 2 seasons. These things happen gradually then suddenly.
If Cromwell had become king, then why did he have King Charles I executed, and have England become a commonwealth? That they even thought of asking him to become King, they should have realized what a mistake those people had made at the beginning.
Brilliantly effective! Two great things which Cromwell should be remembered for - ending the slaughtering of Englishman by Englishman (as Royalists had repeatedly suffered major losses their numbers now were too few to be a threat) and declining the title of KING.
@@melissakrauss1266 various places over the years. A good one-volume history of the Tudors is G. R. Elton's. I am finishing Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror", about the 14th century (covers all of Europe). For earlier eras.

Cromwell was both a realist and a pragmatist, but, above all, a man of principle. A pity others did not imitate him.
England tired of military rule. Oliver Cromwell died the following year, 1658; his power did not outlive him. Charles II returned in May 1660.
Where did you get your information from? I am interested in English history, so I would like to get more information.
