If you're looking for colorful characters to photograph then the circus is the perfect place and in this video Gavin Hoey will show you how you can bring the circus into your home studio space.
Starting with tips for making a classic circus stripy background, Gavin goes to share lighting advice that can create color and controlled lens flare. But the tips don't stop there. After the shoot Gavin jumps into Photoshop to share how he processes one of final RAW files from the shoot.

Gavin, you are the reason I started photography. one day i chanced upon this channel and i was amazed how you took photos. after watching you for a month, i bought myself a camera and a flash, and started practicing what i learned. fun fact is, when i started out, i was doing strobist photos but i did not know how to shoot ambient. took me a year or so to finally learn how to shoot ambient. big thanks to you, Gavin. you may not know me, but you are my meantor. cheers!

I'm always impressed with the models and how they know what kind of pose to do for the camera. Of course, you do a great job directing them and capturing the image, but it always looks like a funky pose from the angle of the video cameras, but works well in the final images.

Gavin, what do you want to be when you grow up? Ha-ha!! Cool circus idea that any amateur photographer can make happen. I get so bored with all the beauty portraits that I see on Instagram, so your videos are always fun to watch. I happen to use the same lighting as you which makes it easier, and of course I also have a fog machine which I know you love to use. I am glad you work for Adorama, and hope you continue doing what you do because there are a lot of people out there like me that sure enjoy your work. Thanks!!

Nice photoshoot, it always amazes me how creative you are in coming up with new ideas. Do you still use your Godox/Evolve AD360 & AD180, or have you completely dumped them for the Godox/Evolve AD200?
Hi Jorn. My AD360 is the older 433mhz type and I love the 2.4ghz R2 Pro transmitter. So now I reach for the Evolv200 and the new Xplor400 first.
