When people are shooting at you and hitting you it probably isn't a good time to pop smoke and sit there still getting blasted. If I am shooting at something that smokes up I keep shooting until I am no longer hitting anything. You would be surprised how many times a player will sit there and let me send them to the bottom. "This guy ain't gonna move." lol When zig-zagging you have to actually leave your path so you stop getting hit. Zippering is the little squiggles a lot of players make. Zippering and zig-zagging are two different things. Zippering throws off aim when you are NOT being shot at. Zig-zagging takes you out of the shot path target area. Zippering keeps your ship in the target area.

He would have been sunk many times over if his opponents hadn't been so noob. "he go in position to need to go to have the cap" didn't you notice that he sailed out of the cap circle because he wasn't paying attention to his position?
