Candy companies are in the business to make money. If an item doesn't sell then they will no longer make that item. So, someone must like these candies or they would not still be around.

True. But they also have a very long shelf life and are easy to produce. My aunt told me of candies that they stop producing due to rising manufacturing costs. It did not help that their quality ingredients did not hold up well to climatic changes. One such candy was called butternut. She told me it was way better than the Snickers bar we have today. But the ingredients was too expensive to produce and the candy had a much shorter shelf life, which lead to it cancellation. So to answer your question, there more to why these candies still exist. I can go back to the 1980s as a small kid. There was this chocolate chip cookie. It was sold at the candy store. It put chips ahoy to shame and I love that brand, because there is nothing really to compare it to, but Amos. It literally tasted like vanilla ice cream when you bite into it. It wasn't chewy (I don't like cookies like that), but it definitely wasn't hard. It also didn't crumble like other cookies. It was sold in a roll for 50 cents and came in a dark package. Sadly, this cookie was short lived. I can tell that the company making them was having problems. It was how different the cookies would taste every time I brought them. Than it CAME! They were GONE! But next time I went into the store I thought I was buying the same roll of cookies. To my dismay, these cookies tasted worse than a family dollar cookie. (Although they are hard, they taste ok if you are bored). Think of those cookies they sell at the convenience or gas station store. Worse of the pack! So it is not only about it being good. It is more about the manufacturing, advertising and shelf life of these brands. And sometimes people will buy what is available to them, if a better option either does not exist or is too expensive to acquire.

I love Bit O Honeys, especially at the cinema. Good list - snacks/candies you only eat at the cinema/mall/ballpark! Also...hells yes Hot Tamales, or cinnamon bears, either way.
Me too! Think of Lucky Charms marshmallows only, no oat crunch. I always separate the marshmallows and save them for last after eating the crunchies of it.
My trick to eating milk duds is that I get them at the movie theater and I eat them with popcorn. The popcorn keeps it from sticking to your teeth and it’s delicious.

This is the rankest piece of candy snobbery I have ever encountered. These old-school sweets have many fond memories for us old Americans who rushed to the candy stores when we got our allowances to purchase our favorites. Milk Duds had the added benefit of helping kids get rid of pesky loose teeth.

When my dad was a kid they used to pull soft tar out of cracks to chew on. Yuck! Each generation has their favorites, and the mere fact that you can still find these older treats must indicate someone still likes them. And by the way: Necco wafers went on an arctic exploration many years ago because they keep well and provided energy. I like the chocolate ones, when you can find them!

I bought a 1 pound snickers bar from Amazon. I received it a week later in a completely wet box that anyone could’ve tampered with. I ate it regardless though because YOLO.

I hate licorice, especially black licorice. When some would always seem to end up in my bags, after trick or treating, i would usually throw them out, lol.
It amazes me how companies will discontinue a snack/candy people love in favor of really crappy ones that have been around for a century or more (and are still going!) I'm totally with you; Good & Plenty is THE WORST candy ever made & I actually liked black licorice for a time, but something about their recipe just brings back traumatic Easter basket memories. Like, who the hell is still buying that junk?
Circus Peanuts and Bit-O-Honey were always the scourge of Trick-or-Treaters back in the 60s. We just tossed them in the trash with the popcorn balls and candied apples.
Good & plenty is one of my all time favorites, along with Necco wafers, granted Dots are disappointing when they get old & hard, but I love them when they are fresh & chewy, "candy corn" are pretty bland, but are the iconic subject of the Captain Beefheart masterpiece song of the same name....("Kandy Korn")
Some candies are so hard, chewy, and/ or stick that even without dencers or permanent or not permanent teeth you still have a chance on break or ruining your teeth that way so I stay away from candies like laffy taffy and suckers even tho it’s a permanent tooth I still have a chance of losing it if I’m not careful
I'll defend milk duds and Bit-o-Honey. Candy Corn might be repaired if you added flavor. Maybe almond or hazelnut. Similarly, switch the banana flavor for orange and Circus Peanuts might work. Necco Wafers had several good flavors, and some dull ones too. They needed to sort them out. Especially as the good flavors are wonderful.
Same. I like black licorice. I fully believe it's genetic, kind of like how your genes determine if you like cilantro or if it tastes like soap. To me, cilantro is soapy.

@@BabbleTop Not really, as these are the worst in your opinion, but as you can tell from comments, there is a lot of disagreement. There are a lot of candies out there you could find that just might fill the bill, and you'll get a lot more people agreeing, although not everyone...
I bought a 1 pound snickers bar from Amazon. I received it a week later in a completely wet box that anyone could’ve tampered with.
I ate it regardless though because YOLO.
10. Tootsie Rolls: decent, enjoyable candies
9. Candy Corn: love it XP
8. Circus Peanuts: they were weird, mostly because of the texture.... but why did I like it?
7. Milk duds: I liked these but they dont stand out
6. Bit o Honey: ngl gonna be the last candy on the table I eat... but I still eat
5. Hot Tamels: love these - but they spice me out too fast
4. Dots: I love these.... until they get all stuck up in my teeth uck.... and then I eat more
3. Nekowafers: they taste like tums... but I like them both haha...
2. Candy buttons: yeah I'd pass on these tbh.. unless they were the only thing in front of me.
1. Good & Plenty: cant lie never eaten these or seen them but I do like licorice so I might like it?
Conclusion: I just like candy, I guess

My grandma’s favorite candy is Good and Plenty! People still like it, because for them it can be nostalgic.
It amazes me how companies will discontinue a snack/candy people love in favor of really crappy ones that have been around for a century or more (and are still going!)
I'm totally with you; Good & Plenty is THE WORST candy ever made & I actually liked black licorice for a time, but something about their recipe just brings back traumatic Easter basket memories. Like, who the hell is still buying that junk?
Circus Peanuts and Bit-O-Honey were always the scourge of Trick-or-Treaters back in the 60s. We just tossed them in the trash with the popcorn balls and candied apples.

Good & plenty is one of my all time favorites, along with Necco wafers, granted Dots are disappointing when they get old & hard, but I love them when they are fresh & chewy, "candy corn" are pretty bland, but are the iconic subject of the Captain Beefheart masterpiece song of the same name....("Kandy Korn")
Some candies are so hard, chewy, and/ or stick that even without dencers or permanent or not permanent teeth you still have a chance on break or ruining your teeth that way so I stay away from candies like laffy taffy and suckers even tho it’s a permanent tooth I still have a chance of losing it if I’m not careful
Tootsie Rolls are awesome. Not my go to but I do love them!

I'll defend milk duds and Bit-o-Honey. Candy Corn might be repaired if you added flavor. Maybe almond or hazelnut. Similarly, switch the banana flavor for orange and Circus Peanuts might work. Necco Wafers had several good flavors, and some dull ones too. They needed to sort them out. Especially as the good flavors are wonderful.

I have childhood memories with circus peanuts. I grew up very poor so I would ask my dad for loose change so I would go to the corner store and buy circus peanuts for $0.05 each and boy did I enjoy them and still do.
She said dots are like chewing on diamonds lol thats if you freeze them and hot tamales are not spicy and good and plenty are not spicy but and i like all the candies
