This 320bhp Astra VXR is UNDERRATED!

- In this video, I go for a spin in a 320bhp Vauxhall Astra VXR. This is actually my first time going out in an Astra VXR, and this one was far from a standard example, running quite a few mods which I will list below. I have actually been out in a friends standard Corsa VXR plenty of times but the Astra feels like a much more complete car to me, and is actually quite underrated in my opinion. I'm not sure if that due to the particular mods on this car as I can't comment on the Astra VXR in it's standard guise, but I was very impressed by this particular example. At 320bhp, it felt like a nice useable amount of power to have fun without it being out of control or too much for the road. It also sounded great with the 3 inch custom turbo back exhaust, the power delivery was nice and linear and fairly lag free, but still had the surge and torquey feeling you would expect from a turbo petrol. I was also very impressed by the handling of the car and it just seemed to stick to the road and felt very composed and hunkered down. One of the common known problems with these VXR's is the M32 gearbox, however the owner has uprated the bearings in the gearbox and gets the gearbox oil changed every year and has never had any issues with the box, even when it was standard. The last thing I will mention is the seats, which not only look the part are rather comfortable and supportive, and the overall interior isn't too bad in my opinion, far superior to that of a Corsa. Nice looking example!!! Nice to see 1 being looked after👌 and the dna lights look sick. I have them on my arden blue astra along with the blue smd conversion inside makes the car look more modern. It looks like it runs well who mapped it? Mine is running 290bhp and this looks a touch quicker but that exhaust would be to loud for me. These cars have a bad reputation but this proves that a clean example with a few tasteful mods can look nice and with coilovers and a rarb can handle quite well too

Is this engine not forged from factory? Z20leh engine the z20let on the older model gsi isn’t forged
@Evan Enright As far as I know they weren't forged from factory no, however I'm sure I've heard that the Corsa VXR Nurburgring engines are.

Do like my Astra VXRs had 2 of them now and converted my old 1.4 to VXR Spec as well. Think they get bit to much shit, I got a fairly standard car though its on the high side of miles at 175K miles :)
@UKWaffles That's awesome, great to hear! 175k miles is good going :) and yeah they definitely seem to be get too much stick, they're not perfect by any means but then what car is?!
@@jordanclarkson2010 Yea, I do like the VXRs still I don't see a lot around me. A lot of cars do seem to get shit but just look after them and they will be fine. Yea my VXR is a bit of a shed but I am slowly fixing it up. I daily drive my car 62 miles a day for work and done about 3K miles so far and no 1 issue yet. Yea the gearboxes can be a worry but get the gen 2 end case and bearings done it will last, I had a diff in my last one too and it was fine at around 300HP
@UKWaffles Yeah same here. Same with most cars really it all depends how you treat it. That's quite a commute to do in a VXR, good to hear it's been problem free 👍 The owner of this one had the gearbox bearings uprated but said even with the standard ones he never had an issue with them.
@@jordanclarkson2010 Yea, a lot of people over fill the oil in the gearbox and replace the bearings. Got to pay attenton gives you enough of a warning anyway when the shifter starts moving, when itstarts jumping out of gears your pretty fucked though
You have 175000 in a vxr ? I hope mine reaches that as I do try to look after and maintain it the best I can .on 290bhp and staying with that as a safe power
