In the "Get in the hole" video, Doug Crosby (Steve) is said to be extremely intelligent. His mental capacity to judge a fight seems really off though. Either he isn't intelligent enough to judge fights correctly or his arrogance was so great that he thought he could get away with manipulating a fight outcome to serve some inside betting scheme.

Steve seems like the kind of guy told his niece it would be no problem and talked it up and it kept growing and growing...then he was mad that he handled it wrong but doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to process it like an adult. Always great stories Chael, Steve is the bad guy in this story. I don’t know you personally but nothing about you says “I’m better than you” so it’s more about his insecurities than any deficiencies he says you have.

I remember an old Joe Rogan podcast from a few years back, where Chael he said something along the lines of "i wish that i could do what you are doing and talk to guests about everyday topics rather than just MMA" Chael basically saying that he had to stay in his lane as his following was not big enough to allow him to venture outside of talking about what he was famous for. I'm very glad that sitting on 354k subscribers, Chael is not only talking about anything and everything on his channel, he doesn't even need a guest to have riveting content. I could sit and listen to these stories for hours. Great work sir.
I'm sure you won't even see this but I've been in similar positions and you just have to hope they transcend their own insecurities and stop projecting them on others who actually get off their arse and make decisions in a complex reality. You're not the bad guy. I always found you entertaining in mma and you were never bad even when playing the heel. Your tongue was firmly in cheek and I think most people respected that. More so than that, since you retired you always come across as honest and you don't go out of your way to toot your own horn even if you're not afraid of taking credit where it's due. Most impressive of all... I've heard many stories of your generosity in private told by people who knew you'd never boast about it yourself and just wanted to give you credit because you earned it. I'm certain there are many more untold examples. You'll always come across these types and hearing your story reminds me not to take them too seriously. Reasonable people can see the truth. Don't get dragged into their fight. They're on their own journey in life and we can wish them the best of luck. When they live and learn it will be easy to forgive.

I would have NEVER made that call to Chris Jericho.I would’ve told Steve right away that it’s not likely to happen because those are favors that are typically granted to close family and friends. Then I would’ve reiterated that you and Chris Jericho are acquaintances and are not that close. (Whether you really are or not). If he would’ve persisted, I would’ve just told Steve that I’ll try, and left it at that. Then later on, I would’ve simply sent Steve a text telling him that Chris Jericho never responded to you. And that would’ve been the end.

Chael is a genuinely cool and down to earth guy. About four years ago there was a TH-cam video that said text Chael and wish him luck on his next fight. I sent a text saying I doubt this is Chael but if so good luck. Five minutes later my phone rings and the caller ID showed the number I just text and it was Chael calling me back to thank me for the text.

With that being said, I feel you should’ve sent a “Jericho isn’t going to be able to do it” text at least a few hours in advance of the PPV. You definitely didn’t deserve to be told off though.
