  • I try to shed a bit of light on which is better on the trail - lightweight EVA, or durable PU.

Yeah sure, EVA foam soles do compress over time, but they will last a lot longer than a PU shoe. PU starts to crack and crumble over time unfortunately

Polyurethane shoes suck. I have the boots in the back left and the soles completely disintegrated. Plus the boots weight about 5 lbs each.

Useless. No even a word about PU soles falling a part very fast when not worn.

All soles falls apart in storage except hand sewn leather shoes.

Good review but the thing is EVA which is also injected phylon last longer than Polyurethane which crumbles after 6 to 10 years

6 to 10 years? Are you kidding me? People buy things to last a year at the most these days

Nah fam, u ain't into sneaker community if u think that way lmao, we buy and take care of things not just fuck them up and that is why injected Phylon is made for it to last longer than Poly, and why would you buy something that would only last a year if u can buy that last for a long time dumbass

@@seanroby4949 What I was saying is that the lifespan of any footwear is way shorter than 6 to 10 years at this day and age

They're going to crumble if you don't wear them enough and leave em in your wardrobe, and it's even worst when they're exposed to humidity.

For running and jogging shoes, eva is light and more comfortable. Won't last long. Will degrade fast even in storage Make sure u use often.
For hiking, better to use PU foam.

I bought PU midsoles on the Meindl top of the line hiking boots. Then 5 years later the midsoles crumbled away and the soles fell off. They cannot be properly resoled. I wish I knew about this before buying.

I was most interested in the thermal differences between EVA n PU from both the outside in and inside out perspectives for the winter/summer angle. I'm guessing PU is more thermal due to its higher density and would therefore keep road temp from reaching your foot as quickly but likewise would hold foot heat and increase sweatiness? Density doesn't always tell the tale, materials and air volume trapped can also play a role. Any thoughts?

I actually watched this hoping you would discuss about comfort? Which is more comfortable over distance?

Hi, I've been selling hiking footwear for 2 years now. At first glance, EVA boots might seem more comfortable but for longer distance they become less comfortable due to the fact that they're not as sturdy as PU boots, but it always depends on the density.

@@Polnareff. thanks, I must confess I have to refresh how to spot the difference visually between the two... Cheers
