Wow! The cadenza at the end was the most fiery and probably the best I have ever heard. His face is so expressive I feel his emotion with him, drawing me deep inside the bitter-sweet poetry of the music. And the first notes at the start were so commanding, saying, 'don't worry, I've got this one'.
@@okeen5265 It's not simply a "repeat". It's not the same as reading a novel. He fully respects Chopin's writing while incorporating his own color. His interpretation is undoubtedly genius.
It is the first time you fall in love. The first time your heart breaks. The first time you fly; you break a bone. You laugh, you cry...you live, you die. Thank you Mr. Chopin. We humans are forever indebted for your contribution.
An absolute joy to listen to. He easily could have gotten first. But IMO all of the top 5 as well as K.Ksiazek (who didnt make it to the finals) could have won
Terrific performance. It stands comparison with the immortal version by Dinu Lipatti, which is very high praise indeed. Best of luck in your international career, Eric! I hope to see you in person some day.
I think he must have had a laps of concentration there because there is also some wrong note grazing just after 7.12. Having said that I think overall the piece is wonderfully played on the best Yamaha I have ever heard!
I would not say none, or lazy, but it is slightly let down compared with many others. Some however do it with even more of a dropoff. I bet this is how he conceives it, actually. I have heard this kid play it with much less polish, but yes, performing is tough. Has anyone here heard Haftman?
As I was listening up until that point I was thinking, “wow this is absolutely perfect!” and then THAT…Overall it was beautiful and I will definitely find myself listening to Eric Lu’s interpretation of this piece, a flawless performance at that one ;). Shouldn’t be hard to find!
Eric is telling a story with his beautiful singing tone. He is a poet of the piano. A very talented pianist. All the best Eric in your career.
Poet? You know he didn't write it...right? lol it was a pretty good rendition though.
jolanta omari, absolutely agreed - he’s such an incredible poet on the instrument. Well done, Eric
He is in the boat with this beautiful memories. I love his Barcarolle~
The most beautiful performance of this remarkable piece ever performed!!
Eric has such natural timing. Truly a "dreamy" Barcarolle!
A new great pianist in the world ! Bravissimo Lu !!!
Definitely one of the Best performance I have heard for this piece!!!!
Best barcarolle i've ever heard in the Chopin competitions. True emancipation of its essence.
he is so relax when he is playing, so light and clair version :-) fantastic, he is making me dreaming. great, thanks Eric :)
Gorgeous interpretation. Full of feeling and subtlety. I think Chopin would have been very happy to hear his music being played so beautifully.
I agree. It was brilliant, sensitive, healthy, exciting.
Such a genius! His great music add beautiful colors into my life..
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🌹
His performance is so great! This piece makes me confortable when I walk in Paris at night.
Thank you Eric...Your heavenly touch is inspiring and uplifting the soul.
It was very, very ,very beautiful !
Marvelous !

Eric is my favourite for this piece, he is superb
The most beautiful and moving of any I have listened to
And played on the best Yamaha I have ever heard!
WOW! What a gift to us, Eric is!
He touches the keys and instantly transports me to that gloomy dream world ❤
So gentle and calm, beautiful legato cantabile. Sublime and dreamy.
Bella interpretación , llena de encanto, elegancia y poesía !
Wow!! I loved his playing and I love this piece. Wow!
A very beautiful performance, the best I've heard

A performance of great sensitivity and exceptional maturity.
What a rich and delicate play; can’t take this interpretation out of my head
So beautiful. One of my favorites. Bravo, Eric
Love this. What a beautiful interpretation!?
Fire, flare, and passion. Bravo
His playing of this song reminds me of the joy chopins berceuse op.57 in d flat major beings me. Pure sweetness.
Brilliant interpretation...BRAVO!!!!
This young man has a great future. What a wonderful performer.
beautiful!
PIEKNE! IM HAPPY , THANKS,
7:45 if there ever were a passage of music to be defined at "ethereal" Chopin surely composed it right at this moment. Simply awe-inspiring.
He has such control over the dynamics and legato of every voice
Such a genius..
Genius is writing it.. Good performer though.
@@okeen5265 Genius interpretation of a genius composition.
@@Algorox Genius requires novel thought and creativity. It was a great performance. But simply repeating what someone else wrote is not genius..

@@Algorox Nah.. You're giving that term out too easily.
colorful and sweet!
Heavenly.
Incredible!!
So ethereal, the aria was beautiful.
Go Eric!
Cudownie!
Quality playing. I liked his middle section better than the opening but it grew on me as he went along.
Amazing performance
Exquisite piece, exquisite Chopin, exquisite performance.
Simply the best!

For me, he was the winner of the competition.

8:18 oh man I will never be able to play the cadenza like that

Very good!!
Eric should have won !! X
Amazing kid!
Simplesmente Maravilhoso.
Amazing!....Indeed, a poem..
Yes I agree with the comments here.... very good... would sound different on other top brands...
Superb
OH WOW!!!
WUNDERBAR..
Fabulous!
BRAVO. BRAVO. BRAVO.

Best performance
Verdi poaching from Chopin, Simon Boccanegra Come in quest'ora brune
Feels like the sound comes from heaven
heavy on the angelic - like that.!
just a wee bit more expression towards the end - maybe ... apart from that... glorious..
best.
Yes, very nice, much better than Aimi's and actually a very fine performance!
♡♡♡👏👏👏
6:03
I love how he does not even look at the piano
ahh....a wee bit loose on the end...
Barcarolle of happy
yup
yes yes yes
His music is similar to Zimmerman's Barcarolle
B R A W O !!!
He shoulda won the competition
Man.. 7:12 was just lazy. He had no energy at that crucial section in my opinion.
I unfortunately have to agree. Remember However performing is tough...
you mean he should be huffing and puffing like Zimerman?
I think he must have had a laps of concentration there because there is also some wrong note grazing just after 7.12. Having said that I think overall the piece is wonderfully played on the best Yamaha I have ever heard!

fantastic(^-^)v
That part at 5:25..
he reminds me of another young Chinese pianist Hao Chen Zhang.
+Shu Guice Haochen is absolutely great!
我同意
That guy is quite the accomplished pianist; I do not think it is comparable yet (www.classical-scene.com/2016/05/16/hoachen-zhang-jordan/).
I can’t find Chopin here. Anybody knows where he is ???
He got robbed at this competition. He was the only one playing Chopin instead of competing like a racehorse.
That part at 5:20 though
he made a mistake but I found his playing Bacarolle op.60 nice - really soft, and emotional.
Those facial gestures have to go though.
Nope.
Why?
