    I think the first movie captures the best how it felt like reading the books as a child, there's this magical atmosphere and the music goes really well together with the story

    I believe the production values were so great in the Harry Potter franchise because JK Rowling kept contractual control on how it was filmed. Not that she made EVERY decision, but that a lot had to be run past her for approval.
    JK Rowling took 17 years to write most of the Harry Potter book series. This was NOT a 'write one book, market test it, if it does well then write the next sequel' type of thing; Rowling wrote out more than half of the series, with each book acting more like chapters in a saga than separate books. She researched, wrote, edited, re-edited, and went back and forth to work out when and where and how to introduce plot devices and essential clues. She had more than half written and the remainder already diagramed before she took it to a publisher. She also took care to have each book's publishing spaced a year apart and maintained control over her intellectual product.
    Rowling had approval over scriptwriting, set design, costuming to an extent, and even had input over casting. I'm sure she would not have let filming go forward without a proper budget to do the story properly. When there were issues, the producers and directors went to Rowling to problem-solve and to prioritize, letting some things go (like Harry's green eyes when Radcliffe had a bad reaction to contact lenses) that were of lesser importance to the story.
    Part of the genius of Rowling's writing was the increase in reading level and maturity of the material with each successive book. Basically, the books kept pace with the target audience, who would be a year older with each publication. As a result, the stories get darker and more mature as time went on. As the readership entered adolescence, each year reflected their experiences and concerns. And the genius of the films is that the films did the same thing, becoming darker and more mature. You may be watching a 'kids movie' right now, but the final film is more danger-filled.
    Yes, this film is a great introduction to the Wizarding World, which continues to expand with each film. The world-building is exceptional. There's actually quite a bit of historical research that went into Rowling's work; it's not all 'imagination', as it's actually very logically based on real facts. The majority of things mentioned in the film derive from historical documents. Sure, 'magic' isn't 'real', but there were times when educated minds were taught that magic WAS real. The main imaginative step from history to fantasy is positing that magic functions according to specialized physics. There is a very rich background that this story springs from.
    Rowling wrote the novels that other scriptwriters adapted to the Harry Potter franchise. For the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise, Rowling wrote the script (Redmayne has said she does an incredible job in scene and motivation description). She has since written the stage pay for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", which played London's West End and New York's Broadway. Currently, "Cursed Child" is being filmed for release in 2025. Only the initial Harry Potter saga has been published in book form.

      I read somewhere (and I don’t know if it’s true) that they put Ron on the statue because this scene was filmed later than the others and Rupert had a growth spurt between filming. That made him noticeably taller than Daniel and Emma when he was standing with them. True or not-I don’t know.

    Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter.
    The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
    The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells.
    The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch.
    And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess.
    Side notes:
    The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits:
    Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry.
    Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
    Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
    Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.
    Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward.
    Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra.
    At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.

      The movies get darker and better as they go. Each book/movie covers one school year. Movies 7 & 8 split book 7. It took 10 years to film the 8 movies so the actors play close to their real ages. Also by the later movies, it is quit obvious the kids did not waste their time spending literally half their lives working and learning from some of the UK's greatest actors. The reason most muggles don't see magic happening around them is sometimes attributed to protective spells having been places on objects or places so that regular none magical folks can't see or notice them. For example, Hogwarts is a massive castle located in the highlands of Scotland. But when muggles come across it they only see old ancient empty castle ruins. If muggles find themselves getting too close to it then suddenly the muggles will start to think they have someplace important they have to go to that they previously forgotten about.
    In rare other cases when a muggle happens to witness magic by mistake, the local wizarding government called The Ministry of Magic will come and magically erase that particular memory from the muggle's mind.
    Certain cases are allowed only to a certain extent, like in the case of a wizard or witch having been born from a muggle family or is being raised by a muggle family like Harry and the Dursleys for example. But even then the wizarding child is not allowed to perform magic even in front of their muggle family even though their muggle family members know about their relative being born a witch or wizard and that they attend Hogwarts.
    The Wizarding communities consider it vital that their existence remain a secret for their protection incase for example muggles decide to bring back the witch trials and start burning wizards at the stake again among many other reasons as well.

    Welcome to the incrediblely wonderful rabbit hole of a ride called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Enjoy it well. 😊
    This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses;
    "Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
    But don't judge on what you see,
    I'll eat myself if you can find
    A smarter hat than me.
    You can keep your bowlers black,
    Your top hats sleek and tall,
    For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
    And I can cap them all.
    There's nothing hidden in your head
    The Sorting Hat can't see,
    So try me on and I will tell you
    Where you ought to be.
    You might belong in Gryffindor,
    Where dwell the brave at heart,
    Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
    Set Gryffindors apart;
    You might belong in Hufflepuff,
    Where they are just and loyal,
    Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
    And unafraid of toil;
    Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
    if you've a ready mind,
    Where those of wit and learning,
    Will always find their kind;
    Or perhaps in Slytherin
    You'll make your real friends,
    Those cunning folks use any means
    To achieve their ends.
    So put me on! Don't be afraid!
    And don't get in a flap!
    You're in safe hands (though I have none)
    For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
    🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️🪄✨⚡🖤
    BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor and my brother was sorted into Slytherin in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website. The website was created by the Sony company and the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. I had to take a fun and special personality test to find out what house I am in.

    There are no best or worst Hogwarts houses. Every house has good trait qualities. If a student is good or bad, it is because of the choices they personally made in life. Not because of the house they are in.
    They never explained it in any of the movies, but Harry did meet several good Slytherins while also meeting several bad people from the other houses as well.
    So it makes no difference what house you are sorted into. It is the choices that we make in life that determines who we are. 🏰😉👍

    • @lukasr5867
      @lukasr5867 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you mean good ex-Slytherins (as in grown-ups who used to be in that house), I'd agree. I don't remember any "good" Sly students during Harry's time that we meet, though (even in the books). I think there is an interesting point regarding the bad wizards from Slytherin and the other houses: It seems like people with Slytherin-traits would be most tempted to be Death Eaters, while those of other houses more tempted towards other "bad" paths of life. So while probably each house produces some morally bad wizards, those of Slytherin stand out (at least during the time of these books / movies) by joining together into a group around Voldy. Which on one hand enables them to live out their "badness" to a greater level than others and also makes them more visible to society in general, thus they (and by extension their house) are generally viewed as the big bad.

      Right? God forbid there be places for women who have been abused and are living in women's shelters and feel uncomfortable or panic because they're being forced to be in the same safe spaces as people with full on male parts. We all just get called "Terfs" or "phobic" for.. you know, caring about that. Or not wanting to called a "menstruating person". I feel like there's plenty of people who don't even look into what she ACTUALLY SAID and WHY she said them before calling her names and just hear what other people are saying she said. I mean, I've been there. I've lived in women's shelters after being abused and THE LAST thing I would have wanted while recovering was to have to share restrooms and other facilities with men. Regular women are being *completely* left behind when it comes to shelters, prisons and athletics.

    it's a pity that you guys felt the need to condemn JK Rowling for her views about transgenderism, which are views held by the majority of the population in her country and also across the west (men cannot be women, women cannot be men). in recent years, the medical associations in nordic countries have prohibited puberty blocking and transition for minors and the UK's own Cass Review also concluded the medical evidence is unsatisfactory. i'm not trying to change your minds, but i figured if you felt it appropriate to comment on her views then i am also free to reply with my own. i really enjoy your reactions to arrested development keep up the good work.

      Being trans is a fucking HUMAN RIGHT. EVERY human being has the right to identify as ANY gender they want to identify as just like they can freely pick their sexuality. Trans people are peaceful people like you and me. They pay taxes like you and me. They contribute to society like you and me. Transphobia is a CRIME just like homophobia or racism. Its basically all the same thing. Transphobia is NOT a harmless "opinion" and those criminals like Rowling need to be called out for that. Trans people have to live in fear because of dipshits like her

    Let’s bash JK Rowling, the creator of these movies, but let’s profit from her work by making reaction videos from it. Typical liberal grifters. Ewww

    A few comments.
    This is the least good film in the series, it is too long and while the visuals are great, the waste a lot of talent. John Cleese is wasted and so are man others.
    Columbus directed the first two, and David Yates came in directed 5-8.
    Yates Tarzan movie is... fine...
    Columbus wrote Gremlins, Joe Dante directed it.
    I do think you are wrong about Rowling, but that is an entirely different discussion, not worth to have here.
    It was fun to see you get into this series though and I hope you like the others in the series.

      @@bw24summit True, but I would also argue that the two scenes he does get aren't much fun as they are either.
