  • This video is a chat about the book Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami. I read the English translation by Phillip Gabriel published in the US by Alfred A. Knopf in 2014. Also discussed is Le mal du pays by Franz Liszt from Annes de Pelerinage (Years of Pilgrimage Suite). The Lazar Berman and Alfred Brendel recordings are mentioned. This piece is a recurring theme throughout the book.

Your take away from this book, "connection and reality" is a great! If some of the characters took a different path, their lives would turn out differently. Or reality would be altered. It's a fascinating concept and Murakami always crafts a great story for his concepts! How you connect this book to 1Q84 is fascinating! I never considered that one! I've only read these 2 books by him and The Strange Library. Fabulous review!
Petrarch Sonnet 147.... I've got to read that. Murakami is brilliant!! Thanks for such a great review!

Oops! I misspoke on the video... it was Petrarch's Sonnet 47 not 147 by Liszt that began to play as the book ended. I'm so glad you enjoyed the chat. It's always nice to bump into another Murakami fan! I've got Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973 on my TBR this year so chats on those will be coming up once I get them read. Thanks for the nice comment :)

I'm planning to eventually work my way through them all. If he links his books up and is crafting a multi-book universe, that would be awesome! He's a master storyteller, so he'd be great at it.

Agreed! I will definitely read all of his works eventually. And then probably re-read them...lol. I've read Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World twice and could easily pick it up now, read it again and still find it magical (not sure if magical is the right word, but couldn't think of a better one offhand)

I haven't read those 2. I'm super new to Murakami. I found 1Q84 to be a page turner! It's an amazing feat for an 1100 page book ^.^

I know what you mean... I adored 1Q84 and seems like it just flew by...lol. Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is my favorite so far I would say, but I've not been disappointed with any of them to date :)
