I have the original XR pro, got mine in 2012. Looks pretty much the same, except as the original Mongoose logo on the head tube which is pretty cool. Looks like they upgraded the cranks on yours. The cranks was one of the first things I'm blew out on mine, I replace my cranks and bottom bracket 9 years ago, but I remember the bottom bracket being kind of cheap although I never had a problem with it, I seem to remember it not having sealed bearings.
Hahaha we are excited as well. When you say full suspensions are easier than hard tails, what do you mean? Are you talking about upgrading or riding? Thanks man👍

Forgot about today! I agree with you, dont worry about headtube angle. Its better to get slacker, but years ago 71 degree was normal and everone was good with it. I think the worst thing is them bikes are only like 34mm headset, still usable with straight tube fork

We don't mean anything against you or any of the commenters on either of our channels, but we find it funny as hell when people want to get caught up on head tube angles on bikes this cheap. If we were spending thousands of dollars on the bike itself then we get it, but we are not. If we ever say something on a video or comment something that you feel uncomfortable with just shoot us an email, and we can figure it out and make sure it wasn't taken the wrong way. We are pretty thick skinned people coming from being in the mma business for 30 years, but we also love to bust balls. We love that you also enjoy a good triggering every now and then😂. Finally a non-KevCentral Mongoose XR Pro video after years!! 🤣 The only thing I don't like about this thing is the head tube... Even Schwinn changed to tapered on almost all it's bikes while this stayed the same 3-4 years later... Still, long live the FS king!! 😁

I might wrong but I believe this is just the old XR Pro that they either had inventory laying around or it is just reissued/re-released. Something along those lines. Sorry if I missed that mentioned in the video.

so watching your video on the unboxing MONGOOSE XR PRO 29 and you said could going to swop out the rear from a 29x2.10 to a 2.40 size tire. I set up my rear wheel with a MAXXIS FOREKASTER CROSS COUNTRY 29x2.35 and it fit perfect with room to spare. Also I am running a MAXXIS MONION DHF 29X2.30 on the front fork. both these tire set up work great where I live I ride on loose dirt and hard pack trails. Also I found some other MAXXIS 29" in the 2.30 size too that with work on you build up on your mongoose bike too.

Name of the game with the XR PRO is the frame. This is one of the most reviewed bikes in biking history, and its a monster frameset for a budget trail bike. Strip it, build it and get the weight down is the direction you should take. The frame is worth the build. Its a cheap quality build if you know where to look, and expensive if you dont. Wheelsets with quality hubs are under 100 bucks just about everywhere. DNM aoy36c shock, Suntour epixon 120mm travel, Carbon bars, Wheelset, groupset of your choice 1x9 with lightweight cassette 50th or 52. All for under1k. I forgot to mention hydraulic disc brakes, and tubeless tires.
Your channel has helped me so much with my own aggressor! I can't wait to head out to the trails here soon. Probably could use some new pedals for it though! I went with the ifx cranks! I'd love to be entered in your drawing. Cant wait to see how this bike turns out.
Good question Jaime. You know this is a hard one, because we have only had the XR Pro for a short time and the GT for a few years. We are partial to the GT for many reasons including but not limited to the quality, durability, several frame sizes to choose from, and the No Sweat Protection Plan offered by Dick's when you by a GT from them. We paid $60 dollars for a 3 year plan that covers everything except theft I believe. Hope this helps.

You know even though your knocking on the head tube angle it is what probably what aided the axum the most on the timed downhill run when you compared it to the ascension.
You may be right, not necessarily knocking on the headtube angle, we get it but...When people start to worry more about the fork offset and headtube angle when they cant even ride seems funny us. Especially those who dont even have a bike! Lol just not us but who knows man in the future it may be something we may need to sharpen up on as I am sure people like you would like to know the specifics, especially those who can ride and understand like you obviously do.👍👍 Thanks!

I almost have decent upgrades......But you find it worth it? I think of sell it and get and 1K bike second hand better with conic headtube and 12x142mm stuff like that
Man it all depends, you could get a cheaper bike and build it up and really upgrade as you learn and grow, or an even cheaper used bike with good parts you can transfer to a better frame in the future.
Good luck with the Suntour crank, it might be a stupid cut for the middle ring and u can't fit an off the shelf 104BCD chainring! It happened to me so screw Suntour! I went Shimano and the fitments are perfect. But definitely try and fit a Snail chainring to the crank and see if it fits!

I wonder what the bars are made of. The bars on my Boundary were steel. Throw on some Carbon or aluminum bars, change it to a 1x, and you might be at 35lbs or less.
Dude the stem bars and entire frame are aluminum!! We mention it in tomorrow's video. I think a new fork plus lighter tires will hopefully get us were we need to be, oh and plus a new rear shock!! Hopefully we can get her down to atleast 31???

Btw I love the video on the gt aggressor. It's the bike I bought and have slowly been upgrading. Group set and fork are pretty much all I need. I'm going to be doing a few aesthetic changes that will also lighten up my unsprung weight. And just so you know the bike in its stock configuration will survive down kitsuma, if you have a little bit of riding skill, just fine. Great bike to start off on. I came from BMX racing so GT was kind of on the list. For me I know that they have solid bikes across the range. This one made it through 19 miles of torture with me and if I can I'm going to keep it for a while.

DNM shocks are good. I have one on my classic 1998 Specialized Stumpjumper. I'm pretty sure Kev Central put one on his Mongoose XR Pro.
I have one on my 2007 schwinn s40 and so far its working great

If you were a casual rider and had the option between the XR Pro and the GT Aggressor Pro. Which would you go with?
Good question Jaime. You know this is a hard one, because we have only had the XR Pro for a short time and the GT for a few years. We are partial to the GT for many reasons including but not limited to the quality, durability, several frame sizes to choose from, and the No Sweat Protection Plan offered by Dick's when you by a GT from them. We paid $60 dollars for a 3 year plan that covers everything except theft I believe. Hope this helps.

You know even though your knocking on the head tube angle it is what probably what aided the axum the most on the timed downhill run when you compared it to the ascension.
You may be right, not necessarily knocking on the headtube angle, we get it but...When people start to worry more about the fork offset and headtube angle when they cant even ride seems funny us. Especially those who dont even have a bike! Lol just not us but who knows man in the future it may be something we may need to sharpen up on as I am sure people like you would like to know the specifics, especially those who can ride and understand like you obviously do.👍👍 Thanks!

Man it all depends, you could get a cheaper bike and build it up and really upgrade as you learn and grow, or an even cheaper used bike with good parts you can transfer to a better frame in the future.

Good luck with the Suntour crank, it might be a stupid cut for the middle ring and u can't fit an off the shelf 104BCD chainring! It happened to me so screw Suntour! I went Shimano and the fitments are perfect. But definitely try and fit a Snail chainring to the crank and see if it fits!

Put some locktite on the rear bushings screws,before ride that bike,they get loose by themselves thanks to the rear shock.

I wonder what the bars are made of. The bars on my Boundary were steel. Throw on some Carbon or aluminum bars, change it to a 1x, and you might be at 35lbs or less.
Dude the stem bars and entire frame are aluminum!! We mention it in tomorrow's video. I think a new fork plus lighter tires will hopefully get us were we need to be, oh and plus a new rear shock!! Hopefully we can get her down to atleast 31???

I 've had the 2017 Mongoose Teocali 27.5 ... $ 2000.00 Mongoose. Unfortunately it got stolen. It broke my heart, I really loved that bike .
In the rear im sure the chain would limit wheel size

The mongoose is a nice looking thing, love the colour! Seems well specced too, top tubes a little close to the old jewelry for my liking Jeremiah! 😂😂 Never got on with the preload on my old suntour, didn't seem to really make any difference.

Btw I love the video on the gt aggressor. It's the bike I bought and have slowly been upgrading. Group set and fork are pretty much all I need. I'm going to be doing a few aesthetic changes that will also lighten up my unsprung weight. And just so you know the bike in its stock configuration will survive down kitsuma, if you have a little bit of riding skill, just fine. Great bike to start off on. I came from BMX racing so GT was kind of on the list. For me I know that they have solid bikes across the range. This one made it through 19 miles of torture with me and if I can I'm going to keep it for a while.
