I understand your frustration. I recently bought another JD tractor. I went out of my way to research and buy one that was pre-emissions (Tier 0?) and had very low hours on it. Hard to find, but I finally found one with 200+ hours on it. No only no emissions garbage, but no computer to fail. They potentially can last a life-time.
In 2003 I used I bought a new Takeuchi TL150 track loader (again, pre-emissions) and recently was looking to find another with low hours. A low hour model is incredibly hard to find, so I will bide my time and wait. A good piece of equipment should arguably last a lifetime if you are willing and able to rebuild it when time comes. I really hate what the EPA has done to the diesel engine market. And no, I do not think it affects the environment significantly.
    Stay safe!

You are absolutely right! In addition, research has shown that they probably clean away the large particles that were actually not so dangerous, but that they now emit more microscopic particles that are incredibly harmful in many ways, plus that diesel engines now emit CO2 that used to be bound in carbon as " polluted "
Ok in cities but in sparsely populated areas it fertilized nature instead of today's much more dangerous exhaust fumes...

I’m glad you kept it. We’re all human and these were your thoughts at the time. Hopfully you’ll have better luck with it in the future. It is a big deal for most people. Not everyone has your mechanic background either. That bill from a kubota dealer would have been rather large as well. Good stuff man

Commenting for my husband here...This video and your dpf cleaning video have been a real help for our company making a living with only two machines. Our 90-2 with 4500 hrs started blowing black smoke of the dpf assembly near the turbo /catalytic side. Decided to clean the dpf per your video to find the pipe entering the cat broken loose from both ends with pieces blown out around it. That cat is a $3.3k part unless my I can find a used one. But to your bracket issues, ours has cracked three time in three different places that we've welded up. I believe the vibration that cracked the bracket worked its way through to the cat causing the failure. Now to check that exhaust bolt! Thanks loads for the time you take to document and instruct.

I am a retired millwright turbine mechanic (36 years) retired for 6 years and I have certainly had my share of frustation. I feel your pain and I must say I am impressed with your self control and lack of expletetives. I agree there is some lousy engineering on this machine which is common these days with global suppliers trying to find cheap engines they can adapt to their machines. Most of the time they were designed for a completely different application. I am currently in the market for a skid steer and I love the door on the Kubotas, but videos like yours have me a bit shy of this brand. Did you do anything to help alleviate the intial problem with the manifold? GOD bless you and thanks for the video.

I was the service manager at a Kubota and Bobcat Dealer. Kubota engines were always top of the line, with a lot of other equipment manufacturers using them. Seems like emission add ons are their downfall as with all engines. But the rest of the Kubota and Bobcat machines do not have the reliability or longevity that some other machines have. My opinion is that Kubota and Bobcat are both more suited for non commercial use. When our salesmen did manage to sell a Kubota or Bobcat to a commercial user or a municipality, they seemed to have the most failures. I owned a Kubota compact tractor and a Bobcat skid steer. I had good luck with both, but I am not a commercial user.

We had a Kubota B6000 4x4 mini tractor which pulled a chunk out the Alloy Diff case where the bottom link arm pinned on !!! - we were grading with a rear grader blade which snagged on a Girder stump buried in the concrete floor !!- i finished up re-engineering the link arms to Category 2 pins and beefing up the mounting to more points! guess anything breaks with enough force though !!

The engineers behind a lot of this stuff are under the gun for compact, lighter, smaller etc so everything gets more and more cramped inside the bay. The days of popping a hood on my 90 gt and thinking "hey I can fit inside there with the 5.0 are over.
Look at exotics and German cars its insane how they try to stuff everything inside every nook. It makes me not want to work on anything.

I watched this video and held my tongue because I was a skid steer mechanic and I feel your pain.
I have worked for komatsu, Case ,IH , Cat and Kubota. First of all thats very same engine is in half the S180 and T180 Bobcats that you all are saying are great and he should switch too. The difference is the engine is mounted sideways so the emissions crap (which I don’t think is really doing anything in this size of machine and is just mucking you the engine ) is located in a different spot and was added on later to meet compliance standards for the industry. So it was made up and added by a different set of engineers than designed the engine and original skidsteer. I often wonder if the manufacturers don’t hire college interns to design these things because the real ones refuse to add the crap to their designs. (This isn’t a dog on Kubota they all seem to have this problem) (however I do believe most of them are a little quicker worth the permeant redesign and upgrade to get out of the hole they dug) I don’t know how you feel (well
    After watching a
Some videos and seeing the Volvo have issues related to this problem as well I think we know what needs to be done and why the manufacturers are not coming out with the “approved fix” they think the real fix is the delete and don’t want the liability of saying that.
Problem I have with that is if that’s the plan they wish to push then they need to support that path and provide the parts to do it or at least the technical assistance for it. I am not saying they should provide them free (unless it’s drawing of what to build as a mount to remove and plug the ports) but as an option that’s at least a reasonable to purchase and preform by the average person. The legal issue is a dealer will not be able to do this but they should be able to provide the support for it legally.
For instance this one single problem should have had a Kubota issued update to properly secure the flange and extend the mount to another location(s) until the weight was distributed properly. When I worked for Komatsu the dealership I worked for had a large number of stores and a training person who would keep us on top of these and usually third or fourth failure of same product we were already on an approved path by Komatsu by a repair or drawing for the new braces or brackets. Case dealer was somewhat the same but we were the store that was where these things was sorted out and a some point the dealer stopped wanting to be CNH testing and engineering dept. you can’t blame them there.
They worked differently from the other dealership while the Komatsu dealer went out of their way to include the manufacturer of what ever the line was we were working wether it was Ingersoll Rand or any other brand they sold they pushed and got answers and then shared it with the manufacturers. The case dealer was solely depending on how much CNH was cooperative with the fix. IE when the first Case tracked skid steer (400 series ) came out we couldn’t keep the undercarriage under them. We figured out a fix (basically more grease footings and seals and turning a shaft around ) about the 6th machine that went down and instituted it on every machine we had sold (on the dealers dime because case wasn’t helping and their answer was continue to warranty items until it was out of warranty or they fixed it) before they all failed and the customers all traded them off on other brands (we even went and got one machine off another dealer and repaired it) after about three months case wanted to know why we had stopped filing claims on the items. Because they were little to no help and had left us out to dry the owner of the dealership said they could figure it out on their own. They had to go to the competing dealer buy that machine off their lot and take it back to KS and tear it apart to reverse engineer it and even then they didn’t get it right even with the parts in front of them the engineers either thought we had over done the modifications or didn’t understand why we had added the extra two more grease fittings and to the two new seals and drill the grease supply hole large enough it didn’t clog the first time it got mud in it the pin. It took them one more year to stop it where we lost one seal total in that time and it was under water for a week in a mud pit. I know some of you would be mad if it was your machine that was stuck and someone had the fix and wasn’t sharing but sometimes you have to make the manufacturers suffer some before they are willing to set down and listen and stop playing warranty games.

    • @blackw0lf993
      @blackw0lf993 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry for the long post but like in this condition many of the manufactures will either completely avoid the fix fearing being sued over it or so over engineer it that its not a reasonable repair.
Like in in this video proper order of torque and prob a new brace(s) would have been the dealer fix (In our world that would e some light angle iron and and some 1/8 strap or two with a bend or two to strengthen it. The manufactures world that would be a titanium fixture with at least two rubber bushings (which will require replacement at least in the 200hour range) and be like 600 dollars or more. Titanium would be more so maybe they would do magnesium because putting that in a skidsteer seems like such a good idea

At least you know you answered your own question. When the local dealership stocks a part like that intake it tells the story . As a class 8 truck mechanic for 30 years you are exactly right. It’s a reoccurring problem when a dealership keeps an intake manifold around. They very seldom keep $550.00 parts gathering dust. Regardless of it all it’s still America for a while yet so your entitled to your opinion. 🇺🇸

It all comes down to cost. These machines were designed before the EPA mandated further strangling restrictions. CAD allows companies to design practical solutions in meeting the new standards. All companies are faced with these types of dilemas. Unfortunately this Rube Goldberg affair of a bracket passed through engineering and was destined to cause buyers havoc down line. Kubota hopefully came up with a better solution on the SVL95-2.

When you have people designing equipment that have never gotten their hands dirty this is the type of design you get, their concerns aren’t with making equipment easy to fix or maintain it’s all about getting everything these machines need in a small area. Making things extremely hard to work on keeps their mechanics busy, it’s all about the money. The second they bring someone like you into the designing process that will ensure easy maintenance will end up in the end costing them millions in free money fixing their product, it’s a game that hurts us but keeps them in business.

Totally understand you forgetting that gasket, Mike! You looked shattered, bet that was a long hard day putting that all back together. A big well done for remembering it. I don't blame you for having your little rant at the start, anyone would under the circumstances, but, at least you were big enough to own up to everything. You have grown in my estimation. Hope that Kubota behaves itself now for you. Maybe keep Captain Kleeman away from it, just in case-lol

I say your a genius because you take pride in your labor and equipment and do the tedious things like route and secure the wires and hoses correctly. I've gone in after dealership repairs to discover it looks like Jim Bob's microwave, TV, and auto repair did the job so that's why I do it myself.

It's not just Kubota. Try working on any new vehicle. You have to take multiple parts off before you can get to what you need to repair. It's all about getting the most parts into the smallest space possible.

awesome mechanic skills! Don't blame you about the rant on Kubota tech. some of those bracket designs are stupid and I would think as much as those machines cost, they would of design it better.

Hi. I once owned a little kubota tractor and i hear you on the engineering side of kubota machinery i had a lot of stupid breakdowns to the way they were built. And yes when it comes to parts it always makes you wonder why they have never seen that break be for. Just deserve rant i thought.Good luck with it all

The biggest downfall with Kabota is their engines are not specifically designed to one piece of equipment that engine is in multiple pieces of equipment and they make them fit in every application differently

Just wondering your opinion on some of the newer kubota mini excavators more specifically the kx057 minis, we have owend a 1997 kubota kx101 with almost 4,000 hours on it any we haven’t had anything major go wrong yet just a couple hoses over the years and tracks, rollers we bought it when I was 11 and I’m now 33 years old.

I sure feel your pain and frustration Mike ! I blame allot of this on engine vibration but it looked pretty smooth at 41:30 . Is it smooth all through the RPM curve from say 650 to 2500 ?
We have a JD 8875 skid loader " Yanmar 3 cylinder " engine . Been a great machine but at idle
" 650 RPM " the engine shakes pretty bad . Bump it up to 1,100 rpm and smooth as silk to 2,500 . So I never throttle down below 1,100 as the vibration is hard on everything , bolts come loose , hydro hoses rub more , and more hydro leaks . It's like they didn't get the engine balance correct at low idle . Keep up the good work !

Aluminum is a great choice of material for an intake manifold, it's a horrible choice for a structural part on something that vibrates as bad as a 4 cylinder engine.

That is why japaness they have a system called a kaisen. Which it mean a continuous improvement...toyota used it and every one around the world is using it now...there is always a better way of doing and designing machine.
    Work in progress...
You should send a pictures to kubota Corporation so they dig deeper into it.
    Good luck with your kubota.

I hate to say it, but i'd be worried about the debris or dirt ingested through that hole. You have no idea how long that was cracked before you found it as hole. Just a bad gasket seal can do damage.
Good catch at the end though, we've all done it, I know some would pretend they never seen it. Hope it works good for you.

It is a shame that kubota seem to have so many small issues across equipment. Capable machinery, mechanically reliable but small misses. Have a bigger tractor as does a neighbor and they have the same little problems, down to cracks...
