    Preach on. We have a big problem here in the US with keeping up with the Joneses. I love seeing the Japanese cruising primer and black painted frames.

    Real talk. It took me several years to get to that level of "I'm building for me, it's not perfect but I'm out here and I'm enjoying it"

      That’s it. You’ve already won all the trophies there is to win if your enjoying yourself and making good memories.

    Up here, southern Wisconsin, a lot of the car shows are dying off. Weekday cruise nights seem to be taking over. Friends and family can jump in a car for an hour or two, get food, look at cars and drive home. The people that enjoy getting up early to get good parking at a show, sit in there chairs all day (don’t talk to nobody) and wait for trophy presentation is going by the wayside.

    Love when I hear a guy speaking truth.
    I remember a group of friends discussing about a super rare NISMO Skyline going into auction and they asked me, "how would you preserve it?"
    I simply told them, I'd put hundreds of thousands of miles on it, regular maintenance and good cleaning.
    They went nuts to say the least.

    Yes, been saying this for years...never understood the mindset of "it has to be perfect and has to last for 40 yrs"...just build, paint, and enjoy

    • @RJTickler
      @RJTickler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hell don’t paint it if you’ll still enjoy it lol. Just get out and burn some gas and make some memories.

    I'm with you, it was all downhill when they pulled the "Street Sweepers" section from the magazine and everyone forgot about the neighborhood lows that turned them onto the game in the first place. Fuck a trophy, the tradition is more important.

    Real shit. Especially in the lowrider scene seems like everybody building for Instagram. Never understood the strictly show car people tht dont even drive their whips. You spend thousands n thousands of $$$$ on your car to tow it to a show and park it there n never enjoy it cruising down the street but i guess to each their own. No car is ever gunna be perfect and no build will ever be done theres always SOMETHING. Just enjoy what u have and ride.

    It’s should be as long as it’s clean and safe… I rolled my impala last summer for the first time in 8 years… I took it off the frame in September… to wrap the frame and do other stuff… a part of me is regretting it now. I had a lay and play setup on OG coils…. Drive perfect!! Now o bought 3 ton chrome coils in the front $800 of chrome direction parts that I all ready had in black… I’m so dumb. Cars on blocks right now and it’s going to cost me thousands… and 2023 is supposed to be a doozy!! Anyway… I fell y’a.

    • @RJTickler
      @RJTickler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good way to do it is get a donor frame. Keep your car drivable and when your new frame is ready swap it over. It’s going to be sweet when it’s done but I feel you man it’s HARD to take a car off the road when you can jump in and enjoy it. That’s why I didn’t plan on doing anything with my red 64 I had a couple summers ago. It was rough but ran and drove perfect and I just enjoyed driving it.

    Hey rj, been binging your videos. Looking to get my own low low here soon. Will be a first for me. Thinking of doing a town car. Might possibly buy from cali thats already got some things done to it to start. Not wanting anything super crazy, jus up down and maybe some 3 wheel. Anything to watch out for on town cars????? Ivd been a mechanic at a lincoln/mopar dealer for 10 years now.

    Oh, show cars. Of course. Another interesting topic sir. Social media has just flat out ruined humans. These cars on IG, some are nice. Lots of them utilize trick photography and filter fuckery. It's not hard to make a car look good on a 20x20 display with lights to people who don't know what they are looking at. Alot of cars look good from 20ft away lol. And when the show is over and folks are packing up, the 20x20 cars barely run, sometimes won't start and don't have working tail lights lol. I'd much rather be able to walk up next to a 10x20 displayed car and admire the reflection on a black paint job, that was cut with 800 grit to start and buffed to a mirror finish. Oh and the door lines up good like it should. On the bondo topic. It's funny to me when some of these tv shows showing off the sheet metal finishing skills then next commercial break they are "skim coating" the entire panel with bondo. I have no problem using bondo. When some one asks how much, my answer is as much as it takes. The luxury sport is a good example. That car has filler down low. And it looked fine for 20 fucking years. One day someone will take that car to get painted. The show will remove all that bondo, and put more bondo right back where it was lol. I can go on for days rj....

    • @RJTickler
      @RJTickler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Man that’s the truth! I can appreciate a car that’s lined up nice and looks like you can get in it and take a trip. I enjoy them more than the overdone crazy flashy cars. The whole removing mud just to replace it is the truth 🤣 seen it so much.

    I work for one of the larger resto shops that sends cars to these "concours de dollars" and I can tell you from first hand experience your spot on. I've seen cars that you would call a perfect show car stripped down to metal just so the new multi millionaire owner can claim they own and "restored" it. I have a coworker with a 8 year personal project that he's still not driving bc he wants it perfect. Meanwhile my 20 footer mustang runs and drives great and I had it from a non running POS to a painted, running and driving car in 18 months but it's a driver not a "show car".

    What people don do these days is not actually build a car (customize) nobody actually customize cars everything is bolt on and bought. Everyone's car looks the same trucks look the same from hotrods to lowriders all look the same! Almost every cruise theirs thousands of chargers cameros hellcats jeeps and lifted trucks with huge RC truck wheels with a weird lean in the rear. Lowriders all about hopping and high lock ups and engraved parts and same old shit nobody builds anything that stands out that's one off! When's the last time you seen someone mold a body line or make unique shape to the body or a unique bumper or one off part ? When's last time you see someone do something old school to a modern car ? Back in the day dude used to take other parts from cars and build a unique car traditional customs from the 1950s and the 1960s is a dying breed .
