thomas Prior your right that’s why Hitler was at he’s wedding, and he only really got defeat when the working class turned out in cable street and Birmingham and when he didn’t get many votes which wasn’t helpful and speaking treasonous acts against the uk during the start of the war, courts tend not to like that selling your own people into slavery.
He though Hitler was going to win and would make him leader of the uk without any voting

      lostintashkent I respect your opinion
But to be British you must have British sovereignty..... a country that governs its self.... makes its own laws and has its own agenda on the world stage. It must also be able to control its own borders
Britain is just a state in the EU project.... it will become more absorbed under the Lisbon Treaty . The EU does not believe in Nations or national identity...... it’s not going to be like it is today forever
So if you value yourself as British.... you cannot agree to an anti British project

    • @lostintashkent

@Genius Goblin Why, if a second referendum would show that the majority has clearly shifted to remain? Should Brexit be forced through even if we no longer want it? Mr. Powell was a powerful orator and an intellectual. I am an East African Asian (Indian) who lived in England (1967-1976) and my memoirs are chronicled in my book, Out of the Third World, Ashok Sharma, available at amazon.co.uk. The English people helped me a lot; without their help, I could not have succeeded (I went to medical school at Cambridge). I greatly admire their sense of fair play, amiability, willingness to help others, their maturity and the sense of right and wrong-traits I wish people in the third world could emulate, especially with the abysmal treatment of minorities in some of these countries. In the book, I’ve discussed the real reasons (not mentioned anywhere) and the genesis of Mr. Powell’s speech, dubbed “The Rivers of Blood,” delivered on April 20, 1968, when I was in my second year at Woolwich College, London, and how it directly affected me and its wider consequences (paradoxically, it had the opposite effect of what Mr. Powell intended) chronicled in the chapter “The invisible hand of Enoch Powell.” One fact has not changed: Britain was Great when Mr. Powell spoke; it is still Great 50 years later, and it will always be Great! It’s in the inner strength of its peoples. May God -- those who believe in God, and any other entity you believe in or not-bless Great Britain and all its peoples.

Tony Green that’s the thing despite his fantastic oration, in the end he wasn’t proved right. The black man didn’t hold the whip hand in the 15 years he quoted, or now. Nor were there rivers of blood or a civil war. Yes there were riots in the 80’s, but as Scarman’s report proved, these were the result of economic deprivation and overly hostile policing, which following policies tended to eliminate. Of course there are still some pockets of worrying comunalism is certain towns today, but by and large integration is being achieved to a growing extent. Researching Powell as I have, his fears seem rooted in his knowledge of trouble and injustices committed in Empire, where he thought those peoples would wreak revenge. They haven’t.

Why then are the Indians not now denounced as racists? It's also extremely disingenuous to say that he attributed the tensions to 'equal rights', when you know very well that what he was trying to warn of was the coming wave of demographic replacement being perpetrated against them.

Francis Artanis haha no, it was at hustings at recent elections. Absolutely head and shoulders above everyone else as an orator, whether you agree with him or not.

There is an empty statue plinth in Bristol we can put a lovely bronze statue of him on.

I would love to see an Enoch statue on that plinth in Bristol as opposed to a hideous 3D resin printed monstrosity of a BL-ak woman thrusting her fist in the air aggressively.

It's just a shame that the Tories have still not completed the Job. We are still not completely free from the clutches of the EU. Judging by the vindictive actions of the EU towards the UK after the leave vote. In my view it is plain to see why the majority wanted to leave. Powell was a visionary who knew full well the destructive path the country was taking and still is. He did not receive the respect and recognition he deserved as a true British patriotic politician.

My God he was right and Mr Dimbleby, we never voted to join the Common Market, we never had a vote, the vote was cynically presented to us after we'd joined.

An honest and true patriot R.I.P Why on earth can we not find men of this calibre anymore.
They should put a statue up celebrating the life of this man.

He had the courage and conviction to speak his mind and to make people aware of his concerns with regard to the EU and British society. After the events of recent weeks I do not recognize my own country anymore.

The inclusion of Boris and his criminal rabble ruined this video of a great man. Not one politician has an ounce of integrity or backbone like Powell.

I remember him. It was unfashionable to support his views, except when with friends and family, and yet his worst predictions have turned out to be right. It was more fashionable to sound educated and enlightened and poo-poo what he said would happen, We were more optimistic and comfortable in those days. Diversity is not a strength. It destroys countries. Diversity is NOT the same thing as controlled immigration, in which the newcomers adjust to the values and customs of their new home countries.
