    I work in the triad area of NC so I don’t see a lot of boilers. My company has a few and I watch your videos to expand my knowledge and I can tell you that you’ve given me a boat load of knowledge. Thank you sir

    It's amazing how many expansion tanks I go to change are overtighten on the air scoop. I agree with you and only hand tighten, another informational video, good job Steve.

      @Thomas Albert
      I don't professionally work on boilers, just my own, but have seen many Steve works on over tightened for some reason. I mean it is a pipe thread and it is tapered so not gonna leak with pipe dope or ptfe tape. At least mine is hooked to cast iron not copper...lol.

      We don’t tie our bladder tank directly into air scoop for that reason, We use a tee fitting and isolation, Pump Away style.
      The other reason is that you can’t get a wrench on it because the dimension is too close to remove it.
      So like they say,
      Hand Tight Only! Leaks a bit, give er a lil turn

    That's why I always add a ball valve on the expansion tank line. Helps for future servicing.

    threading a expansion tank at an awkward angle can make even the most experienced plumber lose his shit!...Nailed that one first try.

    The moment your truck got out of sight he started playing with the relief valve and probably got a pressure gauge and was messing with the expansion tank 🤣😅😂

    why do you never just pump up the expansion tanks once they've lost their charge?

    • @reecenewton3097
      @reecenewton3097 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Changing the Schraeder valve and then pumping up to 12 psi would probably fix it.

    • @jblyon2
      @jblyon2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's usually only a temporary fix. Once the diaphragm is compromised it'll just slowly leak out again. I'm sure the guy doesn't want to be calling Steve again in a month or two when it runs out of pressure. That said if you're cheap like my Dad you can sometimes get away with refilling them periodically for years, but you need to keep on it and have your own air compressor.

    That feed rig is bassakwards, as you noted for sure!
    Back Flow by code must be on inlet side of reducer,
    It’s kind of funny how they ship that combo piped correctly and someone took the time to rat it up.
    Piped like that it can potentially back feed boiler water into potable side.
    Kind of a shame, rest of the work looks ok, except hanging the scoop/vent/tank right over boiler,
    That’s a no no where I live and will get your permit in a bunch, because it can leak water in to boiler controls.
    Sometimes you don’t have the space, so I get that.

  • @Martin-pr6ps

      @@joedugas9462 what reason?

    • @joedugas9462
      @joedugas9462 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Martin-pr6ps shrader valve leaking air or the rubber diaphragm inside the tank leaking. It's a $60 tank....come back a month later a do a free service call is expensive..and makes you look like a shitty service tech.

    • @Martin-pr6ps
      @Martin-pr6ps 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joedugas9462 first off the diaphragm was fine because if that leaked then the vessel would be full of water. And second of all you could always change the Shrader valve just unscrew the inter valve and replace with new just like a bicycle tube. No big done.

    I’d almost be willing to bet your curious customer depressurized that tank.
    I mean WTF is air doing in an expansion tank? Lol smh.
    I am more concerned when I see water coming out that bottom port, that’s a no brainer fail.
    But, if you’re gonna replace a bladder tank, you may as well do the relief while it’s drained,
    It’s a cheap part and they fail in tandem commonly anyway. Applies Vice Versa.
