    I just made a scarf. Instead of pulling one stitch at a time, I did 2 rows. Then pulled the stitch over each one. Repeated till done. It worked with less time. Thanks for your tutorial though.

    I found that the dark wool made it difficult to see because I'm a beginner. Love your voice (soft), patience and instructions. I'm knitting a hat at the moment and did not realize that we could purl which is silly (of course purling is part of knitting hahaha). Thanks Adrianne, Merry Christmas to you and yours. (Dec. 13/15)

    Lovely cowl, thanks for the tut. To make an infinity you have to twist one end so it doesn't lay flat.

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LindieLee yes this is true if it's more important for you to wear it flat. I like the wintery look and I'd rather fold it up flat for storage in the summer months. But you are correct that when you loop it around, there will be a twist in the scarf if you don't twist it before connecting the two ends.

    I'm starting this now and am excited to figure out the purl stitch. I heard that you said it took a skein and a half of yarn. I'm clearly a beginner, but what did you do when you had to start a new skein? Do you cast on again or just do another slip knot of something? Sorry for the dumb question.

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just tied two ends together, and tried to weave the tails into the knitting so they wouldn't show. When you look for it, you can see it, but if you don't know, nobody sees it. :) Not a dumb question! I make things specifically for beginners trying it for the first time.

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, I'm such a beginner, I don't know all the stitches, but I will say this: many stitches can be combined in different ways for a totally different look. My advice is give it a try, and see how it looks after a couple rows. If you don't like it, you can always pull it all oout and start over. Good luck!

    • @vegangelist

      Adgurl Oone what problem are you having with it?
      I know I like to hold the loom upside down when I purl. I find it easier and faster and less awkward to do that way. Maybe that would help?
      Once you get going, you can get into a good rhythm doing purl.
      There is a single knit, figure 8 stitch, that you could do. It will just give you a totally different look - not bad, just different.
      This k, p combo creates a rib stitch.
      You can also vary that by the number of k and p you do (e.g. K2, p2 or k2, p1 or p3, k2 etc).

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chad Chang a little wider, like 8 ish inches? The width will vary a little based on the bulk of your yarn. This is very bulky. A thinner yarn would yield a slightly thinner scarf.

    • @Annieb519
      @Annieb519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use 2 strands of yarn for a thinner yarn. Should be thicker. Just remember, when you are working with the hook, you are always hooking 2 strands of yarn with both the knit stitch and the purl stitch.So, you will have 4 strands of yarn, not 2. Just double everything she does and you will be fine.. I do it all the time, works good for me when I don't have a thicker yarn.

    Adrienne, is there another way to finish the scarf. Rather than using a needle? I have made a scarf on the round loom before and never saw it taken off this way. Thanks enjoyed your presentation. Well done. Just became reacquainted with my loom again and be trying a K& P project next.

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Catherine - there may be, but I don't know it. I have always used a needle to bind off the last bit. It never occurred to me that there might be another way - the loom knitter set comes with a hook and needle and I've always used both. Would be really interested to hear if you spot another way!

    • @jeanette221
      @jeanette221 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ctriple33 If you only use e-wrap / knit stitches you are going get curling edges you need to add purl stitches to avoid curling. So you can knit 1 peg and purl one peg until then end or you can do 1 row of knit stitches with 1 row of purl stitch which will give you a garter stitch. Hope this helps. :)

    If people are looking for replacement needles for their loom kids the type of needle that you're looking for is called a tapestry needle not an embroidery needle tapestry needles have larger holes to accommodate yarn and blunt points

  • @chrissybarmoy940

      Chrissy Edmonds then you will have a tube shape, and when you wear it it will automatically be two layers (think of a flattened tube - its double the thickness). There's nothing wrong with that but I wanted mine to be one layer.

      Martha Macias not silly at all! The shape makes no difference. I own a round loom set. You don't have to purchase a different shape as long as the loom you're using has enough pegs. I was just using what I have!

      A cowl is typically 60-70 inches so you can wrap it around your neck once or twice. If you are a smaller person, maybe less, taller, maybe more. When you get to about 50 inches, test it out and wrap what you have already made and see how it fits. Alot depends on the size of the person you are making it for. Obviously, children will be alot smaller. I would then cut the size in 1/2 and see where it takes me. That's what is so cool about loom knitting, you have lots of choices.

    The seam did not look tight?

    • @AdrianneSurian
      @AdrianneSurian  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was really disappointed that OF COURSE when I got it on video it looked a bit messy! Here's what happened to me: it actually is plenty tight, but I stitched the end yarn actually a little *too* tightly. You'll see that throughout the scarf, the rows come together at about half (or less) the width of what I've knitted. When I knitted off the end row and joined it with the beginning row, I made my yarn too tight. So those stitches didn't fall into place like the rest of the scarf - instead of settling to the center of the stitch, they were tightly wound around the sides of the stitch which caused the holes to look WAY bigger than the other stitches in the scarf. It took a bit of stretching and moving on that seam before I got it to compact to the size of the rest of the scarf and blend in. That's a great point, and thanks for asking about it so I could explain!

    • @shellym189
      @shellym189 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adrianne Surian when you put the starting loops back on to do the seam, you can knit them over, like how you would for a brim of a hat, to close them up, then bind off.
