Danica I want to thank you for your advice and helping me with picking between the Delano and the La Sal. I made my choice and ordered it today! I got the Delano with a bit of a twist to the spec. I was assured it will do what I need it to do and it will still be playful and fun. So seeing the comparison for the fenders is a big help as well. I need to order one.
I run a small fender up front and as far as I can tell, it is decent for keeping mud mostly off my face, but does not do much else. You can see how the bottom tube is caked most the way up, which seems to indicate it is slowing some of the mud flinging, but a good amount is still getting splattered all over.
Yeah the small fenders do a little for sure. I also have noticed that they are covered with mud too so that is better than ending up on you! Usually when I rock a small fender I wear glasses to keep the mud out of my eyes. I hate that feeling!
I’ve got a DVO integrated fender & it does a good job on wrapping around my seal area, which is more the reason I like to use fenders. Saving my fork is most important! And well, the GoPro lens as much as possible 😝
Focal MTB yes I have noticed that. When I ride in loose rocky areas I hear little pebbles hit the small fender and help protect my fork from being hit and scratched by the small rocks! Plus they look cool 😎
I was resistant to fenders for many years, as I ride mostly in dry and rocky desert. However, I encountered deep snow and mud on a recent out of town ride and was noticing the snow and mud was jamming small pebbles in my lower rear pivots, not to mention I was absolutely soaked in snow and mud. Having an ebike, I realized it was time to finally drink the fender Kool Aid. Danica’s video reinforced my needs. Thanks!
Progaurd rear is great rrp neoprene on my forks you might remember the old DH style fork fabric mudguard? That with a mucky nuts works well but the larger type they have now
You're all missing the major benefit here...which is keeping the stanchions' seals and fork's guts CLEAN!!!...THAT should be the comparison criterion...and it would be more than obvious if a fender is worth it...the rest is just collateral benefit...
Good point that also is super important. The main reason I have a fender is because here in the PNW you can’t wear any eye wear without it fogging and getting some dirt in the eye while going full speed can turn deadly very quickly 😬
@@FifeFlow I know and I feel your pain! Vision obstruction is not a joke while riding, especially in a fast trail! But, IMHO, you need a combination of fenders to achieve that, that is: the longest front wheel fender u can find (extending also a LOT in front of the fork bridge), like mugguard, mudhugger, etc., as also a gut fender (the one attached on the downtube). Then you may have some results. But NOTHING, can substitute eye protection provided with a pair of glasses/goggles! So, try to find the best fogging resistant eyewear you can or/and anti-fogging sprays/solutions to use (even saliva, as divers know pretty well), because nothing can protect your precious (and pretty I have to admit) eyes better! There's not only mud and dust, there are also branches that lurk around the corner... I've been there and I know and it's not a joke! Just my 2¢. Besides that, I loved the positive energy on the video! ...Keep rollin'!
I ride with one mucky nutz on front and one on the back. The one on back is supposed to keep my suspension cleaner. Totally debatable. I hope, deep down inside, that they are working for me, but I always come home a complete mess.
adamelida19 I feel ya! I know it does a little of something because the bottom side is always covered with mud so I know it’s doing a little even though it might not seem like it!
I rode a couple hundred miles with one of the small stylish front fenders, and ended up getting rid of it. Never really seemed to do much other than make noise when rocks and sticks bounced off it.
I agree in the dry they can rock too. When it’s dry I don’t run my big fender but the small one is perfect for keeping the rocks from hitting my fork and etc. 😊
tizben I think both the chamois and the saddle matter! I tried a couple different seats and they are not equal. I really like my WTB volt and I know WTB makes women specific saddles but I never have tried them. I would also mess around with the tilt and position of your saddle (forward/ back or tilt counter/clockwise) that can help aid with comfort. I also find that shorts matter a little too but not as much as the seat. I really enjoy my Kitsbow chamois and have been my favorite out of all the brands I’ve tried. Hopefully this helps! Good luck. ☺️
Regardless of the type of bike, the type of riding, or the type of rider, enders are fenders... people that don't ride much don't really care, people that ride a great deal have them mounted and ride with them most of the time.
I'm trying hard not to be sarcastic because i am an arse but were these results not blindingly obvious before you started? Of course the big one keeps more off,it guards more of the wheel. Maybe it's just me I dunno.
I really want an e bike(I'm not experienced atall)!,,aren't you scared of coming off? Have you fallen off? I hope not though. My fella s against me gettin one for my safety,he doesn't want me to be hurt or worse
Check out my ebike review of the Fezzari Wire Peak out! th-cam.com/video/M6G0gofloT8/w-d-xo.html I think e bikes can be great for beginners but normal bikes are fine as well. I have fallen off a couple of times and yes I’m still scared of riding certain things, but that’s a great part about biking is that you can progress and there is a safe way to do it. Start easy first on gravel roads then try out some green trails and make your way up from there!
It rains in the Bay Area for at least 65 days of year. Your probably from SoCal. Those 2+ months of rain are golden for me. Love riding my hardtail in the wet season when no one else is on the trail.
Haha yes the MN fender didn’t do the greatest but this also wasn’t the most controlled experiment in the world so my guess is that it does a little but definitely not as much as the XL fender!
@@FifeFlow it was as controlled as any rider would have been riding. Mudhuggers the way to go? but what about mud clogging? Still, thanks for the video, New sub😻
I built my own out of a sheet of impact resistant plastic, zip-ties and pipe clamps over some rubber gaskets to protect the forks. Cost me 20 bucks and learned to fabricate some more. A lot of these companies just make stuff with a sub par standard at a high price. The best quality ramps up in price significantly.
@@FifeFlow Plenty of water to wash with! When I went last week, I had to put my 5-10's and clothes in a bucket to wash of the mud and grit before they went in the washer.
Great comparison Danica! I was always curious if my little fenders did anything, I think you've shown me they work as well as I thought they would!
Daily MTB Rider thanks Josh for watching!
I kinda figured my mucky nutz fenders were more for style...oh and not to mention the cool sound it makes when a pine cone gets stuck in it!
totally! LOL
Oh yes I agree the pine cone grinding makes it sound like you're going faster! Haha
When I was competing in the late 90s we tie strapped a part of a milk container to the down tube of the frame

2.08 straight sender! love to see it
3:11 the moment she realised that it wasn't just mud 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t even want to think about that. It was in my mouth and everything 🤢
I’m a huge fan of the big fender! Especially being able to take it on and off. Looks like a fun trail

Thanks for that - it was really useful and Crud XL it is! And I liked your light hearted humour along the way 😁
Haha glad you enjoyed the video!
@@FifeFlow All ordered and due early next week😁
Well I am sold getting a big fender for winter riding. Smart idea for your video. Keep them coming.
Quill Black thanks I plan on it!😃
I haven't ridden A-Dog since it reopened, Ryan was taping it off just as I rode up to it about a month ago. Totally different after a fresh cut!
Yes- when you ride it make sure to be aware that they built up some of the jumps so they are a bit more lippy!
I wondered about these little fenders we strap on. Thanks for the review.
Of course! Glad you found it helpful 😊

Great video, just bought the Crud XL hope i made the right choice
I think you'll love it!
very enjoyable- just need something for commuting - any suggestions?
I have the Mahalo My Dude mud guard and I honestly only got it cuz it looks sick but I was surprised that it actually does something
Blake yes fenders do add a little bit of flare to the look of the bike I agree! 🙂

Yeah they are pretty minimal so they don’t do a lot that’s for sure! For really wet places the large fenders are a winner. 👍🏼
Yep, they're just in the wrong place. Mud and such that's getting in your face is coming off the front tire WAY below the coverage of those fenders.
I noticed that the small fenders do more with keeping crap out of your face, not so much your clothes! Just my observation in Northern CA
Yes I think the small fenders at least do something! After this video though I am a big fan of the large fenders.
Hmm, yep. This confirms my suspicions about my front fender. Off it goes then lol
Adam Vanwinkle hahaha but it does make your bike look sleek 😂
Looks like big fenders are the way to go!

Is there any use for fenders in dry rocky places?
Ps: great video!
Yes my friends use them to protect their forks from pebbles that bounce up and cause damage 🙂
Definitely worth it. At least my face doesnt have mud in it. My shirt, legs, feet and ass however tho. 😂😂😂
I looked it up on amazon and couldnt find it can you send a link?
nice trails and this was exactly what i wanted to see
I am glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

In CA we skip the fender and just sit out the two weeks a year that it rains! Maybe less in a drought year.
Its a different world for sure. I lived in St. George, UT before moving to WA and I never thought of putting on a mud guard!

That's not muddy, you need to come across the pond and ride the monkey at Cannock Chase in the middle of November, now that's muddy!
O man how do you deal with that type of mud?

Yeah honestly I think it’s worth it. It is so nice when you don’t have a forever clean up!

It means that fender is not worth it as i can see .

Haha nope 23 actually!

man you just prove to me bike fenders are nonsense , whats waste of money
