Even hills in a desert have light and dark areas - it's those contrasting/graduating values that enable us to perceive the dunes. I recommend drawing your desert out and shading in pencil, or painting it as a preliminary tonal study first, just so that you can identify where those contrasts are, and how they visually inform us of their three-dimensional properties. I hope that helps.

I watched it again. I’m trying to figure out how to paint hills in the desert. There are no walls or crop patterns and it turns out as flat land
