Why would you put every cow through elective c-sections? That's crazy, that has to triple your production costs, shorten your cow's life spans and productive years, and you can't even choose to breed for the best natural mothers and calving ease.
I think in that country c sections are very cheap. In belgium, afaik, alot of farmers can do c sections themselves But yeah it doesnt allow to pick for calving ease and the sort, most cows might live to 5 or 6. In belgium, belgian blue bull calving ease isnt a thing accounted for (but birthweight is). Don’t quote me on any of this but im fairly sure
Combination of factors, The breed is double muscled which means calving a pedigree belgian blue calf out of a pedigree belgian blue cow is nearly impossible. There is a local premium for cow meat, which means they do not have to worry about the longevity of the animal, the average cow "births" 2-3 calves before being finished for meat. C sections are half the price they are in the UK. Breeding for ease of calving, as with selecting for any genetic trait, comes at the loss of some other trait somewhere. These animals have an insanely high kill out %s and feed conversion ratio because of not having to breed for materal traits. There is overseas demand for there genetics to be used for AI as they currently are to increase the value of calves in the dairy industry/from plainer suckler cows, where naturally birthing the calf is not an issue and the lack of breeding for maternal traits allows them to stand above the other competitors in producing a profitable calf. Something is obviously working for them or else they would not be doing it.
@@agunghermawan7867 i think it’s for welfare reasons. See how it says “all are born via cesarian”? I think that’s the main concern. Less extreme lines in the breed , like british/danish blues, might be allowed though
