Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine rice planting ritual 2023/06/14 (Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka)

The rice-planting ritual at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, is held grandly in the middle of a big city.
It is said that Empress Jingu set up rice fields and had rice fields built. Rice-planting ceremonies are held in various places, but among them, the rice-planting ritual at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine strictly adheres to the same formality as it was at the time, even though it is located in the middle of the big city.
In order to increase the power of the grain that resides in the rice fields and planted seedlings, singing and dancing are performed in a very spectacular and grand manner.

住吉大社の応神帝以来の宮司の津守氏は、河内源氏と婚族関係にあり、河内源氏の子孫で鎌倉に幕府を開いた源頼朝は京都への上洛の際、幕府の御家人を住吉大社の境内（現在は住吉公園の地）に集め、祝い矢の催しを大規模にしている。
