  • Watch Ava try solids for the first time at 4.5 months old!! Also see what I buy from buybuybaby to start the solids process.
    EDIT: PLEASE don't comment saying she's too young or i'm a bad mum for doing this. Her Pediatrician said to start (and I think they know best) so we did. And she is an AMAZING eater now.

    These comments 🙄. Why does everyone feel like a know-it-all when it comes to this stuff. Everyone does it differently and that doesn’t mean it is wrong because a person doesn’t do it the way you do it. And not all pediatricians suggest the same thing. Every child is different! I hate when everyone gives constant unsolicited advice of why you should or shouldn’t do this. At the end of the day, it’s YOUR baby. So you do what feels right to you. Beautiful baby btw 😌.

    Why on earth would people give a beautiful video like this a thumbs down. Your baby girl is so precious ... this video helped me a lot , my baby will be 5 months old tomorrow and his dr wants me to start him on his solids in 2 weeks, I’m so nervous but so excited. Thank you so much for sharing. Your baby is a gorgeous little angel. Great Job mom!

      I guess because some people might think that she might be too little to start the solids or be put in highchair cause most of them are from 6 months, but this baby girl is just perfect and ready for everything!

      The AAP says babies "only need their nutrition from milk/formula until 6 months" People go by what they say like it's the Bible without considering milestones. My baby had his 4 month check up and our Dr said we could start him on rice cereal soon because he could hold his head steady and started showing interest in food

    She isn't pushing food out because of taste. Young babies have whats known as the extrusion reflex.
    "The extrusion or tongue-thrust reflex helps protect babies from choking or aspirating food and other foreign objects and helps them to latch onto a nipple. You can see this reflex in action when their tongue is touched or depressed in any way by a solid and semisolid object, like a spoon. In response, a baby’s tongue will thrust out of their mouth to prevent anything but a nipple from a breast or bottle from coming through."
    Babies are not ready for solids until they lose the extrusion reflex.

    • @kblitaro9212
      @kblitaro9212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When do babies lose that reflex?

    • @epnickgames
      @epnickgames 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@kblitaro9212 typically around 4-6 months but it is different for every child. If you attempt to start solids and baby is still pushing food out like this it is a sign they're not ready and you need to stop and try again later. There are also studies that show delaying solids improves gut health and decreases risk of diabetes. Definitely do some research before beginning solids!
      The majority of an infant's nutrients should be coming from breastmilk/formula.

    It’s funny how things have changed in 42 years ! My son is now that age and when he was born 8lb 4z he was constantly unhappy with just milk ! My mother bless her a mother of 5 said that baby needs more than milk ! He was 3 months she made me a baby recipe of egg custard once a day for him and explained within a month any veg potatoe and meat liquidise a little and feed him once a day ! In those days we cooked 😂 baby food was just a convenience ! I followed her advise which she also said every baby’s different ! Best thing listen to mother he thrived grew into a 6ft 2 handsome man who adores his food and is a fab cook ! His sister was different although I still took my mothers advice she was a little older with farleys rusk cereal first ! Both grew healthily into their later childhood with no fussy eating !! The old ways aren’t bad and it’s become too scientific for young mums and there are a lot of extremely fussy children and adults about food ! Good old plain pots veg and meat ! 😊

      The issues not with growth it is digestive issues. This is survivor bias. Things change for a reason and it is not all bad. Stop encouraging diseases which is what happens from eating too soon. Glad your children grew up liking food, but that’s not the issues at hand.

      @SandraDee the information I’ve read and got from family was that the outdated information is waiting til 6 months. Two different pediatricians, with different experiences and one younger and one older both say this. And further research states it depends on the child and the child’s physical development. Some baby’s have to wait and some don’t it really depends on their stomach development. I’ve read and who I’ve spoken too all agree that. And it’s not like you’re jumping into mashed up food(which a lot of people do and that’s what the issue is), starts of with broth and egg YOKES at four months

    Be careful with rice cereal...rice often has arsenic which can be harmful to babies. I have 2 other kids as I wasn't aware of this when they were little. But I'm staying away from rice and products with rice flour with my last child. Thank you for this video otherwise. I just want to spread awareness for who it can help. You did a wonderful job. I think you can supplement rice cereal with oat cereals instead.

      My daughter started spitting out food at 2 months but started eating baby food at 4 months and she's 1 now and very healthy. My son who is 4 months now know the difference and spit out and make faces with what he doesn't like. And he knows he's hungry. I follow with a 4 ounce bottle after he eats. And sometimes I don't feed him the whole can of baby food. All babies are different and you will know. Doctors use hypothesis off certain babies and they're all different.

      @Laura Espino not saying you’re wrong about pediatricians saying they’re not ready. Although when I was young and was given food at around 5 months old because I lost the tongue reflex, no problems. I’m healthy, no allergies, no digestive issues or problems, absolutely nothing is wrong with me. I guess the safest route would be to wait because of minority issues like taking away all peanut butter in schools due to one person having allergies as for example. Also a lot of people put oatmeal into bottles (not me), that’s solids and pediatricians tell them to put it in there! Guess this is just a controversial discussion.

      Victoria Ciftci your baby doesn’t have a developed gag reflux until they’re 6 months old and can sit unassisted. Unfortunately some doctors are not up to the times with their information and prefer to recommend according to personal beliefs. Doctors are indeed people. Rice cereal is empty calories and increases risks of obesity and insulin resistance. The USA clearly isn’t the best with nutrition. So much obesity and unhealthy diets here.

    BAD pediatricians recommend 4 months, and your baby is showing none of the signs of readiness. If your pediatrician recommends rice then you need a new pediatrician.
