- Hi Friends! In this video I take you with me and David to Bicester Village in the UK, which is a luxury outlet. I was very surprised on this occasion however, as a lot of the discounts weren't real discounts (you can find them cheaper online). Additionally, a LOT more stores were selling NEW STOCK (which you'd assume is discounted, but it's not).

A big secret that's been going on for more than 30 years now: designer outlet stores having different quality standards than the boutiques, products being produced in different factories specifically for outlets. I still shop in the outlet mall from time to time because I can still get better quality materials. But I do not buy luxury items there hoping to get a deal. I buy what I would normally wear daily.

Unless it changed brands have always been honest about this, outlet stock tends to be factory seconds and if you're lucky past season stuff.

Me too, I do like going to outlet malls to get nice stuff on a good price but I know what I’m getting, I know the quality is slightly inferior but I still get a nice bag on a fair price. Not high end designer but something I like and real leather.
This is definitely not a secret and not new. Brands usually don’t try to hide it. Still fun to go to outlet malls. Enjoy the thrill,of the hunt

Personally, I like seeing current and previous season products in the same store, and I don't mind outlet lines either, as to me the fun is hunting for the items that completes the look. Also it's good to see there's always something for everyone, which makes shopping easier, and I can save some time going to different locations.
You are correct the quality is not the same as in the original designer stores, they have factories that are specifically used for retail outlet stores. You have noted this in your vlog though 👍 I just find it sneaky and unethical.
I noticed this a couple of years ago when I went to Bicester. The so called 'discounts' are becoming terrible, not worth having a whole village for, it's like any other seasonal sale. And I'd go into a shop and they'll be showcasing the new collection at full price, which really frustrated me as I didn't drive for an hr an half to see a new collection I could've seen 30mins away in the central London boutique. We used to go every year, back when it was worth visiting. Now we hardly bother.
I love seeing your outlet shopping vlogs! I personally prefer shopping online cause some stores have better deals than others and you can access it all online in the comfort of your food stained pajamas while your favorite tv show is on in the background lol.

Do you actually ever go into Coach retail stores, or just the Coach Outlet? The items on offer are completely different!

There is something so sweet about David checking the prices for you. I've recently realised I love the little "old-fashioned" romantic things, which is difficult to combine with my liberal/feminist/egalitarian views. Glad to see it's possible! xD
the ballet loafers from tory burch are my absolute favorite. Haven't really bought any bags, but i might get the ella tote.
the june gloom in LA has been really cold this year.
I wonder if the the reason for a mix of current/discounted is because Bicester seems to get a lot of traffic, so maybe people will still buy non-discounted items. People must be buying it.
I think the climate of outlet shopping has changed over the past few years. The outlet mall near us has a number of stores that are basically just regular stores with no special discounts.
Most of the Bath and Body Works stores in outlet malls are regular stores. They have very few actual outlet locations.
The Howl's Moving Castle line from Loewe is awesome!

Vera Bradly stores at outlet malls are called "Vera Bradley Factory Stores" . They have entirely different designs from their regular stores, The factory stores have lower prices and more generous sales than the regular stores. Another difference is that the lining in the Factory Store purses are polyester instead of the cotton print linings the bags in their regular stores have.
it's not surprising that they would change tactics. guessing the sales staff has to engage the buyers in order to make their commission or quota. the allure of seeing current items in the window is a big draw thinking they may be discounted. again, thanks for taking us along. it's also a cold june in canada!

Regarding David not wanting to go into Loewe, my fiancé is the same about Hermés after hearing about the "Hermés journey" and now REFUSE to go anywhere near a store haha! Valet 35 pounds? Yikes. Here on Maui, you tip what you like. The parking is free. Valet tip is $3-$5 customarily. P.S. those Fendi block heels with closed toes!

Very frustrating about the prices. Why do they do that? It makes it harder to shop and buy. I loved the little light purple bags but when it gets down to it, what will it go with in my wardrobe? I think lots of people go there, look and walk away without anything. Hands down, Coach has the cutest leather bags for the price. I'm still thinking about your crochet bags.

Yeah I don't trust any of those prices. They probably jack up the original price to make the discounted price more enticing even though it's a ripoff. It's all psychological, it's an "Outlet" so it must be a great deal to buy!

I am finding the Bicester Village stuff very disappointing and it looks as if it's better to shop in the boutiques and department stores and to just buy fewer items.
One of my favourite brands is Holland Cooper.. however I recently discovered that all their staff is actually made in China and Turkey ..well, i looked on the labels on their clothes ,think they should stop advertising themselves as
" British made" brand..

i Recently went shopping at An Outlet mall and experienced something similar.
Items were current and NOT on sale, despite there being "30-40% off" signs all over the stores. it was maybe 2/3 of the stores were full price and 1/3 was "Discounted"

Nice video i'm not sure bicester is a good idea for me because if i bought something and found out it was made for the outlet only i'd feel soo down and out, guess its a case of due diligence before parting with cash.

I suppose it's about doing your homework first (or googling the rrp of anything you'd like to buy). If it's an outlet specific item, I'm okay with that generally as long as the price and quality go hand in hand. Factory seconds have to be marked as such by law in the UK, and there are very different rules for sale prices, discounted prices and special offers (the later doesn't necessarily mean you're making a saving!).
I'm also wondering if the lack of past season discounted items is a knock on effect of limited stock issues during the last couple or three years?

Burberry should not have changed the design of the logo, it is so risky from a brand marketing strategy perspective. I also think Dior should be more careful with how they communicate their brand.

I read your note that these prices were not the best prices compared to online. It bothers me that outlet shopping can be deceiving. The only thing it’s good for is to get some people to shop who resist shopping completely. They think outlet shops have done all the discounting for them. They’ll never know they overpaid.

All luxury brands which have outlet stores, have separate manufacturing lines for outlet only products. These are of a slightly inferior quality to the boutiques. UGG boots are a great example. The outlet version is lesser quality than the retail version!
