Easy to Sew Gift: Making Beanie Hats [Straight Stitch Only]

  • How I made these beanie hats by copying an existing hat. I only used straight stitch on a regular sewing machine. It took me a while to figure out a good formula, but once you get a hang of it, they sew up really quick! They’re perfect Christmas gifts you can start sewing now :)
    -Fabric Recommendation
    I recommend using rib knit fabric. Fleece fabric would make really warm hats, but be sure to widen the hats so that they are not too tight!

    What’s so good about your videos is you include the problems and mistakes we all enounter in making these kinds of things. That’s really helpful.

      I LOVE SEEING THE PROCESS!!
      It makes it so much less frustrating as a beginner. Everything is SO awkward in the beginning, and we spend SO much time to make it, when it comes out wrong some of us tend to feel like "well then I just am not good at sewing!!!" 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ and give up.
      It's nice to see that this is just the process, even for the pros sometimes 😊
      I feel that good teachers show you how to avoid mistakes, but the best teachers show you how to fix mistakes that will inevitably happen. (And how to avoid them if possible, of course 😅)

    I am glad that you are feeling much better, Sachi! Three weeks being had to be horrible! Your kids are adorable. And, that little dancer is just too cute!!! Thanks for the tutorial. I bought five or six colors of stretch knit like the one you used for your little ones' hats. And, I have been at a loss as to how to use the fabric. I made a bean of sorts and it was not one of my best efforts. I really wanted to do something different from the typical beanie style. Still thinking about it.
    Have you made a top hat before? I made one in a short style about two years ago and now I can't remember how I accomplished it! I am struggling with how to measure the lines so that they come together and maintain the inverted lines of the hat. Any suggestions about how to accomplish the lines so they work would be much appreciated. Thanks much! And, continue feeing better!

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much, Rina! I’m feeling much better now :)
      I’ve made several top hats before using different techniques, it all depends on the design of the hat and material you’re using! I usually use single buckram and millinery wire, make a cylinder shape for the side crown (I don’t remember if I cut the buckram on bias here) with wires attached to the top and the bottom. and then wet the cylinder and stretch it between the wires to achieve the shape of the top hat crown. then cover the structure with bias cut fabric or stretchy fabric. But I’m not a pro hatter (I’ve only made hats for theatre), so not sure if that’s standard in the industry…

    • @rinawallace1962
      @rinawallace1962 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SachisStudio I really appreciate your response. I should have mentioned I am making soft scrunchable top hats in full size, as opposed to mini top hats. So buckram is not in this design. Have you made any soft top hats?

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      oh I see! I’m afraid I’d never made a soft scrunchable top hats… now I also would love to know how you’d made them before!

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used fleece and rib knit fabric, and I definitely redo and using rib knit for the stretch! I used iron on patches for mine❣️Otherwise I would sew through 2 layers of the fold-up after finishing the hat ☺️

      fleece one was in polyester fleece fabric. but I recommend using rib knit over fleece if you’re new to sewing!
