Fantastic to see Peter Zeihan on Real Vision. I've learned so much about how the world works from his presentations and books. He is shockingly accurate.
@@perro626 No one is always right but you can go back into older videos of the things he talks about whether he is at company presentations or whatnot and it will give you an idea of the big picture and he outlines the world in terms largely of demographics and the drivers that come from that. Zeihan really entering mainstream. Tbh he's been predicting the current situation for over a decade. He made some wrong prediction, true, but he was spot on on most projections.
Yeah, I'm just a retired Soldier and had his recent talk at the Warfighter Conference pop up in my feed (Modernizing Nations for a Changing Order). I really appreciate that he can verbalize the info without going all geek. It is very interesting information.
His predictions have generally been wrong in the scope of "when" things will happen, but not necessarily wrong in "what" things will happen and "why." So a couple years late on predicting Russia's invasion of Ukraine, bout a decade or so late on China's eventual collapse, the only thing he's suggested that hasn't yet materialized in any form is whether Alberta will secede from Canada and apply to join the US.
@@pyrioncelendil I still expect cacastorm in the Middle East. tanker wars, and largest migration in mankind to be worthy of the attention in my portfolio. Alberta, who cares, and Canada is getting kinda weird lately...
The loss of russian oil is a big problem for the EU. But this is where we see the failure of the EU to correctly evaluate US disengagement. There is huge oil and gas available in other parts of the world, Australia, Canada, etc. What it needed was capital available for investment, as these big multi billion dollar projects are expensive and a lot of the gas usually gets locked up in offtake agreements. Australian gas goes into asia. If the EU wanted it they needed to fund new fields and get in at the ground floor. By becoming more and more dependent on Russia they have naively walked into a major security vulnerability.
Excellent video! Maggie, excellent work, great questions and Interview. I love hearing what Peter has to say about the world, especially in these dark/frightening times.

She is a GREAT interviewer. Knows what to ask next and MORE important, when precisely to do that so it can support the flow and not grind with off topic interruptions.
Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. The market is never a loser in a twenty year cycle, but the 2000s decade scenario scares me and could really disrupt my retirement. When you are no longer accumulating but withdrawing its hard to be anything but cautious.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Not sure that everything plays out the way he lays out, but we are certainly headed in the direction he is pointing. His macro view agrees with many other educated people.
Coming back to this after 5 months. Oil is back to pre-Ukraine invasion prices and there doesn't seem to be the shortage that Peter was predicting. I hope he's wrong about the food shortages too.
Yes, potash reserves (et al other inputs) can satisfy the ag input demand for this planting season. But are we contemplating an impact on the next planting season? I worry for farmers and myself. Farmers are my proxy for survival.
I'm sure this guy knows more about this than I do, but the certainty that he talks with when staying that 'russia is going to now take the whole enchilada' makes me think it's time to take the other side. He talks with a lot of confidence, does anyone know his track record?
Yeah, there is a bizarre scattershot quality to his discussion. His predictions of inflation, food shortages and localized political instability aren’t that unique, but they seem solid. However, none of that matters if he is right that V Putin is planning to start WWIII. I mean seriously, if Russia invades NATO countries it would be game over all around, so the rest of the discussion becomes superfluous.
I get the sense that Peter is not getting any real sleep these past weeks. Its prime time for him that's for sure, I just hope he schedules some Margaritaville time soon
There are few people who has the gift of being able to consume such a large amount of data from so many sources, make solid rational conclusions from them, and present it in an lively and easy to understand way to lay people
Here we are, March 2023, and so many of his confident predictions have just not materialized. Nordstream was blown up and flow stopped totally. The war did not end after 6 months. We did not have a global food crisis in the 4th quarter, nor did the world go into recession. But I do enjoy listening to Mr Zeihen - he is a good talker and very entertaining.
There was a bumper harvest last year so the food shortage didn’t materialize. He along with almost all geopolitical analysts were wrong about how badly the Russians would perform
I think Peter sensationalizes things to help his book sales. However he does provide interesting leads which we can fact check ourselves. The provision in the 2015 oil export legislation is interesting. In an emergency, it allows the President to ban or limit US oil exports for up to one year. That would ruffle a few feathers.....
I was ‘calmly’, albeit significantly concerned with the geopolitical affairs up to the point ‘before’ listening to this interview… After listening to the bucket-full of bullet points (pun intended) presented ~Holy F#%K!..is all that presently comes to mind!

Maggie at 3:35 exemplifies the typical American thinking. Difficult interview for her but the reality is that other nations and peoples have aspirations and goals and concerns. They also have competing notions and models of how to order societies, economies and the world. The secular, liberal 'West' certainly doesn't have a monopoly on that but they refuse to see it.

Some investors look to their investments as a source of income while others use it as a means to grow or preserve their wealth.
For new investors, getting started can feel overwhelming. Risks loom large, and complicated, unfamiliar financial jargon can be intimidating.
