Helping My Wife Tackle a Double Black She's Avoided For Years!

- Hailey tackles a new technical descent called LBC. It's a double black diamond trail at Sentiers Du Moulin full of chunky rocks and due to its double black rating has been avoiding. For some context before we met, Hailey was not risk averse. She'd hit big bike park drops and most of the A lines on a trail. However, that resulted in multiple broken bones including a shattered ankle requiring extensive surgery. That injury lead to a long rehabilitation, additional surgeries, and more rehabilitation to regain most of her mobility. It also affected her confidence on the bike. These days she's a far more skilled and calculated rider, but sometimes needs a little encouragement to unlock her full potential.

Remember the video you did with POV footage that alternated between you and Hailey… with hardcore music for you, and chill music for Hailey? That was one of the most entertaining videos I’ve ever watched. It’s probably a ton of editing, but if you do that again I wouldn’t complain. ;) I love that you ride so much with your lady! Hailie did better than I would have. I'm getting too old for the risks, and it seems that going slow is harder than keeping your speed up and floating over stuff.
Wait, it's bigger in video than in real life? aha Hailey did a great job, it's a hard one to learn at a slower speed, I feel this one cruise much easier with a constant speed compared to the LB2

It's so awesome that you both are always out riding together. Also it looks like Haileys handlebars are to wide.
1:04 Whistler labels trails "high-speed jump trail" but only on the trail entrance signs. It would be much better if they put that on the map. After having a bad time on Heart Of Darkness, I avoided anything higher on the freeride progression chart not knowing that trails like Una Moss and Midgard were way more up my alley.

I don’t know why but for me, I find LB2 easier than LB1. Maybe higher consequence if you crash but it’s easier to find some flow vs LB1. Viking is one of my favorite double-black at SDM
Both have their moments. LBC 2 has that first rock roll, and then there's a pretty nasty rock chute to right hand turn that from my recollection was harder than anything on LBC 1. Both are fantastic trails. I've only ever ridden viking once last season and I didn't record it.
Categorizing trails by the type is so important now. It is distinctly different types of riding and I only do jump trails when I want a chill way down the mountain.
Agreed. I usually want a medley when i got to a bike park, and sometimes its really challenging to know what you are in for based off trail ratings alone. I appreciate places that take the extra effort to make things easier to understand.

I had cushcore, but the rim tape got damaged and there was a slow leak.
