I loved reading Inferno and watching Tom's videos for each canto, that definitely helps. It was a great experience! I also read The Iliad for the first time not long ago, the Fagles translation. I enjoyed it much more than expected, also watched videos about each Book on the channel MoAn Inc. :) I think Emily Wilson's translation is already out (the hardback at least). Haven't got to The Odyssey, Aeneid and Ovid yet... ;)
I enjoyed hearing about your reading plans. I haven't read any ancient literature (of course!) but over the last year or so I have been reading about the Greek myths because although I had heard the names, I was confused by some as in Latin and Greek they have different names. When I have read a bit more I may tackle the The Odyssey and The Iliad. Currently I am reading Tom Holland's Dynasty: The Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar because I would like to read a bit more ancient literature, but want to put it in perspective by knowing (if only a very little of) the history of the day. What terrifying times to live in!
You've got a tremendous set of epics on your hands. Enjoy! Fagles is my favorite translator of Homer. The Dante book cover looks great. Which translation is that one?
Check out the “Literature and History” podcast for ancient literature. There hasn’t been a new episode for a while but the backlist is impressive. It’s very well done.
oh most definitely! Here's the link: www.bookloft.com/ It's a place you can get lost in: a bookstore maze or labyrinth. My small problem was we were on our way to our cabin, and didn't have that much time, and it does involve lots of narrow staircases and I was just feeling a bit wobbly on that day. But it's a great store. And just down the road is a great sandwich place called Katzinger's. Have fun!! 🙂

You've bumped Dante back up my TBR 😅
