Jerry was a guitarists guitarist!! Sooooo versatile!! A great among greats!! Descanse en paz senor Garcia. Los Lobos are legends in their own right!! Jerry and Cesar take take long solos and not get lost!!
coyote023 I think Jerry was not one , at the time , there to up stage anyone. Watch around the 9:20-10-20 mark where the singer waves his hand toward Jerry and Jerry goes off for a bit. He’s just having a blast. You always knew when Jerry was doing ok when he just nodded his head up and down a few times It’s not even his guitar. Watch at the end. He just put it down and left. God Bless all of em.
Wow !!!! Great find !!! I saw the Dead a lot 77-81 and then less years after and I saw Los Lobos many times but this is incredible video find and Jerry totally on fire!
What a great tribute to Ritchie!! Jerry and Carlos were teens when this song hit the charts. The guys in Los Lobos probably weren't even born. Rock and roll will NEVER die!! ✌
Los Lobos. While I have always loved their music, I fear that too many don't realize the Virtuoso skill they have in their ranks. This video is quite the find! Thanks for posting.
what a treat to find this! just love Jerry's "popping fresh" riffs added to the already great Los Lobos songs. I like the contrast of different styles of the three, Cesar, David & Jerry, i'm off to find more Jerry with Los Lobos, this is great stuff, thanks for sharing this!
I lived in Greenbrae at the time and read about this in the paper. This happened less than 2 miles from my house and I missed it. Grrrr. 380 Via La Cumbre
Know that hill and road well, live in Fairfax now. Lived down the peninsula back then (Keystone Palo Alto was my stomping grounds). Made a few New George's gigs in that era and more later on in the 90's. Regret to miss Carl Perkins at NG in about 86. Great burst of joyful emotive playing by Garcia here! Dude was badass!
Awsome video and even cooler when i saw the pic i was like i know this guy! Picked me up for the Berkeley shows with Pm phlow Whoooooooo lol thanks again had a blast
Garcia would have sounded great on an es-335 into a fender amp-just redundant with Bob Were playing a similar rig in the dead - I personally love 1969 Live Dead Sg guitar Jerry
Fresh out the coma. This night obviously meant a ton to Jerry. Next thing ya know, Jerry was singin' La Bamba with the Dead. Then Los Lobos came out on Summer Tour with us.
Are you kidding me? Garcia, Los Lobos and Santana all in the same room? If you were there you might have considered ending your concert experiences then and there.
Dave's voice must have been out, Cesar sings La Bamba, no one noticed cuz the Lobo are so badass. Miss you Jerry. Carlito should of stayed on the stage too.
fun Lobos fact: Cesar sang La Bamba before the movie deal...Dave's voice is more similar to Valens' voice, which is why Dave sang the title track in the film :D
So sweet..Playin carlos's guitar...A lot lighter strings than he was use to i bet..also wierd how jerry didnt pick up on and follow the big hints of the jam they were throwing at him
+Todd Coye This was the first time he played in public since the coma he was not ready to go up and play. He was just there hanging out and Carlos kinda helped Jerry make up his mind
+TriniMendo-Humboldt Thanks for that comment...I kinda suspected that he was getting his feet wet here...I was at the 1st Dead Show back, believe it was 12/15/86...it was emotional..
You can say that again....and you could tell he was visibly moved, literally...he was moving, rocking and rolling more than any other appearance that I ever saw him, I think.
cool, jerry sounds like he uses heavey strings. i heard once stevie ray vaughn used 13's for his hi E sting. wow.... btw, what stings did jerry use. any idea?
Don’t get me started. My hope for the “Grateful Dead” Final Tour 2023 is Lobos/ D&C. Way more appropriate than Phish. Sorry, phish peeps. Los Lobos is GD people. Our E LA bothers and sisters🇲🇽! This is CA roots moment. Also, maybe David Lindley as opener. Am not wrong. Not sorry. 171 shows since 1976. We know what works. LOS LOBOS!🌹🎶
Jerry was a fan of LOS LOBOS and LOS LOBOS were super honored and humbled. The fact Jerry liked them
Mexicans jamming like bros
They were Jerry's favorite band. 😃
Jerry was a guitarists guitarist!! Sooooo versatile!! A great among greats!! Descanse en paz senor Garcia. Los Lobos are legends in their own right!! Jerry and Cesar take take long solos and not get lost!!
With all that talent up on that tiny little stage and you would be hard pressed to find a single ego.

Even borrowing someone else's guitar Jerry still sounds like Jerry.
As they say, Tone is in the fingers!
Wow !!!! Great find !!!
I saw the Dead a lot 77-81 and then less years after and I saw Los Lobos many times but this is incredible video find and Jerry totally on fire!
Thanks Steve. Great for those of us trying to steal Jerry's licks, and the historical significance is enormous. What terrific guys are Los Lobos.
What a great tribute to Ritchie!! Jerry and Carlos were teens when this song hit the charts. The guys in Los Lobos probably weren't even born. Rock and roll will NEVER die!! ✌

jerry sucked though he was not shall we say on.
Saw Los Lobos way back when. They have always flown under the radar but those who know, know they are masters of the craft...
Jerry went there just to watch. He wasn't even supposed to be playing yet. That's why he didn't bring a guitar with him. He wasn't fully back yet.
So magical and so bittersweet. God Bless Garcia!
what a treat to find this! just love Jerry's "popping fresh" riffs added to the already great Los Lobos songs. I like the contrast of different styles of the three, Cesar, David & Jerry, i'm off to find more Jerry with Los Lobos, this is great stuff, thanks for sharing this!
Awesome!that song was a favorite of mine at about age 3 or 4. Still holds a special place in my heart. 👍😊✌️🙏🌞❤️
This must be why Jerry played La Bomba with the Dead a few times after this.
9-18-87 has a nice Good Lovin' > La Bamba > Good Lovin' sammy!
It's great to see and hear him playing the hollow body
Thank You so much for posting this! Yet another gem!!!
Mr. Valens had a big old smile on his angelic face that night!!
I've not seen this before, great stuff! Thank you for posting.
Goose bumps decades later...🤙
Why have only 233 people liked this? Seriously. Come on people.

This made my Sunday. Love from Buffalo!
He's back! First live solo since the coma!! I was tickled pink! Thank you!
Yes G-O-D!! Jerry back in STYLE and FORM!! Halle-lu-YAH!! Keep on Garcia...-BABY!!
Jerry looks really healthy and happy in this footage
Awsome video and even cooler when i saw the pic i was like i know this guy! Picked me up for the Berkeley shows with Pm phlow
Whoooooooo lol thanks again had a blast
Fu Schnickens wonderboy?
MAGICAL
so cool. That was a great summer! I was 16.
Thank you Carlos.
Wow, just wow
Never seen Jerry play a guitar other than his regulars.
Armand Del Duca look up the other jerr/w lobos- he plays a gold top LP!!! CRAsZY!!
@@TheTerrapinchris Jerry played a gold top with P 90's back in the day. Not a lot I don't think.
Garcia would have sounded great on an es-335 into a fender amp-just redundant with Bob Were playing a similar rig in the dead - I personally love 1969 Live Dead Sg guitar Jerry

great find!!
Tried & true, Rest In Peace Jerry Garcia.
Holy Shiite! Jerry on a 335!!??
Are you kidding me? Garcia, Los Lobos and Santana all in the same room? If you were there you might have considered ending your concert experiences then and there.
Unbelievable,it'll never happen again. Regards
Can you upload a video of La BAMBA with Caesar Rosas singing it please!
He’s a badass guitarrist
Jerry with a 335. killer.
This is sweet classic Rock
Sounds like a Don't Let Go jam...
GIves 9/18/87 and those other shows around that time a different perspective.
i turn into pure electricity when this plays
Awesome!!!!
incomprehensible drivel !
nice find
shhweet!😮
Oh! What fun!
Dave's voice must have been out, Cesar sings La Bamba, no one noticed cuz the Lobo are so badass. Miss you Jerry. Carlito should of stayed on the stage too.

@@JABFELAI wonder how Cesar felt about that, since David now has been leading this song since ‘87.
santana hands his guitar to garcia at a local pub.....priceless :)
look who comes up from the crowd to join los lobos!
Jerry said that he had to "learn to play guitar again' after the coma. It seems like he did a pretty good job, eh??
This was so cool where did you find this?
So cool
they seem to know what they are doing.
Yes they do. If they keep working at it they just might get signed! 🤪
Gibson ES-335?
Is this jam sounds like song Searching for Madge from Then Play on LP by Fleetwood Mac
This was his warmup show after the coma
Is this the show after Jerry was relearning guitar after the diabetic coma ?
💃
Tear it up Jerry
Whose guitar is Garcia playing? Kinda cool, huh? Just sittin' catchin'Cesar and Dave and the rest of the Lobos and who should come walking out,
yo no soy mairiero, ¡Soy Capitain!
250 people seen this wake up
the jam is from fleet mac album then play on called searching for madge
I think his brain turned to Jazz in that coma!!
Hey ahh man you got a pick? O yeah hear you go.
this close to heven
Who's guitar is Jerry playing?
Probably David Hidalgo's Gibson 335?
😁💀🌹
Who’s guitar is Jerry playing it is definitely not the guitar he was playing with the dead in that time era
So sweet..Playin carlos's guitar...A lot lighter strings than he was use to i bet..also wierd how jerry didnt pick up on and follow the big hints of the jam they were throwing at him

wygakyl Heavy touch of grey at that 1st show back. Not a dry eye in the house,at least my 2.Peace

1. You missed the Grateful Dead's last show -- by about 28 years. Sorry. Also, Lobos is busy this summer
before I watch this I am gonna bet Garcia cannot remember WTF he is playing for 5 mintues !
You sound like a fucking twat
Can’t remember what he’s playing but continues to play in key and flow with the band. Get the fuck outta here with all that
Jerry still sounds like a Jerry even not on his rig
