    Works great for 2 years. Then the sealant in the mounting pucks gets hard a brittle and breaks seal from the roof shingle granules/surface and starts leaking. Depending on your climate you may get a little longer. 4 - 6 years later you're done.

      One thing I'm learning - solar is a long term investment - you should invest in solar when you turn ( old enough to buy a house) and put it in while young.. it will make you money in 20 years.

    Wow, the entire product line was designed to be installer friendly with limited hardware. Fully integrated into a focused design to speed installation while limiting waste. This design creates a temple in the mind of each worker that speeds up the project while also speeding up the learning and teaching curve of every project. Thus the company can better predict the installation time of each installation. In your case, three to four days depending on the weather, the one factor that the company can not control. Not bad! In other words, a fully integrated package that includes both hardware and labor. Cool!

    FYI a company called Zep designed the mounts. Solarcity bought Zep Tesla baile... bought solarcity. Best part about Zep is it’s half the penetrations of a rail system. Half the chance for leaks.

    It is so cool to see so many on your roof. I was wondering about the life of the asphalt shingles. Obviously those not exposed will last much longer than the ones in the open. Under the panels they should last a long time

    • @TeslaInventory

      the roof still has a lot of life left, that is one of the reasons we went with panels.

      Solar companies try to sell you on that but no roofer would replace only shingles around the solar array. Would be a terrible decision.

    These destroy your roof when not monitored by a professional roofer during installation and create leaks. Be sure you have a roofer there to ensure the mounts are on correctly. They created leaks on my roof from the wrong installation and Tesla does not honor their work. Guess they bank on it not raining in California enough to catch on. Thanks for the description of how these are to attach to the roof!

      Tesla purchased Solar City over the last few years and is now a vertically integrated company in the renewable sector. A typical solar system, no the here, averages around 15 to 20k for roughly a 5 to 7kw production system. modules, inverter, and size are the major factors. a Solar Roof, in production, is roughly twice that much (depending on roof size, type, and system required) than a regular system, perspective. The Solar Roof is like buying a new roof with built in solar.

    • @Djkudos14
      @Djkudos14 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't. We have a completely different system that is bolted under the tile and utilizes a spanner bar or "rail type" mounting. it sits just as far from the roof as the pucks do in this video. about 3 to 4 inches from the surface of the tiles.

  • @jayabraham4377

    Another solar company (vivent) told me these pucks are not good since the spacing doesn’t guarantee the lag bolt will go into a rafter and it may just go into the roof sheathing and leak over time? Thoughts on this? Or are they just trying to get my business?

      on the contrary, these are not out dated panels. The panels installed on his roof are some of the highest wattage panels on the market offered. Solar roof is connected in a similar matter in a "daisy chain" fashion. lastly, his panels are made in the U.S. by Tesla.

  • @markscholes7525
    @markscholes7525 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't advice using this fastener on a shingle roof. You need a product that has flashing that goes at least six inches underneath the row of shingles above. The issue with that fastener is it relies on sealant alone which will FAIL after years of contraction and expansion plus movement from the wind. That same movement will also turn that disc into the perfect cookie cutter and it will slowly cut clean through the shingle over time. Really poor and short sighted from Tesla.
