    I'm glad to see that your pigs have their babies in a comfy spot instead of a cramped cage. Pigs are very intelligent and beautiful, giving them affection and a good long life is the least we can do. Free range pork is the best!

    I raised thousands of pigs and they are all good grazers if you put them out on something to graze. Pasture is just a supplement to a balanced feed and protein mix such as corn and bean meal.

    I chose to b a vegan due in part to the fact that i kept getting sick eating meat. For me personally, i dont get sick anymore; i feel better; look better; havent aged really i get u look late 20's early 30"s. But i dont tell people who eat meat not to. All i say is find out the truth behind factory farming of meat and milk etc. God bless u for ur farmimg methods. I pray one day that if u choose meat that all farms are set up like your place. What a healthier world this would be. being a humane farmer should b more common place. thank u

    I think it is intetesting how pigs are the only farm animal that has a litter offspring. Cows, sheep, goats have inly one baby at a time

    It's great to see pigs allowed to be pigs--at least for part of their life. Most see nothing but cement and iron, and the sows are separated from their litter by iron bars. Left alone, a sow will remain attached to its children for life, fixing their bedding every night. And one good, randy, productive boar is all you need. It's interesting to hear about the individual temperaments of different sows, which squares with the discoveries of many pig lovers. It's also gratifying to see pigs that are able to retain their great tails.

    I think all pigs are roughly the same for gestation periods. general rule of thumb is 3 months 3 weeks 3 days. officially I think it is 114-116 days. up here in Minnesota our butcher weight we try to get around 250 but some may get to 275-300

    I used to raise hogs. I had to have stalls so the mothers could not flop down for about 10 days to 2 weeks. Yes it is a lot more work but it saved me a lot of pigs being smothered or crushed.

    Hi there, you really have a great video. Can i ask about your feeds? Do you self-mix it? Or you buy commercial feeds? If you do mix it yourself, what's the ratio of the ingredients?

    Your videos are great i have learned alot. I have a small farm and am trying to get it going on a shoestring budget. I have 2 hogs that are 10 - 12 mos old. I had them on pasture all last year but i'm finding it increasingly difficult to keep them in "their" pasture. The gilt no longer respects the electric fence and often the boar follows her. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @nick4leader
      @nick4leader 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gator Creek Farm i would say number 1 is more juice. you shouldn't use a little garden fencer, you need one that will knock them down then they will know not to touch it again

    did u make vermi composting out of your livestock manure? because i'm quite sure that you can collect massive amount of manure in the number of livestock you have which is very profitable.

    How is the Tamworth meat? I have heard it is a redder meat. Does it still have a distinctive pork flavor? I've leaned toward duroc because of this, but I have never had opportunity to taste tamworth

      +Rickey Electrci fence probably Desormeaux very effective for pigs and entertaining for humans for ashort period of time until the pigs have all been shocked after contact has been made you can remove the fence and not be able to drive the pigs across the place where the fence was.

    I'm not a vegan, but I feel it would be a mark of a decent human being to let an accomplished retired sow go free instead of to the slaughter house as if they're not emotionally and neurologically capable mammals and undeserving of a single ounce of humane consideration.

    • @joshualynn9721
      @joshualynn9721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can just release pigs in the wild. Wild hogs destroy agricultural land is the main reason. The second reason is farmers have to maximize profit margins on every pig in order to achieve a sustainable business. Keeping every sow until death would bankrupt these farms.

      @william Beattie , thanks for taking the time to reply. I am in Nigeria. I have a fish farm here, and I also do little poultry. But I am interested in starting a pig farm, I would be so glad to get some advice and info from you... @truckseeker helix, get it into your head that it is not all Nigerians that takes and steal people's money, we have a lot of hard working people here and I am proud to be one of them, all I ask for is info about how yo start a pig farm and not even from you, but you chooses to judge me cos of your believe about we Nigerians, I pray God forgive you.
