A.K. Glazunov, a brilliant orchestrator, was N.Rimsky-Korsakov's pupil. Like his teacher & mentor did many years earlier in his "Fantasia on russian themes",op.33 for solo violin & orchestra, Glazunov used in the finale (7:23"),of his "Scène dansante" the same "allegro animato" dance, based on the russian folk-tune," Come little Mashenka have fun and dance". P.I. Tchaikovsky had already used it once more in the 1st act,2nd scene of his opera "Pikovaya dama",(1890), as "Ну-ка светик Машенка,ты потешь, попляши", sung by a mezzo-soprano!
Thanks. I like Glazunov, and am always glad to hear something of his that I don't know. It was nice that the score had a French explanation of the action.
