Really? I live in Minnesota, and we went through this 2 years ago and no media coverage. The wildfires from Manitoba back in 2021 was so bad you could use a chainsaw to cut through the air.
The wildfires started a month ago in Alberta , 2 weeks ago in Nova Scotia and now in Quebec . Alberta is responsible for climate change in CAnada with the intense pollution from fossil fuels , oil and gas . The conservative government of Alberta does not care about the nature, wild life and climate change ... they are cowboys from the far west using rifle guns for hunting ...
Remember when New Yorkers mocked and laughed at Florida and Texas during their disasters? Remember all the posts of New Yorkers saying the people there deserve it?
Seems odd to me that apparently noone questions the start of these fires. They don't start themselves. Doesn't anyone think all of this is more than just a little unusual? How do you even count 200 forest fires?
85% of Canadian wild fires start by lightning. Although Canada is massive, most lands are not developed. The are lush forests. Currently 6th week of drought after record heat.
lightning didnt start these. when these fires started the skies were clear and it was early for for. there is apparently some speculation alot of them were set on purpose i could see the climate nuts doing this. season.
Thanks but this is caused by Alberta fossil fuels oil and gas . Alberta does not care about nature and wildlife . 40 % of greenhouse gas in Canada is from Alberta ... The province had 2 weeks of intense wildfires 3 weeks ago and the new prime minister does not care
Reminds me of days gone by, in the 1950s & 60s before the EPA we had many air alert days, although not as bad as yesterday and today. Mask up and stay in the air conditioning as much as possible. Working out side mask up and take frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids.
@@stacyn. I'm prone to smoke. I choke myself at a slight whiff of cigarette smoke. I wore three masks to the point I couldn't breathe properly. By blocking most air and struggling to inhale as little as possible, I could still whiff the smoke. If this goes on it's going to destroy my life.
I live in SW Pennsylvania and I was wondering why we were having such heavy summer haze. Then my son told me about the fires. Now it makes sense. It's slowly getting worse.

A paper mask isn’t going to do much of anything…if it did firefighters would use them. What you need is a respirator mask, not those flimsy paper ones.
Never forget people were beaten, arrested, stoned with wal mart products, shamed, etc all because they knew better and wouldn’t virtue signal with an improperly worn face diaper…

What needs to be taken into account considering these dire circumstances is the severe disturbance, not to say total disruption of the global atmospheric jet streams, causing highly abnormal circular wind patterns keeping the highly polluted air trapped within local and "closed" air circulation loops. This phenomenon is caused by anomalies in difference between arctic and equatorial tempatures that normally generate and regulate an overall west-to-east oriented planetary air circulation system. Generally spoken, we not even near grasping both the enormity and the impact of the situation we find ourselves in, while - metaphorically speaking - we're behaving like a family watching television in the living room with the house on fire.
As a person who got through the Carr fire in California I can tell you this will not clear up in 72 hours or by Saturday They don't know this they cannot predict this. Be prepared this could be for several weeks
Lol Lan it's life. All the fires last year were north and barely made it to border. Even we had lightning with no rain. I'm sorry for our neighbors in NS. They are trapped surrounded by water.
It's amazing we have squadrons of airplanes to be able to bomb the crap out of a country, but DON'T have squadrons of water bombers for these huge fires....
This will only be normal in areas where prescribed burns are not instituted. These fires are the result of climate maniacs refusing to conduct controlled burns.
@@mandywatson. I agree. Fire fighters should let it burn. If not this year, the next or the next. Set Mother Nature lose to do what she does. If homes are in the way, they never belonged.
@@Proj_Doomsday You might be misunderstanding my comment. The entire purpose of a prescribed burn is forest management & wildfire SUPPRESSION. A prescribed burn is the opposite of "setting mother nature loose." It prevents catastrophic wildfires.
If it helps any, what I have done when stuck in massively bad wildfire smoke clouds is a combination of Blueair Classic HEPA filters with SmokeStop(tm) carbon filters and Cambridge N99 masks. It really works, but does cost a pretty penny or two if you can find it. I originally got these filters for allergy issues with poor air quality where I lived aggravating things, but yeah when it is super smokey out, these filters make a huge difference. While wearing those pandemic masks is likely better than nothing, these other filters and masks really do a good job of cleaning up the air that you breath. It is important to understand that there are two different kinds of things you are trying to filter out, small particulate matter and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Really all of the bigger stuff like ashes has probably settled out of the air by the time it gets to you and this is more of what a pandemic mask is focused on. In other words basically useless for what is blowing over you from far away. The problem is the very small and very damaging small particulate matter stays suspended in the air for a long time, which primarily slips through everything except for true HEPA grade filters. Also certain damaging gases stay in the air, which even HEPA filters can't catch. The HEPA side is more focused on the small particulate matter while the VOC filter is more focused on the gaseous matter. You really have to have both for these wildfire situations.
FIRST QUESTION: Why is the air ORANGE? That is NOT NATURAL, it is a chemical reaction. Please someone look into this, or we consp theorists will be right again, that this is being done on purpose for nefarious reasons.
As a Californian, my heart goes out to those having to deal with the wildfire smoke. You've likely already heard - keep your exposure to the bare minimum. The particulates can really do a number on your lungs, etc. Take care.
I'm really scared. Everyone tells me I am overreacting, but this stuff kills. I already have second hand smoking plus am extremely vulnerable to coughing and forcing myself to as little air as possible. Today ten minutes is unbearable and as soon as I stepped home I started crying. If there comes a day I have to block my nose and mouth for over 20 minutes, I might faint on the ground outside.
I commuted to work in the DC metro area. You could smell the smoke underground in the stations, my eyes started burning. By the time I got to work I felt short of breath and feverish. I immediately told my boss I was going home
Amazing how the WH can send all that help to Canada but couldn't help the poor citizens in Ohio from the chemical spill from the train derailment. What a great leader this country has
We do have billions if them. I have been to where a forest fire has gone through, it's actually quite remarkable how quickly things start to grow again. Within days if there is moisture in the ground, the most brilliant green shoots grow out of the backend ground.
I live in upstate NY; which is closer to Canada than NYC. No smoke. No smell. The most that can be said is that it's overcast out. If you look at the map of the smoke; you can see that it completely avoids the northeast section of NY. For now it looks like we're getting lucky locally.
Air quality is over 400 in the southern tier of NY. My poor 16 year old dog can't even go outside without choking :( she's got an air purifier and plenty of pee pads to use. Lets hope for some rain since we were already in drought...
These wildfires on both sides of the border is beginning to feel like the "new normal". In Vancouver, Canada, we've suffered a few summers in recent years where the air quality got bad from distant fires both from north and south of the border. How to combat it ?
Just think of how us Canadians feel in the thick of it. It not good for either side of the border. Just a few weeks ago here in Alberta we were going through the same thing and the smoke from our fires was felt all the way to the UK.

I live in BC, and we’re prone to wildfires every year, but it’s unbelievably bad this year. As someone who has experience with wildfire smoke: drink lots of water, do not exercise outdoors, avoid outdoors in general and try to wear masks if you can. Stay safe!
I live nowhere near as bad as it is in the city, the smoke only got to me in NY today. I stepped outside for a few seconds and the sky was darkened at 2pm. Breathing for a second was rough. I can't imagine what it's like to breathe there.
I live in NC and have asthma which has been much worse this week. I have severe allergies to 90 % of things outside and when those things are in bloom, or on fire and burning it affects me even more. Because I am allergic to virtually every type of tree I can't enjoy a wood fire in a fireplace, wood stove or fire pit so the smoke and particulate matter in the air is making it a million times worse for my daughter, who also has asthma and allergies, and I. I hope and pray it dissipates soon especially for those who are closer to the fires and are dealing with a much heavier amount than we are. If we lived further north I would be doing multiple breathing treatments daily and probably need an oxygen mask and tank to survive this. Grateful that my medications and inhalers are working for me.
As a Canadian who has suffered from wildfire smoke for the past 10 years consecutively... im sorry to everyone having to deal with the smoke in America... its horrible and can be intolerable at times! Be safe and where a mask if needed!

There's no way to determine length of time with this event. They're wildfires. They're still burning. There could be more.
Sad thing man.
to be fair, NY never had great air quality to begin with.

Soon this will be normal. Having clean air would be abnormal.
Canada has about the same population as California and is the 2nd biggest country in the world so its not going to be easy to contain these fires
N99 and N95 masks are practically purpose built to filter most smoke particles.
FIRST QUESTION: Why is the air ORANGE? That is NOT NATURAL, it is a chemical reaction. Please someone look into this, or we consp theorists will be right again, that this is being done on purpose for nefarious reasons.
Being a Californian and having lived through this for months during 2020… it sucks. Made my asthma something awful… stay indoors as much as you can.
So much for electric cars to save the planet from pollution & global warming 😂 😆
Is this smoke worse than smoking cigarettes?
Obviously not
As a Californian, my heart goes out to those having to deal with the wildfire smoke.
Hmm...maybe Canada should have thought about upcoming dry conditions instead of hasseling hard working truckers.
I commuted to work in the DC metro area. You could smell the smoke underground in the stations, my eyes started burning. By the time I got to work I felt short of breath and feverish. I immediately told my boss I was going home

I feel bad for those thousands of trees burning down :(
We do have billions if them. I have been to where a forest fire has gone through, it's actually quite remarkable how quickly things start to grow again. Within days if there is moisture in the ground, the most brilliant green shoots grow out of the backend ground.
Tesla trees don't cause any pollution. Switch to electric trees!
That's what nature needs
